2/13/09 UPDATE = On Friday, the 13th (always my "lucky day" - For Real!), the owner of Salt Creek Cafe emailed me back. She was gracious, sorry for the mildly poor incident, and explained very well our misunderstanding of the behavior of their manager. Everyone has an "off day". This is all that I was looking for, and my wife and I are planning to come back to Salt Creek Cafe when they have Grilled Mahi Mahi Tacos available. I raised my rating to 4 stars, and not 5, only because I just about never give 5 stars to any restaurant. It might "go to their heads" (just kidding). 2/14/09 UPDATE = My wife and I went back for Valentines Day, because the Mahi Mahi Fish Tacos were available. While the owner was a little more generous with the fish portion, because of the misunderstanding that previously happened to us, we loved the Mahi Mahi. At the same price as the cod fish tacos, plus an outstanding, mild, garlic hot sauce, along with the guacamole & pico de gallo (my wife cant eat those last two things), black beans, and the vegetable of the day - snow peas, it was an excellent value at $10. We will come back to this "Mainly Locals" restaurant again. 2/13/09 (First Experience) = My wife gets migraine headaches from eating anything with tyramine. It is an amino acid in many things. Therefore, we dont eat out much, since most restraurants put MSG/tyramine in their food. This restaurant did not, so my wife ordered a cup of good butternut squash soup, and two, fairly small, grilled cod fish tacos for $10.00. When she saw that there was guacamole (has tyramine) on the fish tacos, she scraped it off. We prefer grilled vs. fried fish, so the great waiter, Jonathan, who previously said the kitchen OKd doing grilled vs. the usualy fried, served about 1 oz. or less of grilled cod fish which Jonathan said looks like a whole lot more when done fried. My wife compared her amount of cod fish for $10.00 to my "about 4 oz." of grilled salmon, she had the waiter exchange her grilled cod fish tacos for my order. When her grilled salmon sandwich was finally served (it wasnt that long, but I was done eating), she ate too fast, and was given such a hot piece of salmon that she burned her mouth on it. Steam was coming off of it! Anyway, the manager who did not introduce himself, came over and asked about our eating experience. We told him what happened, and said the truth. It was a series of circumstances (first, my wifes special dietary needs, no guacamole noted on menu, my wife burned her mouth, and the salmon fish sandwich was a much better value. So, when he saw that we had a $10 off coupon from my wife (breast cancer survivor) walking for a breast cancer charity in town, he just said something to the affect that my wife must know what it feels like to have breast cancer vs. someone just walking for charity. He didnt apologize for the "average" eating experience, as our great waiter did a number of times along with asking us to please come back and try Salt Creek Cafe again. Maybe the mgr. thought we were looking for something for free, as there are a lot of New Yorkers in the area who probably do that very thing. As for us, it would have been nice if the mgr. would have offered one free desert to share. But, we would have turned it down, since we are both watching calories, and were full from the good fish sandwich lunches. In fact, we would turn down anything for free that restaurant would offer us now. I met the owner on the way out (nice guy - talk to him if you should have any issues, and not the mgr!). But, the owner was talking with another customer, and I felt I should not bring our poor restaurant experience up in front of another customer. That said, I would recommend this restaurant (4 stars due to the bad value grilled cod fish tacos) to anyone who likes grilled salmon vs. fried cod fish, and my $10.00 grilled salmon sandwich was good tasting, while being a good value for the area. I just want the good restaurants in my town to get better.

Just left SWC after waiting for a an hour to receive service. When we arrived, approached hostess and asked for the wait time. Response was 15 minutes. Evening was very crowded but willing to wait. Indicated to hostess that bar area or dining area was our preferences for seating. Ordered drinks from bar and watched four couples seated before us. One couple had reservations but other three did not. Of the three, one appeared to be friend and when they sat down in bar area were served immediately. We finally sat down in bar area without assistance of hostess or anyone else. Sat there for 30 minutes without service. We have gone to this establishment about 12 times over the last 6 months and now realize that if you are not a regular, you are put at the bottom of the food chain. My guests will never go there again. As we left, the manager didnt show any concern.

Reasonable prices, casual atmosphere, and friendly service. I seldom eat fried food, but I just cant get over how good the fried green tomatoes, okra, mushroom and zucchini appetizer was... especially the okra and zucchini. I sampled the fried fish special, that is served on Fridays, and was blown away by the delicate, sweet batter. I had the grilled mahi tacos and was not disappointed. I may have been too quick in turning down dessert, as I found myself wondering if I should have tried the peanut butter pie with a cup of coffee before leaving. Having eaten out in the Myrtle Beach area nightly for about a week, i can say that the food here was quite good for the money.

Seems as if they got their act together. After staying away because of multiple disappointments, we decide to give it another try. We were pleasantly surprised. Good everyday go-to place with daily specials. I had the BLT salad which had fresh crisp greens, topped with breaded chicken breast, that was not dried out, and an excellent ranch dressing. My wife had potato skins with cheddar cheese and not the pimento cheese listed on the menu. Somewhat of a potato skins expert, she gave it the thumbs up. Friendly competent service but can be slow at times. Good wine selection and nice bar area. They need to keep the kitchen open until 10:00 on weekends.

I have eaten here for the past two years and have always had a pleasant experience...until now; the appetizer of calamari was great. The six dinners we had were average or worst. I had the Shrimp Scampi, zero flavor. It was like a bowl of pasta with some overcooked shrimp. I had to ask for parmesan cheese just to eat it. My mother had blackened Mahi-Mahi and said it was dry and no taste. She took it home and said the next day that it had a strong fish odor (fish not fresh) and gave it to the birds. The restaurant was not busy at the time we were served.

we have eaten here for the past three years and have always had a pleasant experience...until now. tonight, the food was very inconsistent. our appetizer of calamari was great. later, two pizza entrees were great. crab cakes were soggy and over seasoned. salmon looked like frozen reheated slab with fake grill marks and little taste. sides of carrots appeared frozen and thawed giving a rubbery texture. fried shrimp were very tasty. servers very polite but restaurant seemed a little understaffed tonight. hit or miss. good luck!
