Ive tried all of them (except for the one on Maryland Avenue). I was a long time patron of Nirvana. Tonight I tried Maharaja after 2 (Indian) customers recommended it to me when I asked them during a shopping trip. I was extremely pleased. Contrary to some negative reviews, I will say that my experience was excellent! I was welcomed in a very friendly way. From the time I ordered until I finished my meal, the service was attentive and excellent! I had the chicken tikka masala, which was wonderful! I also had a Samosa for an appetizer, which was yummy and the pastry flaky and buttery. The garlic Naan was fresh, garnished with cilantro and had a soft, garlicy taste. I also had the vegetable pulao because I think white rice is boring and Id rather have the Basmati rice with raisins and nuts. It was a great accompaniment to the very tender and flavorful Chicken Tikka Masala. My iced tea and water was refilled quickly. My meal was brought within several minutes. I had the best Indian meal Ive had in probably 5 years and will definitely return. Both Raj, and his mother, the owner encouraged me to try the lunch buffet which offers a wide selection. Their dinner menu is extensive and has something for everyone, but what I had is my favorite and I was very happy with their cooking. What a great find! Thanks to Raj and his mother! Lisa (see you again soon)

On Oct 10 2014 three of us we went to this restaurant . We were very hungry and we have ordered 3 chicken biryani and 1 goat curry. After tasting a spoon of biryani, guess what ! It was not a biryani at all. Probably some previous day left over chicken curry was mixed with rice and served as biryani. The chicken in the biryani was half cooked, we could feel the undercooked chicken while chewing. The Goat curry was ok , However we were not sure when this was cooked, it was hot on the top and cold under. "WE DID NOT EAT SUCH A WORST BIRYANI IN OUR ENTIRE LIFE ". Service : WORST , The manager and the staff does not know How to Talk, and How to serve. The funny part is , When we complained about the biryani to the manager he was smiling . Shocked to see such kind of irrational behavior from the manager. Price : Very Costly, For the same price, there are better places out there which can provide better food. Literally i had to vomit after returning to home. Guys please think "not twice" but 1000 times before you guys go to this restaurant. WORST WORST . These stupid nuts will soon shut down their restaurant if they continue this kind of WORST and STINKY food . Better to SKIP this GARBAGE restaurant. Soon we are planning to lodge a complaint regarding their stinky food and irrational behavior to the respected authority of Delaware.

I have to wonder about the nay-sayers...are they familiar with REAL Indian cooking? Maybe not. I am, having traveled to India twice (staying in homes, not hotels), having an Indian son-in-law and a daughter who lived in India, speaks and teaches Hindi and Urdu at a university, etc. Maharaja does not have fabulous decor. It does not have a wait staff that dotes on customers, interrupting conversations. What it DOES have is very authentic Northern Indian cooking and very reasonable prices. The Tandoori is excellent, and most of the dishes are spiced just right (for Indians, at least). My picky daughter and son-in-law enjoyed the food here. I eat here regularly. So do a lot of Indians.

We have tried every Indian restaurant in the area and this is by far the BEST place around. To find anything comparable you would have to go to Philadelphia. The restaurant is deceiving since its set in a strip mall and it doesnt look like much inside but it is clean and the staff is extremely hospitable-ask for Raj to wait on you and you wont believe there are any reviews about poor service. We eat here at least once every 2 weeks but usually get everything to go since we have three unruly kids (who by the way will fight over the naan and chicken makhani). I work at a nearby bank and my co-workers and I love to go to the buffet when they have it.

This is a nice place near my house for a quick meal when I am in the mood for Indian food. The buffet is limited, but does offer at least one chicken, goat, and vegetarian dish. The tables are clean. The atmosphere is standard for a restuarant. The host/waitstaff are helpful when you arrive, then dissappear. Ive often wanted more water with no way of telling anyone. For the limited food selection and service, I feel they charge more than they should (I have gotten more for less at other Indian restuarants). Why do I go back? Because it is close to my house, not crowded, and I just want to eat and go.

Eh. Food wasnt bad, but there is better Indian to be had elsewhere near by. The service was acceptable for us, but I saw people come in and wait to be seated who were never helped. They stood around with no help in sight for at least 5 minutes before walking out. The restaurant wasnt busy, the entire staff was just missing. There was a young man who worked there who I think was meant to be helping people but he seemed totally clueless. Very spacy with seemingly no idea what was going on or how to do his job. He was nice, just wandering around in lala land.

Attitude of the manager working here is so bad. We booked a party hall and guy over here charged us 11 adults extra count.we were trying to explain him about the number of persons attended the party with clear list in the paper (which has family member count) but he didnt listen at all and he is saying i can not believe my count...He was so adamant and he cheated us $165 extra...we said we wouldnt come any more for his act.he said he has no issues...such a worst place we have went to. our total party mood was spoiled

Im really surprised by the good ratings for this place. me and my husband adore indian food and were greatly disappointed by our take out we got a few weeks ago. Perhaps we just got an off night but we ordered the lamb korma and it was tough as leather and tasted more like goat meat than lamb. the servings were much smaller than we were used to from other restaurants. From all the reviews i would want to give this place a second chance.. but our first experience was too bad to let me go back for more.

Very unprofessional. Not attentive....we were out of water for the entire time and nobody showed up for an hour - having no other customers doesnt mean you can forget about who exists. We were a group of 8 people where they underserved the food, much less than the usual amount and biriyani didnt come with raita - when we asked that you did serve raita before they just denied! Seriously!!! and even more weird, they wanted to offer raita when we were done with our food - lol. I am done with this place

FLASH FLASH FLASH............................WORST EVER CUSTOMER SERVICE , EXPENSIVE and Below Avergae Quality food :( :( Worst ever Indian Restaurent i have ever seen. I had been here for Buffet. The food was average North Indian Style, Less options. Not worth for the money. Interestingly they charged Graduity fee for Buffet when there was no service delivered. If we have any questions they start yelling at customers. Not worth for your money for the food and service.
