SMU/Mockingbird - SHOCKINGLY HORRIBLE, nasty takeout "surprise" $26 (plus tip, for 2) for takeout should & does buy MUCH better food than this YUCKY cardboard "egg rolls" (tasted & tossed) PUTRID excuse for "egg drop soup" (poured down the toilet) EXCEPTIONALLY BAD "chicken w broccoli" - rubbery water chestnuts, squishy broccoli, dainty portion size (very little chicken or broccoli, lots of other "filler" & LOTS of gummy "snowballs" of rice) - ate what was there because it was late and we were hungry and nothing else in house to eat... force feeding Sweet attractive woman carefully packed my takeout order w a lovely smile. HOWEVER... once home, found the food to be inexcusably horrible. If it had been in-restaurant dining, couldve complained right then, but discovering food horrors only after hauling food home and starting to try to eat it... grrrr. BUMMER. Food THIS bad just cannot be an accident or aberration."Egg Rolls" that tasted like sweetened dried slightly damp CARDBOARD. Some kind of prefrozen junk. Convenience stores sell better egg rolls than this.BUT WORSE was the entirely PUTRID egg drop soup. It was a brownish color and tasted "burnt" but worse... no further taste explanation bc no one willing to sample more than a drop ...Our entree was Chicken w Broccoli - a mainstay, right? Although not as horrible as the "appetizers" (that seriously were NOT appetizing), this tasted like it had been prefrozen (all but the broccoli). Both this and the egg rolls had hot spots and cold spots, as if - uneven temp...cant imagine what cooking method produced this mess. The broccoli was limp and squishy... The rice was plopped into the container in two very "perfect" little "snow balls." And the water chestnuts were rubbery and chewy... I didnt know a water chestnut COULD be rubbery and chewy. The only thing that was decent was a separate order of plain steamed broccoli.. Ive been eating Chinese food most of my life, and sometimes 4 or 5 times a week. I wont say this is the worst Ive ever eaten - but only because some of the gooey, sitting out too long food at china buffet restaurants can be pretty awful too. But at least there, you dont have the take-out problem of getting the ugly surprise only after getting home. I Lovers Egg Roll fondly from all the years (except the last couple, when its quality tanked) it was at the original Inwood Village location. Never expected it to be gourmet cuisine, but - back THEN - it was fresh food, good quality ingredients, well-prepared. What I was handed tonight was anything but that. This place reminds me a lot more of the food served at the Chinese takeout place that used to be in this SMU strip location... "Chopstix"? something like that - also awful) btw - Contrary to reviews Id seen on google, the portion sizes - and in particular meat serving size, in this dinner order were pretty stingy - UNLESS you count the gummy rice - you get LOTS of that. I WILL say that the young woman who answered the phone when I called about this order was very polite and seemed sincerely apologetic, stating that their intention is to serve good food. (Just a "were sorry" goes a long way with me, since its increasingly rare,) She also did ask what they could do, offering a "store credit"; but since I paid in cash (stupid again) and cannot imagine going back there to eat again, I am just out of luck. Still, it felt better to at least get an apology. And writing the review made me feel a little better too - always helps to vent. But who needs for dinner to be such a PITB that you need to call & vent & take all the time required to write a review?

We live on campus, and when it snowed, they were the only people that would deliver, which is amazing, since we had no other way of getting food until the next day. They are a life saver! And will really go the extra mile. I have no idea what these other people could possibly take issue with. Ive never been inside because again, I only order them for deliver, but they have very decent prices (again, college kid, so this is something i reaally pay attention to) for EXCELLENT food. Some of the best Chinese food Ive gotten, though admittedly im not from Dallas, but a much more rural area where I could see the food not being as up to snuff. Whatever these people are doing, they are doing it right as far as im concerned. I ordered the korean chicken, extra spicy, and they definitely did that for me! I could really taste that they went out of their way to make it hot for me. My girlfriend got the sesame chicken and when I tried it I was so surprised, because it wasnt soggy and too sweet like some asian food, but amazing and very tasty. I will definitely be ordering from here in the future anytime I want a chinese food fix. The portions were great too, and the rice fluffy and tasty. I have no idea why it doesnt have more stars.

I have ordered here for the past three years and never had an issue but tonight the food that was delivered was sloppy and out of the container, on top of that I was missing half of my order. The woman who took the order immediately put me on the phone with the non english speaking manager who only offered to resend what I had already paid fir but was jissing from the delivery. They stated they could comp me on the next time I called and I said no, you need to rectify the current order. I will never order from here again and I advise otyera to seek alternative measures for their watered down chinese fix! AS A CONSUMER DO NOT ORDER FROM LOVERS EGGROLL!!!!

I ordered from here, and basically it tasted like a lower quality and cheaper version of Chef House. The Moo Shi Chicken looked "charred" and the only conclusion I can come too is that the grill was dirty and it came off on the stir fry. Gross. Anyways, a few hours after eating my stomach was violently upset, and I know it was because of either the poor food from here, or the improper way it was prepared, because it happened to my friend who ate it as well with me. I think the food is poor, the kitchen is dirty, and it is definitely over priced for what it is. Call Chef House instead.

We ordered a papaya salad and tom yum soup to go, and brought them home. Both my wife and I thought they were pretty bad. The papaya salad had the seeds in it, and was simply sugar, papaya, carrot, and peanuts. Usually that dish is supposed to have some fish sauce, lime, etc... not just sugar for the sauce. The tom yum tasted like it was made from an instant mix. I think they need to just focus on Chinese cuisine. Their attempt to branch out is not working that well.
