Never go here....what has happened to this place? It used to be good. For the past couple of times, it has been bad. The service used to be good and so was food. I was there last week with my family. We ordered a couple of different variety of rice crepes (dosa). It was terrible and an example how it should not be made. Quantity was too limited and I must say, it was just literally 4 spoons of serving in the side dishes that we ordered and it was "navratn korma" and "palak paneer". God - they gave us some curd along with our order. If you take it in your spoon, the curd would feel like as if you are dipping your spoon in a bowl of "Tide" soap bowl. Of course, the curd was too sour but I am talking about the texture was like that and even the consistency - which is totally not acceptable. For people other than who come from India, if you want to try Indian food DO NOT GO HERE. This restraunt is an example of how the items in menu should not taste.

I called up on a weekday, to get lunch buffet details. The manager gave the details and when it came to pricing - he said 6.9 ...err 8.99. I thought okay and decided to give it a try. Pros - Good and attentive service. Clean and good ambience. Non-greasy and sensible vegetarian dishes. Rasam and vermicelli pudding were awesome. Cons - The vada dough was sour (over fermented). This is second time, it happened to me in couple of months. I brought it to their attention first time itself. And, they werent happy to hear from me. Dosa was dry and didnt feel like it was made from scratch. Overall, a decent place to eat again. If they could fix their batter problems, it will be better. Also, 8.99 is a little on the high side for the limited set of items (which are vegetarian only).

This place is utter waste, not worth my money & time. Like the other Customer mentioned the owner lady of this restaurant is the rudest Ive ever seen, she acts as if we Indians are eating their for free, she has no class. The food was tasteless so we were not able to finish what we took from the buffet and the owner kept looking at our plates and eventually came over and mentioned that we are wasting their food. Absolutely ridiculous, please do a favor for yourself and dont ever visit this shoddy place, they will treat you like trash. If you are craving for good vegetarian food check out the original Udipi restaurant (different owner) located in Hilcroft/Katy, you will not regret your decision.

I am a very big dosa fan and after the many many dosas that I have eaten in my life, I would rank this one pretty high up there. Im not sure how I could have missed checking out this neighborhood restaurant. The potato is perfectly spiced; not too hot, and didnt have peas (which I hate), and seasoned well. The dosa was crisp and had just the right brown color. The coconut and tomato chutney were right on target and classically flavored. The sambar was actually edible too instead of being too hot (cayenne hot) as it is at most places. Their decor could definitely updated and taken up a few notches... but aside from that definitely will make this a regular.

03-Apr-2017 : Increasing rating from 3 to 4 stars. Recently, me and my family are definitely seeing an improvement in taste of the dishes. Food is now enjoyable and we have been visiting frequently nowadays. Please keep up the same quality and taste. Will update rating and review based on my future visits. Initial Review : Its a ok place to eat. Rasam is good. They ask if everything is ok and if we tell them a suggestion they wont accept it and try to justify. Initial Review : Its a ok place to eat. Go here for buffet lunch. My Husband and I both think the food is excellent, we especially likes the vada and dosa bread they have there. The price during buffet is reasonable for indian fare, and its pretty much self serve at that time though they will bring you drinks and dosas or naan. Neither of us are vegetarian but the food is very flavorful and you dont miss the meat with all the lentil dishes and spices. Some of the dishes are spicy, but I like spicy, and they have great sauces that are cooling like the green coconut sauce.

Came for the Indian buffet, which was delicious, but will be back for the friendly service. Sometimes Indian food can be a little intimidating if you are not familiar with the ingredients used, but the staff at Udipi Cafe sensed when a little info was needed, and were great about graciously letting us know whats what. The owner even ordered a couple dosas for us to try (both were great). Definitely a recommend if you are in the area.

i seriously do NOT understand all the negative reviews... im not vegetarian myself, but a few of my friends are and we checked out the restaurant out of curiosity. it was fantastic! the samosas we got were fresh- not heated up like a lot of the ones you get from other restaurants- and the paneer dishes we got were absolutely delicious. would definitely recommend if you are looking for filling indian food in the sugarland area

Not being a huge fan South Indian Food, this is the only place I really enjoy eating it as the food tastes very fresh and tasteful. They not only make everything to your taste, but they take care of you like you are at your relatives place: Starting you off with a bowl of Rasam and being greeted and cared for by the owner themselves. I have tried other South Indian places, and nothing comes close to Udipi in Sugar Land.

NONSENSE continues again and again!!! The owner, management, waiters and the the people there treat customers like trash and have no common sense of how to talk to individuals - the food is EXTREMELY PATHETIC!!! the potato manchurian was probably a week old and just about everything in the buffet appeared to be stale and I highly regret visiting this place and wasting my money here! NEVER EVER AGAIN!!!

Pathetic food and very bad customer service...The lady was too rude...As we didnt like the food in the buffet we couldnt eat wat we took in our plates...and the manager came to us saying that we r wasting the food...and she came to us twice to say the same thing...and at the end she charged for our 3 yr old kid (who ate just 1 idli) and also didnt accept our coupon....Will never go there again!!!!

Contrary to internet reports, this restaurant is NOT closed. It is under different ownership. It is still alive and well! The rude lady mentioned by the other posters is no longer the owner. The place was repossessed by the original owner after she failed to make her payments. So she is posting all over the internet that the place is closed, when it is not. The service here is excellent now!

The food here is outstanding. Ive tried many Indian restaurants in the US and this one is top notch. The dosas, uttapams, and other south indian food is great. The few times weve ordered north Indian its been great too. Some recommendations: Medu Vada, Spring Dosa, Malai Kofta, Chola Bhatura, Madras Coffee. But you cant go wrong with anything. Highly recommend this place for Indian food.
