Traditionally, when we go to visit my husbands mother in Wilmington we have always stopped at the Claymont Steak Shop on the way home to Philly because it was the best steak sandwich we ever had. Better than any we ever got in Phila. The last couple of times we went, in November, 2008, and then in February, 2009, it just wasnt nearly as good. At first we thought they might have been having an off night, but this time we could really tell the difference in the quality of the meat. Its a shame, now we dont have to drive all the way to Delaware to get the same mediocrity we can get at home. They also used to sell the meat alone so that you could make your own sandwiches at home, but not anymore. Too bad, another great place going down the tubes.

Many a football Sunday was made more pleasurable by getting subs and steaks at Claymont Steaks. It is family owned and they really have a neighborhood feel to the place. You can sit in and eat at the non-fancy seating or do what most people do and take the food home. I lived in PA so we would have to drive over the state line to buy these but thats fine because Delaware has no taxes for purchases on food. The prices were always the best in the area and the food tasted great. I heard the grille was purchased from an old sub shop in Philly that closed down but I am not 100% sure. All I know is; the steaks and subs were awesome and the Pizza is not bad either.

Im 35 and grew up in Claymont. Claymont steakshop was known as one of the best local eateries for a very long time. They used to have the best cheese steak around with a really good pizza, this is how they got their name and popularity. Unfortunately they changed owners a few years back and since then the quality has definitely taken a hit. The steak is now steakum quality and the pizzas are always undercooked and taste like raw dough. Its a shame cause I used to eat there all the time and now I can only occasionally eat a mini well done pizza from there.

They are 8 minutes from my house. My fault for just not picking up but opted for delivery bc of circumstances. Waited an hour and then decided to call. Arrived 20 minutes later. That was more than ridiculous. Ordered a chicken cheesesteak but received a regular cheesesteak. Literally had no flavor. The roll was soggy and meat was more out of the roll than in. I was bummed bc I was expecting big results considering they are named after their steaks. Maybe other food is better? Ill pass on another opportunity to order.

Claymont Steak Shops cheesesteaks are the best in Delaware. The prime rib meet is plentiful and tasty and the roll is a perfect match. The service is very friendly and the restaurant is spotless. Since I started working in Wilmington I make it a regular stop on my way home to PA where I live. Their Greek style pizza is the best white pizza Ive ever had and when you want to eat light their marinated chicken wraps are perfect. Thanks Claymont, youve got a life-long customer now!

Horrible service! Called in for delivery on a work break and they delivered the wrong order after an hour of waiting! Then the manager was unwilling to try and give the food for free and have the right order sent immediately. She also was trying to get the wrong sandwich back after we had to open it to determine if it was right! Never ordering here again and the food isnt even that good. If I were you I wouldnt go here, too many better places in the area!

onion ring are always soggy...cheese steaks are mediocre at best. delivery service is rediculous. I work and have stuff delivered they call first when on thier way if you don"t answer drivers don"t show up and 1 hr later your having to call back to find your food now that lunch is over. every time I call its 45 minutes to deliver. even if its just cheese steak and onion rings. Rediculous... won"t go back and won"t ask boss to ever order from there again.

On Saturday 5-1-10 I was leaving Philly and called to place an order. I was put on hold for more than 10 minutes. I called back and was told I was to be put on hold AGAIN! I had an errand to run on Philadelphia Pike. When going by the steak shop there were 2 cars out front and 3 in the parking lot THIS IS AT 2:30 IN THE AFTERNOON! I dont think the guy who answered the phone knew what he was doing. Out of principal I will never go there again.

It passes...barely...if service isnt at all important to you...and neither is the food. Meat on cheesesteak was very good. The roll was soggy and there was very little cheese. Table we sat at was dirty and nobody was wiping tables when we were there on a Sunday afternoon. Weve been here once before and loved our food then, but the cook was a little rude when we didnt hear our number called. There are much better places in Newark.

Best cheesesteak in Delaware! They use high quality meat, and put lots of it in their steaks. A small can feed two people, easy. A large is enough for two hearty eaters. Im afraid to order a jumbo. I have only two knocks I have here, and theyre minor: their Pizza is eh, and they use canned mushrooms. Id rather that Claymont Steak Shop just pull them off their menu, altogether.

Im used to Philly cheesestakes and the steaks at Claymont are close. The food (including the wings) is good and the menu has a lot of options. I also like that everything is made fresh when ordered and you can watch them make it. The only negative aspect of this place is that it takes a while to make the food. Otherwise, they do a huge business, especially before Eagles games.

Good cheesesteaks and great bang for the buck !! Ive been here twice and both times the cheesesteak I had was good. They have 3 sizes of hoagies/cheesesteaks (small, large and jumbo). Ive only have the small and thats plenty big enough for one person. They also have a good sized area where you can sit down and eat as opposed to just coming, getting your order and leaving.

Ive never had a bad meal here. Their cheese steaks are great as well as their pizzas, Strombolis. One of my favorites is their Greek salad. You get a huge portion and the feta cheese pieces are the size of dice. Their onion rings are really good too. They taste like a beer batter, cant recommend them enough. Everytime we have family visit they want to eat there.

They say its the best steak shop in Delaware, But I disagree concering the Philadelphia Pike location. You never get your food the way u ask for it.. Something is always missing.. Ill rather go to the 202 location now u will get a good meal Plus you can see your meal being made AND its what you asked for and how you request for it to be it will be.

You are guaranteed a GREATmeal! They are consistent with their good quality. You can always taste the freshness of their ingredients! All their portions are more than generous. Recently tried their wraps and it was a GOURMET experience! LOVED IT! And another great thing....everything is always kept so CLEAN! I give it an A++!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
