--- NK Score = 8.2/10 --- 8/10 = Furniture/Ambience 9/10 = Food Quality 8/10 = Prices/Services (Other Ratings Hidden) _____________________________________________ =( BASIC INFO )= - Medium Sized Restaurant - Sometimes Busy, Usually Ok - Good Food ( $9.00 - $17.00 ) - Korean Tofu Soups, BBQ, Noodles - Quite Pricy, Good Service - Ok Parking, Some Walking _____________________________________________ = Atmosphere = Casual ambience, the inside looks nice and organized, but its just one room so youll be able to hear some noise from the nearby tables. Also, its usually not very busy, so you can relax and enjoy your meal without much wait time. Overall a pretty relaxed restaurant. _____________________________________________ = Food Quality = - ZaZang ($11.99): Noodles with black bean sauce. The kind they make here is quite interesting, it has a unique sweetness with a small touch of umami. The noodles were very soft and tender, and the sauce was extraordinarily delicious, although maybe a tiny bit too sweet. Other than that, this bowl of ZaZang noodles definitely gave me a good time and a belly too full to realize Im still sitting here. - Korean BBQ + Tofu Soup ($17.99): Combination of some BBQ and a nice Seafood Beef tofu soup. The bbq was pretty standard, nothing too special or yummy about it, and the portion was kind of small. On second hand, the tofu soup was nice and savory, it was warm and had a nice texture that cleansed all the flavors in my mouth. I didnt think this one was that worth it. - Spicy Samkyupsal Fried Rice ($11.99): Semi-spicy fried rice with a nice egg yolk that tenderizes the flavor and heightens the texture. Pretty good fried rice, but the satisfaction decreases as time goes by, possibly cause too much rice and not much anything else. Overall a decent dish to try. - Infinite Sides (Free!): Actually pretty good and delicious, like I could eat this stuff all day and be satisfied. Most of the sides are somewhat sweet, like the tofu skin, mash potato, and kimchi, which is different from most places, but still pretty darn delicious. The mash potatoes are really something else, so good! _____________________________________________ = Price / Service = Quite expensive place to eat, almost overpriced, except for the fact that you get infinite FREE sides! Like 6 different sides for free? Infinite? FREE? INFINITE? Ok, Im done here. FREE? UNLIMITED!?? I mean it would be a rip off if the sides were bad, BUT ITS GOOD! Free! Unlimited sides that are super fun to eat with your friends! Otherwise, most of the entree and other dishes are a bit pricy for a small portion. Very good service, attentive and fast. Theyre also very coordinated and seem to work together well. _____________________________________________ Recommendations: Share with a friend or as a group, youll save money as well as have fun eating the sides together, but please dont just order 1 dish for 4 friends.... thats just disrespectful and rude. - Signed NK (June 2017) - Images below by Jason Lx (NK)

I have to say, I read Alex Ms review and I was completely baffled so much that I had to leave a review too. For someone who claims to have a background in Asian food service, he seems to have zero understanding of Korean food and seems to have it confused with Thai or Chinese food. The hot stone pot? The whole point is to make the rice crispy either for just eating or for dishes like dol sot bibimbap. You never get rice in a plastic pot with a lid for Korean food...you get it in either a metal bowl with lid or a big hot stone pot. And Korean food never uses jasmine rice. Jasmine rice is used mostly in Chinese and southeast Asian cuisine. Japanese and Korean cuisine prefer medium/short grain rice. I think Alex is confusing Korean food with Chinese food because his suggestions/complaints just dont make sense. Everything he complains about (the pricing of meat items, the bed of onions under the meat) is very standard with Korean food and just shows that he has no experience actually eating Korean food. Im from LA where we have a wide variety of amazing Korean food. This is a great Korean restaurant for Houston standards with authentic Korean food, end of story.

I will be as detailed yet non offensive as possible. The rice below average. Its served in individual stonelike bowl. This makes the rice dry and its tasteless. I would serve jazmin rice which is scented and delicious on the usual plastic container with a LID and a spoon to keep it moist. We ordered the Korean BBQ and the pork belly (17.99 and 16.99). Both dishes far below the standard and overpriced for the quality, quantity and presentation. The meats were dry and sitting on a pile of almost raw sliced white onions and Im not going to get into the side dishes. The service was good and fast but thats not what I came here for. I wanted to give you Robert a chance since we noticed you care about the reviews however my experience coming from a food service/Asian cuisine background Im feeling disappointed. I probably will not be eating here again. Sometimes you only get one chance from a guest and this was it for me. I wish you the best and hope the reviews help you target the areas of opportunity in your restaurant. Regards.

Stay away unless you pay with cash. I paid for my meal and the waiter came back with 3 receipts stapled together. He said he forgot to charge us for the appetizer, so the first receipt is the 1st charge, the 2nd receipt is the refund and the 3rd receipt is the new charge. I took his word and signed all 3 receipts. The stapled receipts didnt make it obvious that the card was charged 3 times. Noticed there was a mistake on my credit card bill. I was thinking "people make mistakes, Ill call the bank and get this sorted out". Now I thinking all is well and they will realize that they obviously made a mistake. Nope! They came back and said I signed all three receipts and it was correct. Really!? So youre saying that 2 people ate $90 dollars of food. Keep in mind this place doesnt serve alcohol. Thats just bad business. P.S. your Korean BBQ is basically ground beef with sauce. I expected more from a restaurant from Chinatown. If you want real BBQ, go to Korean Garden BBQ. Its definitely worth the drive and the extra cost.

Jang Guem Tofu & BBQ House is my favorite Korean restaurant in Houston for tofu soup. The texture of the soft tofu mixed with the red pepper spices makes the soup most enjoyable on a chilly day. They have so many combinations of soups to choose from and even a spice chart (1 - 5; Non-spicy - Extra Spicy) to suit all diners preferences. All meals are served with around 6-7 side dishes that include bean sprouts, kimchi, fish cakes, mashed potato salad, pickled cucumbers, etc. Every side dishes can be refilled if youd like more and servers usually walk by periodically to ask if you want any refills. Also, if you order an entree or soup, a fried mackerel is served as an appetizer that comes with the meal. If youre a Korean BBQ fan, Jang Guem has combo meals that include a bbq meat option paired with a tofu soup. The Korean BBQ (with bones) is more rich flavored, while the Bulgogi (boneless) option is cooked with a sweeter sauce. Both selections go together well with your complete meal.

Whoa whoa whoa people! Where are all these good reviews coming from!? I would give this place zero stars if I could. I can honestly say this is THE WORST Korean food I have ever had in my life. I cant even call it Korean food. Its just BAD food. Even the service was horrible. It was lunch rush hour and the manager or owner lady was running around with an angry face yelling at her servers. We heard her cursing under her breath in Korean. Also, she was refilling waters with a regular cup instead of a pitcher and subsequently spilled it everywhere. She spilled water all over a womans purse that was sitting next to our table. If youre looking for anything remotely close to decent Korean food, stay far far away from here. You will be sorely disappointed and just down right angry.
