Ive been to this location a few times. My first trip was when they first opened. I am a pizza "purist". I hate the idea of pineapple (and other weird stuff) on pizza. So, I was a little skeptical about trying Mellow Mushroom. They definitely have a very Austin-esque vibe. The inside has funky art. They have a large selection of craft (and other) beers. Even the employees seem to fit the "alternative" mold. If youre uber-conservative (and not open-minded), this might not be the atmosphere for you. Ive only had their pizzas, so I cant comment on their other menu items (I might have had an appetizer or two). Initially, I was VERY skeptical of their crust. I believe it is a whole-wheat crust? It has the color of whole wheat bread. I gave them an honest chance though, even ordering outside of my comfort zone with some of their "specialty" pizzas. I was pleasantly surprised. The crust is one of the best I have had (whole wheat and all)! Even the weird (to me) combination of toppings worked well together. I especially liked the "Philosophers Pie" or "Ribeye Pie" (depending on your location). I didnt go too far off the reservation (No "Maui Wowie" or "Thai-dye Pie"). But, what I have had, I have thoroughly enjoyed. Im no craft beer junkie, but they do have a good selection and what I have had was good. Also, the staff has been very good. I dont know if its their training, their philosophy, or their hiring process, but just about everyone seems friendly and willing to help. It is not cheap, however. So, be prepared for that, especially if youre feeding the whole family.

Food & Beer was good. The pretzels are pretty good. The service was terrible. Me and some friends walked in at 9:30pm after a softball game to have some drinks and quick bite to eat. They sat us down, let us order our food and drinks and then told us they closed at 10pm, which we were fine with (no biggie) so as we got our food all of a sudden they began to put up all of the chairs on all of the tables, turned the tvs off and were cleaning up everywhere around us. Coming from the food industry any place that I have worked at if anyone was still eating we were not allowed to start putting up chairs until they left. We felt so rushed the whole time we were there, like they were trying to kick us out the door. I dont agree with them sitting us at 9:30, allowing us to order drinks and food and then tell they close at 10 and try to push us out of the door the whole time we are there. That is very unacceptable. I personally will not be returning to this one. I hear the one in Austin is great!!! everything else was good, but the service was terrible and I feel like the service is what will "make or break" any kind of branch in the food industry

Amazing pizza and craft beer. Waitstaff and hostess are all very friendly. Also a bit unique (think Portlandia). Very surprised this place is so low rated. Ive been here several times and never had a bad experience. When you order pizza they tell you it will take a while - but it never seemed longer than any other restaurant. If I had any complaint, they are overly attentive. Great specialty "gourmet" pizza options. A little pricey, but worth it. Even better - you can do half and half, so you can try two different ones at a time. I vote half Maui Wowie, half House. Most importantly, this is the best place for local Houston craft beer, hands down (and yes Ive been to Flying Saucer). While they have fewer taps than Saucer, they have beers from super small up-and-coming Houston brewers like Cyclers and Lone Pint. Plus other Texas favorites like Southern Star, Karbach, Real Ale, and even St Arnolds (if you havent moved on). Pricing for craft brews are on par with other places, and they often have specials. Overall, highly recommended.

Where do I start. Not sure how to take this but when eating in any public establishment I would assume a straw would be offered. I know it seems picky but I dont know who has put there mouth on those cups before me. And so we proceeded to order our food and got an appetizer because the pizza would take a while. Well we ordered a caeser salad. Well when we got the salad it had not one drop of the dressing on it. So I asked for dressing and when I get the bill I got charged for something that should have already been on my meal. So when we get to the pizza portion I feel like the pizza is not that great. Not enough sauce seems very skimpish to me. Not to mention the pizza in general had a weird after taste to it. In all would I or will I go back....... NO I will never be going back to this establishment again. Not to mention the food seems really high priced.

Cool atmosphere, but way over priced! The younger crowd benefits more from the offerings here from the nice bar, edgy decor & many TVs....but I wouldnt say its very family friendly with the prices. We were honestly shocked to open the menu & see $24.99 for a large pizza. They have a wide variety of speciality pizzas to choose from, but the build your own prices become unreasonable quickly when youre talking $2.29 per topping for a large with the base starting at $14.99. Due to the competition in the area, I think they would do better to adjust their prices & cook time. Food was overcooked for both of us (pizza crust black), and while the manager made it right by remaking an item we ordered, he said that the way it originally came out was standard. Overall inspite the good service, the food/prices wasnt near good enough to bring us back.

Been there for dinner and it is ok, but my advice is to avoid for lunch for any sort of group unless you are just ordering slices or have 2 hours. Went with a group from work, literally took an hour to get our food, and one of the pizzas got burned so about a third of our team had to sit there for another 10 minutes waiting and watching us eat. Even though they had a lot of trustafarian type waiters, 4 of them stood around not doing much from one what I could tell while the 1 waiter they had assigned to our table was overwhelmed. Im pretty sure they lost/didnt put in our orders for about 30 minutes. The pizza is good, although a little pricey. The atmosphere has that fake bohemian vibe and lots of double entendre drug jokes on the menu.

Went here yesterday for the first time, with the family. Everyone had a great time. We got full and everything was really good. They have a large selection of beer. They specialize in pizza. But have other things on the menu such as salad, pretzels and meatballs. Everything is decently priced and the things I had was extremely delicious. Our server Josh was such a sweet guy and very helpful. Especially when it came to explaining items on the menu, and ingredients used. I recommend the buffalo chicken pizza with ranch dressing. Yum! Overall I say Great place to stop in and grab a bite to eat and drink. The atmosphere is very colorful and relaxing. And we saw all age groups come in. And have a great time.
