My family and I have been vacationing in Myrtle Beach annually for about 18 years and always make the River City Cafe our first dinner choice. While we used to look forward to the food and service, it has definitely taken a turn for the worst in the past few years. On our most recent visit, our waiter took about 10 minutes just to get our drink order and when he did finally take our food order, it took almost an hour for it to come out. Prior to our food being served, he came out and told us that his manager wanted him to apologize to all the tables for the large party that was holding up the kitchen - but that he didnt dare tell his manager that that party was us. As a waitress, I understand that large parties (we had 13) can be intimidating, but that shouldnt be a problem. This is a restaurant - you should be equipped for large parties. I was also offended by the waiters comment - why would you say that to us? When our food finally arrived (I had ordered a grilled chicken sandwich), he handed me my plate and said, "Heres your grilled chicken - thats what was holding up the kitchen for so long." Im sorry, but I could make a piece of grilled chicken on my George Foreman grill and throw it on a bun in about 7 minutes so Im not sure how that managed to take the kitchen an hour to prepare. Again, I was annoyed by the waiters comment, not to mention that they didnt even add the cheese, mushrooms, or onions on the sandwich that I asked for. I wasnt going to send it back though - didnt want to give the kitchen a heart attack and have to wait another hour. While the food here is good, it is not good enough to account for the awful service. Sorry to say that I think theyve lost a loyal customer.

Took the whole family and everyone left upset and sick. As we were eating a roach crawls across the table and and another roach crawls across my fathers lap. He smashes the roach on his beige shorts. We all jumped up from the table to keep the roaches away. So if there are roaches crawling on the tables then what is in the kitchen. We told the manager and he said this happens here but still required us to pay. DO NOT EAT HERE...NASTY NASTY NASTY. YOU WILL GET SICK.

The server was nice but we had to wait a while for our food and it wasnt busy. We both ordered burgers thinking theyd be good since most of the menu was burgers... the shrimp in my surf and turf burger was soaked in grease so I took it off. The burger itself was over done and had no flavor. At least the sweet potato fries were good but over priced for the amount received. They left the onions completely off the second burger...We will not be back.

This was a fantastic restaurant. So many different concoctions for burgers you would never even think of, and other seafood options like Grouper fingers make this place a great stop for a quick bite or a family dinner. The atmosphere is lively and energetic with signatures and license plates, signed by hundreds, forming the walls. Overall, a quaint little eatery with food to match.

Not so much a bad experience as a totally bland one. I ordered the grouper fingers, which were really good but cost $11.99 for 4 of them, and I paid 99 cents extra for two tasteless onion rings. BF ordered a grouper sandwich and he wasnt too impressed either. The service was alright and the atmosphere (especially the outside) was cute and fun, but the food was way overpriced.

I have only eaten there once so can not comment on the overall menu. But I can comment on what I had . The Darlington, a half pound of fried bologna with cheese and mustard on two thick pieces of Texas Toast. It was wonderful definitely will be going back again. Atmosphere is kind of sea worn run down, but this is by design. Wait staff friendly, prices reasonable.

This place has amazing burgers and onion rings! Best around, very convenient to the Garden City/Surfside area. There is one in Murrells Inlet that is good as well and I have never been to the one in Myrtle Beach. It has a combo of a family atmosphere and a bar and oceanside dining all in one. Very reasonable pricing, very friendly wait staff.

Dont let the 100-year-old building put you off. Seriously one of the best burgers Ive ever had. Juicy and flavorful! Hand-cut fries were perfect. Fresh, handmade food, excellent and cheerful service. I highly and cheerfully recommend. Note: burgers are normally cooked "medium", so if you want more, just ask.

Burgers are what this place is all about. The atmosphere is fun and very laid back. Nice to have good peanuts to crack and munch as youre waiting for your food. I like that you can get just the burger and dont have to pay for more fries than hubby and I can ever eat. Were very glad we stopped here!

Love the ambiance of the restaurant, the peanut shells on the floor, the license plates on the walls and the personal messages everywhere. The hamburgers are delicious with the menu having combinations you might not think of yourself. We visit this restaurant at least once when we are in the area.

Asked for a rare burger burger and got a well done one, not cool! The sweet potato fries were... meh! It was lunchtime and the place had no other customers in it. A waitress walked on the bench seats to clean something off of the wall. Our waitress was nice!

Its become our family tradition to eat here our first night at the beach each year. The kids, now older teenagers count on it. Food and service is always good. Four or five years in a row now. Great view right on the beach!

Great hole-in-the-wall burger joint. The server was attentive, the price was very affordable, and the burgers were fantastic. I will definitely be coming back in the future.

One of my favorite places to eat. The best burgers anywhere. We usually go twice during a one week trip. The friendliest staff is at the one in Murrells Inlet.
