Dear Hawthorne Inn, I bought a Groupon, as we like to try new places. By doing so, it gets us out of our comfort zone, not to mention the discount gives us the incentive. First, I really hate it when places who put out the offer, then post restrictions on their front door. In your case, the 20% gratuity on the full amount, and only one discount per table. It makes a person feel uncomfortable presenting the coupon, when it is you who solicited me by signing up for this promotion. You should place all your restrictions in the fine print area. I understand some people may not tip on the full amount, but that should be the risk you take putting out the coupon. After all, it is NO longer a gratuity if you mandate it!! When you demand an automatic tip of 20%, the service should be held to that standard. When a server knows that he automatically receives it, what is the incentive to perform? I did see our server by the kitchen with her back leaning on the wall texting right after she dropped off our check saying "Ill leave this here". Second, you need to implement the old saying in the restaurant industry," If you have time to lean, you have time to clean". Please, go take a look at the things I am about to mention. In the booths- check out the accumulation of gunk, crumbs, etc. between the wall and the naugahyde table cover. This is neglect build up. While there, look at the brass light covers and lamps. Now, look under the booth on the floor. Our booth was littered with napkins and previous debris from the diners before. This makes me wonder about the food preparation area! The artificial tree at the front entrance also needs a bath- check out the dust. Maybe instead of the hostess and the other employee standing at the podium chatting, they could dust it. In all actuality, the whole place needs a good cleaning and maybe some updating. Lastly, the food. We ordered a BLT Salad to share. My husband had the Cod Sandwich and I the Steak Sandwich. We asked for Ranch dressing on the side. We got it, but the salad also came pre-dressed with the dressing that you use?? I ordered my steak sandwich Med./ Well. By no means should the bun be so saturated with blood that the bun is all mushy. It was like the steak finished cooking under a heat lamp and the blood ran to the bun. *shudder* I removed the bun. Where was that 20% service to come back to the table and check satisfaction? In closing, I found the Groupon not a good deal in this instance, considering the gas and time to drive out to your place. Kind of a shame...

Been going here for about 10 years now. Huge fan. Its in the middle of nowhere and the place is crushing it! The atmosphere, the lighting, the service, the cocktails, the salads, the desserts, the entrées, the apps... All silly good. The decor is a bit dated, with the vinyl table cloths and the carpeted dining rooms, just ignore that. The rest more than makes up for it. The coconut shrimp with the mango chutney: unreal. The steaks always deliver. The pastas are super good. The lasagna is the best youll ever have. The seafood stuffed Mahi is one of the best dishes anywhere in STL. The bread pudding is ridiculous. Pro tip: be sure to consider/ask about the specials when they have them. Some serious gems can be found in ordering one of the specials. Enjoy

Living in St. Louis, this certainly is a destination restaurant and one well worth the effort. As though the drive through the beauty of rolling hills and vistas spanning picturesque valleys was not reason enough to drive to Labadie, when you arrive at The Hawthorne Inn, you know you have arrived! The service is friendly and prompt and the food is excellent. There is none better any where. I would walk the entire distance from St. Louis to Labadie just to dine on The Hawthorne Inns Bruschetta as an appetizer, finishing with the most delicious Coconut Cream Pie on the planet with any entree you choose in between a true culinary delight. Enjoy the drive to heaven on Earth at The Hawthorne Inn. The angels and saints should be dining on such ambrosia!

Our server experience was very nice. One of the ladies was in training so we had two waiting on us. The decor is very, very dated. The tables would look and feel a lot better without the old plastic table cloths. They were kind of grungy. Aside from the decor, the food was excellent for the most part. The spinach and artichoke dip was one of the best Ive ever had. I enjoyed the homemade chips, but I found what appeared to be two eyelashes on the chips. Im not referring to the seasoning either. I made due because other than that it was delicious. I enjoyed a pizza. Another dish we enjoyed at the table was the grilled salmon which was said to be to die for. A few hiccups along the way, but it was still a place that I would refer people to dine in.

I have been eating at the Hawthorne Inn when Im at Purina Farms for dog events, for at least ten years. The food has always been excellent. The Hawthorne House salad is to die for....a meal in its self. My wife is a steak eater, and considers the Hawthornes steaks as good as any she gets anywhere. I send out of town people who I meet at dog events at Purina there all the time. The only complaint I have ever had from anyone I sent there, was one woman who said the road to it was too crooked! Labadie is a remote spot in the hills....which just adds to the charm! Im from Missouri, you have to show me, and the folks at the Hawthorne show me every time I go there!

We had the Spinach Artichoke Dip, which came with great chips (fried tortilla triangles), and it was fantastic. My fiance got a steak special stuffed with crab and shrimp, he said it says great, but had less of a seafood taste than he expected. I got Laurens filet with herbed butter. The steaks were amazing. Perfectly charred and the herbed butter was fantastic. The decor was dated, but the restaurant was clean. The quality of the food is what youd expect from a more expensive restaurant. We went there because of the Groupon deal, but well definitely be going back.

Did not care much for our servers attitude but enjoyed the food (generous portions). The Pomegranate Margarita ordered, came with a salty rim even though a sugar rim was described in the menu. They exchanged it quickly but seemed to have poured the same drink into a new glass with sugar rim cause now the entire drink was salty. The server asked if we wanted blue cheese crumbles on the salad but did not mention an upcharge of $2.00 for this (bad sales behavior). Overall left with mixed feelings about this place and wont be back.
