PLEASE go read some YELP reviews before ordering from here... at least for takeout. The delivery guy lied and told me he was "downstairs", I work near City Hall so he couldnt find parking right in front of the building and I ended up waiting a good 10 minutes for him to find parking and walk over to me to bring me my food. Didnt help that I was actually having an extremely busy day, so I could have used those 10 minutes. I wish he would have just told me when he was ACTUALLY downstairs. The food was ridiculously bland for indian cuisine - no heat and no flavor. I ordered veggie samosas and saag paneer (what theyre supposed to be known for) and both were extremely dissapointing. The only good piece of food I got was the naan. I will say they have large portions, I got about 3 meals out of the serving size -- but the second 2 times I ate the dish I had to add my own spices and sauces to make it better.

We enjoyed this restaurant last night. Unlike eating at a buffet-style Indian restaurant, the pace is deliberately unhurried. They take time to prepare the food and they dont hurry you to pay. The place is dimly-lit to evoke a romantic, "blue-moon" atmosphere with a luxuriant chandelier. We ordered their house specialty, lamb dumpakht, which was very nicely flavored and quite refined. The meats of the mixed Tandoori grill were tender and well-spiced. The Tandoori grilled salmon was perfect. I had the naan with coconut and raisins for the first time and liked it. My friend ordered mixed curry vegetables which was okay. If you want a slow meal in a romantic atmosphere, this is a good place. Just dont look at the big TV screen and enjoy the food at this BYOB. The price is very reasonable and the staff friendly. Ill go back again. Bring a flash light to read the menu if you are no longer a teenager.

“ok indian food... they need to serve their speciality (Bengali food)” We got to know the owner is Bengali and thought they would offer Bengali cuisines in the menu, but NO. we got disappointed. The server was least bothered in serving us. we ordered Dal tadka/ bhindi/ Kadai paneer and biryani. Except for biryani which was nothing but a mix of chicken curry and rice, all were good in taste. We asked for malai kabab in starters but he said it will take 15-20 minutes, so we cancelled that. we talked ourselves that he could have said, 10 minutes and tried hard for it, but he flagged his hand in the starting only. and guess what, our food came after 35 minutes. I even appreciated the food but the server did not even acknowledge my compliment. and yes service was slow too despite there were hardly 5-6 customers. Overall I would say it was ok..!!

We were studying at a coffee shop near by and decided we wanted indian food. it was a nice day outside so we ordered it only set for later that evening, and we were going to take it to go and go to a park or something to sit outside, enjoy the weather, and eat. on our way to the restaurant it started pouring- throwing our plans out the window. We walked in and there are 2 couples in the entire restaurant. We are soaking wet, and we ask if we can eat in the restaurant because of our plans being ruined- they said no. they said they dont do that- despite the whole restaurant being almost empty and the fact that we are paying customers. on top of that, well my chana masala was pretty good, but the mutter paneer we ordered was tasteless.

This is a difficult review for me. I have ordered here several times on grubhub, and the food has always been great. My favorite local Indian joint....but then...a few months ago I got take out, and subsequently got the worst food poisoning of my life! I was sick for 4 days at least, and I mean horribly sick...I lost >10 lbs during the ordeal, ruined my weekend attending a relatives wedding, etc. I am certain I got sick from this order, it may have been the samosa, but who knows? Probably was a fluke, but as far as Im concerned a restaurant only has to get me puking and crapping my pants once before I stop patronizing them. Plenty of other good options on south street.

I went there last night. I have no idea why this place is often empty. I have eaten here at least 7 times and had a great experience every time. The management is super friendly and the food is made to order for every dish. They give me free dessert every night. Last night after my meal the manager asked if I wanted a tour of the kitchen to see how they make the naan and chicken. Gave me more free food. Such friendly people who offer a great setting and product. A secret of Philly.

Great restaurant, friendly staff, tasty, authentic food with fresh spices (you immediately taste the difference) and nice environment. I prefer to eat in rather than their convenient delivery. The coconut naan (I forgot the name) is excellent.. as is the tandoori chicken. The only drawback is that the fragrant food smells can stick to your clothing. Overall I really like this restaurant and their sister restaurant on 17th and Callowhill St.

Indian restaurant, how I love you. Best things about the Indian Restaurant: * Chicken Tikka Masala and they will make it spicyyyyyy * Their garlic naan is fresh and out of this world * Its BYOB * 10% off your bill if you pay with cash * Free desert comes with your bill * They are very quick if you order takeout * White table cloths makes this place feel fancier (and pricier) than it is * Bollywood movies playing during dinner

This place has good food and very friendly staff. I will say some of the dishes are overpriced given the portion compared to competitors in the area. Regarding atmosphere, Its a well kept and dimly let which is a plus. The downside is its super quiet and small. So if youre looking for an intimate dining experience, its hard to have considering everyone in the place can hear your entire conversation.

Didnt like the food at all. We ordered chicken shagoti, chicken reshmi kebab and chana masala. Chicken wasnt cooked at all. We gave back chana masala bcz it had too much cardamom in it. Only good thing about this restaurant was the oder of the restroom handwash. I observed that only non Indians visit this place. To all those people - you should consider visiting other Indian cuisine restaurant

Delicious food, excellent service and well-maintained restaurant. I often do pick-up and always am greeted with a smile. When I do come in for a sit down meal, they recognize me and ask me if Id like my usual order. Food is delicious and not too oily or buttery, and be adjusted accordingly for richness and spice. Excellent date or special occasion dining spot, or even a take-out treat.

Ive patronized this business a dozen times and the food was excellent each and every time. Since day one, I have been greeted by someone while entering. Ive dined in & also have gotten take-out. The food was still amazing. Things to try: Chicken or anythig Tikka Masala, Lamb Karahi, Lamb or Vegetable Simosa. Always flavorful, cant go wrong with the above. And its BYOB :-)

We went to Center City and was in the mood for some Indian food so we went to the Indian Restaurant on South Street. The waiters were very kind to us! The food was absolutely delicious! We ordered lamb chops, the chicken tikka masala and the lamb dampakht. Everything was amazing and my family and I cant wait to go again!
