Today I purchased the Pompano fish and asked the cook not to score the fish. He said if he didnt, it would take longer to cook. I said that would be fine. When I got the fish I noticed that the juice that ran from it was pinkish in color, but I thought, "I know this fish cant be under cooked." Once I opened the fish in its thickest part, I could clearly see that the bone area was pinkish and that the fish was not cooked done. So I took it back and the cook argued back and forth with me that it was done. Now I have been cooking and eating fish most of my life, enough to know when it is or isnt done and I told the cook it was clear in his eyes as the cook as well as mine that the fish was RAW. So he took it back and cooked me another one. Upon receiving the second fish, I went straight to the thickest part....not only did the veins have blood in them, but this second fish was more pink in the bone area than the first one, AND HE HAD SCORED IT. I was done!.. I told the waitress to please just give me my money back. Well, we threw the receipt in the trash, but I remembered how much the fish had cost and the price they charge to cook it. She comes back with short change.... At first I was going to let it go, to keep the peace, but then I decided to speak with the manager. I was told that he was on the phone. I waited for the manager until I got tired of standing there and just left. We have been here several times and have enjoyed our visits, but this is the last time I will go there. UNDERCOOKED FISH IS NOT SAFE FOR ANYONE TO EAT and for me to be handed that twice is a not some place I desire to take my family for our favorite meal, which is seafood. And since I am posting, I saw one of the guys drop a condiment on the floor and put it back on the folks order, after half looking to see if anyone was watching him, instead of getting a new one. I was going to ask for the manager and let him know what I had seen, but my daughter asked me to just let it go....well now they know....that is if they read this post and if they dont, now you know.

Update below: We have been buying shrimp from Safe Harbor since BEFORE they had a dedicated retail outlet. Somewhere around 15 years or more. Recently they have begun selling farm raised shrimp and presenting them as Atlantic Ocean and/or Mayport shrimp. We just bought our LAST shrimp ever from Safe Harbor. We spoke with management and got a refund on the one pound of cleaned jumbo shrimp we did not cook. We did not cook them because we sampled the 2 pounds we had cooked because they had the tell-tale translucent look of farm raised shrimp. Sure enough they also had the rubbery mouth feel of farm-raised and lacked the rich buttery taste of ocean shrimp. BUYER BEWARE A previous reviewer said that he had observed the trucks pulling up filled with shrimp. The actual Mayport shrimp come into the establishment from shrimp boats that dock out back!! The FARM RAISED SHRIMP are delivered via truck. Update 1/20/17 Just finished a pound of Florida Stone Crab claws purchased here today. They must have been frozen for weeks if not months, for the meat totally shredded when trying to remove it from the shell AND also stuck to the shells. Eating three claws took the work of picking out two blue crabs. That indicates that they have been frozen for way too long. Additionally there is no more cryovacked Alaska wild salmon. There are other sources for "line caught fish" in the area. I will be buying from them in the future.

A great place to eat dinner. Myself, my husband and two kids went for dinner after a few hours at the beach. It is very casual. When you walk in there is a seafood counter where you can get fresh fish to take home. At the back counter, you can order dinner. The area is all open air space. Watching the kitchen crew while waiting in line was awesome. We decided to order different items so that we could sample a wide variety. The kids got basics, chicken strips and shrimp baskets with fries and cole slaw. My husband got us two different baskets. One with scallops and a crab cake and one with snapper and clam strips. Both baskets were served with hush puppies, fries and cole slaw. My husband describes the cole slaw as "FIRE". We both loved it. The hush puppies were wonderful as well. When it comes to the seafood/fish, the shrimp, scallops and clam strips were delightful. My husband really enjoyed the snapper. Neither one of us were too fond of the crab cake (probably because I make my own version that is really hard to top). The portions sizes are good. They dont just load you up on fries. We shared a lot of the meats and still came home with a to go box. They are currently open on Friday and Saturday until 8 pm. We got there about 7:20 and had plenty of time to eat on the outdoor patio watching the sun set while the big boats floated by. It was a very enjoyable experience.

Safe Harbor is Bubba Gumps Mecca. Located right outside the fairy to Amelia Island, this place is where all the shrimp comes in off the shrimp boats. When you walk in you notice cases and cases of fresh fish on ice, buckets of shrimp of all sizes, and a little counter in the corner where you can get food. This is a fish place, go up and grab a basket of fried fish or shrimp and it will blow your mind. A bite of their fired grouper is all you need to have a out of body experience. If you want to try something a little lighter then the French fries (why would you?) get the blistered green beans. After you polish off a few cold brews and a basket of hot salty fish, swing around and get your whole snapper for dinner that night. This place rocks, its a bit out of the way, but anyone who tells you to go to singletons seafood shack, or any other place in the area is kidding themselves and wasting your time. This is where you go for great seafood, end of story.

Wont be returning. Went with my husbands 80yr old grandparents that have poor hearing. As they were ordering I went to grab a table. The only available table was on the patio. As I went to sit, Max the manager came over to tell me I couldnt save a table, because everyone likes to sit outside and its first come first serve. I did not care that it was outside, it was the only table available and I did not want to keep the grandparents standing around. So I went back to the line only to find now there are no tables. My husband asked Max where we could now sit. He pushed two small tables together near the very loud front counter. Overall it was a poor experience. Max tried to buy back our approval with disgusting key lime pie and chocolate mousse. This was my second and last time giving this place a chance. I do not recommend, there are numerous options for average shrimp baskets available around beaches area.
