Warning: THE RESTAURANT IS NOT ALLERGY FRIENDLY. I have a shellfish and mollusk allergy. I have been to sushi and hibachi restaurants before and they were always very accommodating. Kenji has been by far, the worst experience Ive had. First I tried to get the sushi and sashimi combo. The server said they couldnt substitute out the non-fish items. Said the fish was too expensive. I could order individual pieces but couldnt get the combo. Not even an option to pay more for the combo. Then I asked about the hibachi. They said they would cook my food on one portion of the grill and the shellfish on another part. However, they would use the same utensils to cook my food as the shellfish. If you have an allergy, youll know that wont work even a little. So I had no choice but to pass on the hibachi as well. Finally I ordered a bento box. The bento boxes come with miso soup, salad, your entree, rice, 2 crab puffs, and 2 pieces of a volcano roll (containing crab). I explained to the server I couldnt have the crab puffs or the volcano roll since they contained crab. No problem he said. When I got my meal, they did not include the crab puffs or volcano roll. However, they did not substitute anything in place! So I got 3/5 items. Plus the salmon they did provide was the tiniest piece of salmon Ive ever seen as a meal portion. It could not have been more than 3 ounces. To top all of this off, other people with me ordered the hibachi. At the end of the cooking process, there were 2 extra shrimp on the grill. To my horror, I watched as he flung shrimp across the grill towards the person sitting next to me. Thankfully it didnt land in my food, but it came close. The only thing that kept me from a 1 star review what that the food I received was pretty good. Bottom line: If you are like me and have a shellfish/mollusk allergy you should avoid this restaurant completely.

My wife and I stopped in on 12 Sep 10 looking forward to a late lunch. Before ordering I wanted to use the restroom but found it occupied, so I waited by the sinks (which are located outside of the restrooms). After 5 minutes or more the hostess came back and knocked on the door, instructing the employee inside to hurry. After a moment the employee came out, put on his apron, and walked right past the sinks and the sign saying employees must wash hands. We left soon after. Ive worked in kitchens and I know not everything is always to standards, but we always tried. But if their staff cant even try when a customer is watching then I really didnt want to stay around wondering what else they let slide. Update - I also sent an e-mail via their website, and to be fair, thought I would relay some of the response from the owner. In it, the owner apologized for our experience and assured me that they have very strict guidelines including washing hands before returning to work and said that the staff member remembered the incident and did wash his hands in the kitchen, not the restroom sink due to being embarrassed that he made a paying customer wait so long. And that the owner had discussions with all the staff about washing hands and sanitizing in general. So, I will give credit to the owner, Meio Bryant, for being so responsive to a customer’s complaint.

I arrived today at 2:00pm. Kenji doesnt close for lunch until 2:30pm which gave me plenty of time to be able to grab some quick lunch & head out to a meeting. I walked in & was greeted by NO ONE at the door. After waiting for at least 5-10 minutes, I was greeted with are you wanting to place a to-go order? We close at 2:30pm. I thought that was very rude. I was finally seated & wanted to change one of the rolls on the menu (slight change). I was told that they were unable to make this change. I wanted to tempura one of the rolls, and I thought this was understandable since other rolls on their menu are done this way? I was told that the menu wasnt able to change. This is shocking since I travel quite a bit & have never had this happen before. I am a generous tipper & tend to be very gracious to service staff since I eat out quite a bit. This was shocking & disappointing!! I feel very sorry for the people of Glen Allen, VA. This is an embarrassment. I hope this sushi bar is soon replaced with one that actually wants to SERVE customers. As I am not sure how you make money without serving customers at lunch or otherwise. Dont post hours if you dont want to be open. Shut your doors & do us all a favor, especially the people of Glen Allen!

Nice place, first visit, will return. My husband, young son and I went to this restaurant on a Sunday for lunch and were pleased with the experience. The decor is nice, waitstaff was very nice, and we didnt wait long for anything. It was right at the start of the lunch hour. The food was cooked perfectly, not burned, not oversalted, not over buttered. Spring for the fried rice, quite delicious! We also had sushi which was devoured by my 4 yr old son, hes a big seafood fan so the "sensation roll" was his favorite (not spicy) :) Hubby and I also split a "volcano roll" which was very good! I would recommend this to anyone wishing a nice meal for either sushi or hibachi and with children. Great place, feel bad for the other users who expressed the bad wait times before and odd portion sizes.. I really didnt have any complaints at all regarding either the wait or portions, my kids shrimp hibachi meal was so much food I had to get a take home box.

This was an awesome little spot. The hostess was really nice. Thanked us for coming in and always smiled. Our waiter, Andrew, was phenominal. I am vegan and my boyfriend is pescatarian (basically vegan but eats fish) and Andrew was really educated about what we could and couldnt eat. He left the nonvegan sauces off of our plates and switched out the salad dressings and soups to make them vegan as well. We both had the hibachi vegetarian dinner although we didnt sit at the grill. I will say that while we loved this place and will be back, the spicy tuna roll that my boyfriend ordered was the spiciest roll hes ever had. To the point that it kind of ruined the meal. This was our fault as he chose to finish the roll but anyone who orders this roll should know that they dont use the normal spicy mayo and use spicy oil instead. Not only is it over the top hot but sticks with you for about an hour. Great place overall though.

I was waiting for the restaurant to open and finally we were able to. The restaurant was a little bare, but I understand due to just opening. We decided to do hibachi and sushi. We ordered about 4 rolls of sushi and didnt get 2 of them, but were charged for the 2. The hibachi meals are more expensive than other restaurants in the area. But we figured it would still be good. My fiance ordered the filet and shrimp. He received 4 shrimp and a small filet steak mixed with some other kind of steak (which wasnt filet). They charge you an additional $1.75 for fried rice. If both of us never ate any of the food they gave us, we would probably only have a plate half full. I ordered the chicken and it was dry, burnt and nonexistent. Needless to say, we both were highly mad when we got the bill and it was $75.00 for such horrible food.
