Please note the one star is NOT for the food, but for the restaurant management, their policies and overall restaurant experience. We were a group of 12 for Sunday lunch buffet. The food itself was not bad, nothing too extra-ordinary... just what you would expect from an Indian buffet place. While at it, a few things about the food: 1. As compared to other places around in the area, it did have lesser choices on the buffet, especially for a weekend buffet 2. Mini-Medu vadas were undercooked 3. There were no separate containers to serve the Sambar 4. Fried Rotis (So-called bhaturas) were cold, even though on a "hot" tava Restaurant: 1. Good Decor 2. Very very small tables, with four on a table... theres hardly any room to move around 3. Overall cramped space Management/Staff - Rude management. The wait staff is Ok, they usually dont have a clue :( Policies - this is where we were really taken aback - this was a buffet and the restaurant ended up charging us 18% gratuity on our meal. When we tried to understand why that was, the first lady that talked to us was very rude and just wouldnt reason. When the manager came around, we asked him... how can you add gratuity for a buffet where we served ourselves, his answer was we gave you water. He literally said that... Damn! He did not care either and we just did not want to argue anymore so paid the check and left. For sure, you lost at least 5 families today... :).

I have been to this restaurant 4 times (twice for lunch buffet and twice for dinner) so my review is not based on just one visit which could go either way. Ambience is decent but the food is not. This restaurant pitches itself as a more upscale but the food does not do justice. It is mediocre and pricey for the taste (or the lack there of) , the portion size for ala carte dinner orders is small for the price charged. I also noticed that the food is a bit stale maybe because they do not have a high turnover. Service is OK , I would give four stars but I go to a restaurant for good tasting food which has a higher weightage so ended up giving two. I know a reader of this review may question why I went four times if the food is not good. First time I went for a lunch buffet to check out this new restaurant in my area, second time time went for dinner to see if it was better than buffet. Third and fourth time were Groupon gifts from friends. No, I will never go again on my own dime. Some of the Indian restaurants in Herndon, Reston etc. are much better in terms of variety of items on offer, taste, quality and pricing.

Not Recommended AT ALL. Food is Average. EXTREMELY OVERPRICTED. Their prices are similar to RASIKA-DC & Tandoor-Tysons.....for the food & ambiance of typical shopping center Indian/Chinese restaurants. This is the only restaurant I have ever been that charges the same price for Lamb /Shrimp/SALMON....AND...."POTATO GRAVY"/OKRA/EGGPLANT. For ordering 6 main-courses we only got 2 plates of rice. NO LIQUOR. For 5-people, we paid over $170 for a Very Average Tasting Food AND CASUAL AMBIANCE.....With GROUPON!! Only one guy from Wait staff is extremely friendly.....only good thing about our visit. Will not repeat...NOT RECOMMENDED!!

My boyfriend & I have only been here twice - once for lunch and once for dinner with a Groupon. We were impressed with the food both times. Lunch buffet was beyond average, everything we tasted was delicious. The outside look of the restaurant doesnt do it justice, because the inside looks magical, its as if you entered a different place than what you were expecting. Prices were also very decent, even for dinner. I would come every week if I craved Indian food that often. We highly recommend this place and hope that it stays for good and doesnt close like many other places did that used to be in this spot.

Really enjoyed 1947 Indian. We had the chicken tikka apperizer, the paneer makhani and the eggplant dish. We also has two orders of the garlic Naan. The paneer makhani was the best Ive ever had. The Naan was perfect and had plenty of garlic. The wait staff was very attentive and made sure we had plenty of water which I always appreciate. They have a buffet every day including the weekends for lunch. I will certainly be back to try more of their delicious food.

Went to 1947 tonight with my fiance and everything was amazing! We had a mango lassi, garlic naan, the Kashmir Ke Kofte, and the chicken tikka masala. Everything was cooked and spiced perfectly. The staff was very friendly and attentive (never an empty water glass was had). Finally, the decor is gorgeous and comfortable. We cant wait to try the Sunday buffet and I hope this place sticks around!

Bad food and service. Not at all authentic Indian food. Seems they serve frozen curries by just heating it and add ingredients.i visited this place 1 month back, I ordered paneer butter masala and It was not at all cooked. Paneer pieces were hard not having spices inside it. Rice were also not properly cooked. Nan was nice. Prices are not good and most of dishes are Overpriced.

There are so few god Indian restaurants in the DC area, it is always good to find one with good food and good service. Had the buffet for lunch on a Saturday, everything was excellent, and the owner was very considerate about our stroller. Also ordered the fried fish appetizer, which my wife could not stop eating.

Highly priced food None of the food taste like Indian flavor. Manager is not helpful. Dont buy group on for this restaurant. You will be forced to buy at least $32 excluding tax and tips. I am not sure where this figure comes ($32 against $30 group on) if you buy less, it will not be honored.

Pleasantly surprised! The food was good and GREAT service. I had spilled my beer and they cleaned it up and brought me a new one with no issue. Lots of food and it was very tasty! I would say price wise $$ as the two of us with 2 beers and an appetizer was $53 -- not too bad for the NOVA area.

I would have given a zero if possible. The okra dish we ordered was extremely grainy. The chicken tikka was nothing special and the chicken seemed to be frozen or extremely old as they were not at all tender. This place is expensive and over rated. An entire evening wasted

Decent place, not great service. We went here with family and they all seemed in a rush. The food didnt really taste great or Indian. Paneer was not soft, lot of tomato in gravy.. I wont recommend this place. The only good part was a guy playing Violin which was excellent.

Great decor, good service, authentic Indian taste. They have lots of items in the Buffet in comparison to other Indian Restaurant. Jaw dropping food with awesome customer service. Our server was amazing. Will definitely be back thank you 1947 for making me feel like home.

Good meal. Chicken Tikka Masala was awesome. Delhi Nihari was average but still better than many places out there. Easy delivery. $0 Delivery Charge vs. Another nearby Indian Restaurant charging $15. Overall, I do see myself reordering in the future.
