Living in Southern California I have access to some of the freshest seafood in the world and with probably the highest concentration of Sushi restaurants in the country I can honestly say that Osaka is right on par with some of the best. Other yelpers say its the best in Utah and I think thats very possible. The décor, service and ambiance is a step or two behind where I think they could be. It doesnt add to the experience, but doesnt deter. I happen to have gotten good service. They have quite a few tempura rolls/deep fried roll options, pretty good menu selection if your coming for rolls, I like a combination of nigiri, rolls, poke salad. Poke salad is a bit more Hawaiian than Japanese, but they did it right, maybe a little more sesame oil and I prefer blue fin to ahi. Rock and Roll is good, no rice so you get more of a true taste, squid salad was ok. Salmon was good, nothing special. I like places that play with more than just rolls, anyone can do rolls. Its whats not on the menu, the sashimi, salad, appetizers that involve fresh fish that really make you stand out. I doubt Ill ever be back in Layton, but if I was Im coming back here and Crown Burger.

Horrible service. First off they kept bringing out the wrong rolls but then would argue with us that we did order the rolls they brought out. Then they brought out octopus nigiri when I ordered octopus sashimi. I told them and again tried to argue with me and then left to "put" the order in. 40 min later no waitress even bothered to come back to our table and I still hadnt gotten my correct order. So I ate the nigiri they brought to me and apparently because they messed up I had to pay for it because I ate it. And again the waitress tried to argue with me saying I ordered nigiri. Well got the receipt it said they didnt make octopus nigiri and charged me for squid sashimi. Horrible waitresses and horrible owner. Dont eat here.

Felt sick after eating here probably because the fish is old. Especially the salmon. Just bleh. Came here for half off sushi so they were really busy but that doesnt excuse the rude service. Our waiter did not give us forks for the kids after asking several times. She just okay two three times and forgot even after the food got here. Kids were still waiting for forks to eat with. Went up to ask one of the workers standing right by the forks and was told to sit down and wait. Waited another 10 minutes asked the lady who was walking around checking things and she ran to grab me some. Never got refills either until we finished the food she then came and asked if we needed more drinks. No thanks.

I dont know why we were in Layton. We went on a drive one Saturday and just ended up here. We wanted food. We love sushi. I Yelped it, and we ended up here. Honestly, this place is pretty freaking good. Their nigiri is awesome. I love their $2 and $3 dollar skewers. The tempura veggies were good. The rolls we tried were awesome. The inside is clean. The service was kind and attentive. The prices were pretty typical. I have no complaints at all. I dont know if Ill be back simply because Im never in Layton, but if youre around, I definitely recommend this place. Its better than 75 percent of the places I go to in Salt Lake.

We came in for dinner on a Saturday night and the place was dead so that was a little off putting. Its decorated like a strip mall venue and is in real need of a more vibrant decor. The sushi was good, they do have a large variety of rolls but I dont like the pink ginger, I like the fresh kind. I will say that our server, a young blonde woman with long eye lashes was awesome. She was prompt and polite and made great suggestions for my son who is a picky eater. I would say if youre just looking for some good sushi, this place is fine. If youre looking for a fun or hip atmosphere .... no.

I used to be a regular here. I stopped going because the waitresses are a bunch of drama queens that talk about you behind your back while you are sitting there eating. They must not know how loud their voices are because they talk pretty loud. They dont know how to really pay attention either, one night I was there and they messed up the order and I got 4 rolls instead of 5, I told her so she brought the other one out but charged me for 6. Sushi is great, but youre better off just going to some other hole in the wall.

Im a long time customer of Osaka. Recently they just changed there half off policy on tuesdays to only in store customers. I ordered take out anyways paying full price. The owners must be losing money because they stopped doing half off for all customers on Tuesdays as well as I have 1/3 of the meat in my roll as I typically have received from them. I am very disappoint that I payed full price 10$ and roll and got such little meat. Most expensive ten dollar roll of rice Ive ever had

WORST SUSHI Ive ever eaten!!!! I love sushi! Been eating it now at least 1x/mo for the last 6 years. I like to try new spots and even try the little sushi bars in the grocery stores. This place had the worst sushi of any place I have ever eaten. Id rather have sushi from Harmons or Smiths sushi-bar before I ever eat here again. the fish was old and nasty. I felt sick after eating there. The service wasnt great either.

The food was excellent; the server was fun. I feel the need to say, though, that not all our food was delivered at the same time. In fact, one of the sushi rolls came as we were having dessert. I know many will care about that, so I mention it. But we were having such a good time, and the food was SOOOOO GOOOOOD, and the server(s) were so nice and enjoyable, it really didnt bother me. Definitely worth going to :).

They have great sushi, sashimi, and hand rolls. They have a nice sake list as well. Some of their vegetarian rolls are not great though. It is a very comfortable, traditional restaurant, with simple decor. The waitstaff is always friendly and know every item on the menu, but they are not in your face or pushy, which is a nice break from so many places. This is my absolute go to sushi restaurant in the area.

Stopped in for lunch, the restaurant was only about 10% seated. It took about ten minutes before someone came and took my order and then 45 min to get my food (two sushi rolls). The food was really good when I finally received but the service is lacking. Would probably choose another sushi place in the future when in Layton, I know there are a handful of options.

Not impressed - We had yakitori appetizer which was stringy chicken on a skewer with raw green pepper and swimming in a bland teriyaki sauce. Ultra tuna was tasty, yum yum roll was good but skimpy on the scallop. The presentation of the sushi was bland and not neatly rolled. An okay, but unremarkable meal, much better sushi is available at this price.
