October 2015. I finally got out to Roegels for a lunch. Called up a friend who met me there. It is now my favorite place in Houston for brisket barbecue and pork ribs in Houston. I think it would fare well against any Austin barbecue place. Nuff said. You need to go. Stat. We ordered sliced brisket sandwiches each. As you can see from the photo, the meat was perfect. Moist and not dry. A good crust. A great smoky flavor. Served with a squeeze bottle of their barbecue sauce. My friend told me that the last time he was here, the sauce was so spicy that it actually could have ruined the barbecue experience. But both he and I are bbq purists and typically decline to sauce our cue. But now, I had to try it. And I found it to be very mild. However, the sauce that was in the little container of my take home was pretty spicy, so there may be an inconsistency here. No big deal. I prefer not using sauce. We loved our brisket sandwiches so much that we confirmed to come back and try the pork ribs. But on our way out, we decided to split a pound to take home. I can tell you that my most perfectly delicious ribs did not even make it home. I had a taste and ended up finishing them off at the various traffic lights. I am already looking forward to my next visit here.

Russell Roegels and his wife Misty have quickly made a name for themselves in the Texas BBQ scene. After having been open on their own for less than a year, they garnered a 2-star review from Alison Cook of the Houston Chronicle, with especially high marks from her on the brisket and homemade bourbon banana pudding. Roegels is turning out peppery, well-seasoned Central Texas-style brisket that is as moist and flavorful as some of the best in the state. Pork spareribs get some of that same seasoning and are consistently good as well. Follow them on their various social media pages so youll know in advance when theyre going to serve some of their excellent daily specials, like smoked pork belly, big beef plate ribs, beef rib burnt ends, rack of lamb chops, or pork chops. Open every day for lunch and dinner, but due to increasing popularity, theyve had more and more days where theyre sold out early, before the dinner hour. Get there early!

Over the last 35 years, Ive been to most BBQ places in the Houston area and Roegels is now my #1 "go to" place for barbecue. The brisket is juicy and can easily be cut with a plastic fork. The pork ribs barely stay on the bone. And if you are lucky to get the beef ribs - they are "outta this world"!! The rub is magnificent, the unparalleled smoke-flavored meat is succulent, and the BBQ sauce is perfectly paired, catapulting these lovely flavors to a new altitude of bliss! I can also vouch for the sides and the dessert - especially the banana cream pudding. So next time you want to experience "SECOND TO NONE TEXAS BBQ" and when you have a hankering for a "super delicious" fare that leaves you feeling fully content - go experience Roegels Barbecue. Your mouth and tummy will urge you to become a regular. Eventually, you too will start maniacally spreading the good word about this Houston delight.

This place is a diamond in the rough. Best brisket ever, and that is not an exaggeration. I ordered the three meat plate with two sides. The potato salad was unique and excellent. The macaroni and cheese looked like they added a little salt and pepper to Kraft Mac n cheese, however, that was my mistake for ordering it, as many of the other sides looked much better, I was just craving mac n cheese. The smoked boudin was very good, as were the pork ribs, however, there are many barbecue places in Houston that you can get good ribs. One thing you cant get at any other barbecue establishment is the melt in your mouth, loads of flavor that come off the brisket. Ive eaten a lot of brisket in my life, and Ive competed in brisket cook offs. None compare. Seriously, if you go here and dont get the brisket, youve done yourself no favors.

The beauty of Texas barbecue is that its so intrinsically delectable you won’t need sauce to bring out the flavor although it is available at family owned and operated Roegels Barbecue Co. The establishment consistently combines exceptional Texas BBQ, great atmosphere and cold Texas craft brews for a memorable dining experience. Here you will discover what many consider to be the finest barbecue this side of the Mississippi (if not the country), all ordered up fresh from the pit and lovingly devoured by legions of fans. If you want to jazz up said meat, simple adornments like jalapenos, pickles, onions and tomatoes suffice. A favorite of mine, while Roegels Barbecue Co. can definitely have lengthy lines, they move quickly If youve got time to be leisurely, Roegels Barbecue Co. is a cant-miss experience for barbecue lovers.

I have been 3 times since changing to Roegels. First time the brisket was delicious. Second time was a Friday at 7pm and they were out of brisket because of a 4 lb to go order and 3rd time was a Saturday at 1130 am and was told the brisket wouldnt be ready until 1:45 or 2:00. If you are lucky enough to get some brisket, its very good. Otherwise be prepared to go somewhere else as I have had to the past two times. There are an increasing number of good BBQ places in Houston and if you are not going to have the top reason to go, I dont see where I would go back. Its not like there is a line out the door where they should be running out of or not having it prepared.

The brisket, pork ribs, and pulled pork are incredible. The beef ribs are good but overly crusted with black pepper for my preference. Sides are excellent as well with delicious smoked bioudan, amazing mac and cheese and beans that are savory and delicious. Classic counter order country style place that smells incredible when you walk in, like a good bbq place should. Food is served on cafeteria trays covered with waxed paper, seating at 4 person or 8 person tables or picnic tables, with rolls of paper towels for cleaning up. Low ceiling, the place is old and feels exactly like a good Texas bbq place should.

When the caterer for my wedding cancelled with 2 weeks notice, someone suggested I contact Roegels. Russel and his team were happy to help, and were incredibly friendly and accommodating. They delivered bbq for 90 people (or in our case, 70 hungry people,) it showed up exactly on time, and it was absolutely delicious; many of our guests asked where it came from, so they would know where to get more. The brisket absolutely vanished, and the turkey far exceed my expectations for bbq poultry. Will certainly be visiting for lunch many times in the future.

Id best describe this bbq as something I wouldnt mind eating for lunch at work on a weekday. Good enough that I enjoy eating it, but not so good that Im going to eat until Im miserable. Im sure Ill go back because its close to me. There are definitely far worse options in Houston. Disclaimer: Im not some internet hipster who has discovered myself by eating at the Texas Monthly Top 50, just a guy who likes to eat good BBQ often (this is sometimes a struggle). So, this review may not be for you.
