I had heard great things about this little place and driven past it many times. Tonight we ate there and it was amazing. Im a Mexican food snob from California -- have sneered at nearly every Mexican place weve eaten in Nashville, but this one is the real deal. This is not American-style Mexican, it is real Mexican. Everything is made fresh and each bite is a treat. The guacamole is fabulous, chunky, freshly made. The queso was the best Ive had. I had camarones de mojo ajo and they were cooked and seasoned perfectly. If you like shrimp, there is a whole menu page of choices. The beans were delicious. The freshly made tortillas were also delicious. I hear the tacos are great. The menu offers a lot of choices. The prices are very low. Go there with a big appetite.

I was VERY pleased with my experience at El Jaliciense (which Im still not sure how to pronounce). Id driven by this market/restaurant so many times but because of its unassuming exterior I hadnt considered going in . . . but when a friend raved about their tacos I decided to tag along. The tacos are fantastic but small- youll probably want to order 3-5 per person. The tacos were basically a very simple formula or corn tortillas, whatever meat you choose, onion, cilantro and chives. It was fresh and delicious and I might have to start a weekly taco-night just to get my fix.

Went there with 3 other people representing a variety of taste/dietary preferences including a vegetarian and someone who doesnt like spicy food. Everyone was very pleased with the options and all requests regarding adjustments were accommodated. The service was great. We lingered over the meal and were never felt like they were trying to rush us out. Excellent food, atmosphere, service, and price!

Decided to try this while traveling based on other reviews. I was hoping to find one of those "unique, hole-in-the-wall that turns out great" places. This was not it. While the staff was friendly, the food was simply not much. Tacos from the menu (no kids menu) were only $1.25 but were only 4 inches round! So after spending a chunk of money for supper, my family left still hungry. Disappointed.

Oh my goodness! We have driven past this place too many times to only find out how good it is now. Small menu, thats ok - keep it simple! And boy do they. The guacamole is made to order, the chips are fresh, the portions are huge, and the everything tasted so good. We look forward to the next time so we can taste something else on the menu!

Good, authentic Mexican food in my opinion. Werent the friendliest in the world when they first opened, but seem to be better now. Really like the selection of Mexican snacks at the counter. Good idea to get another buck or two of you on the way out (works on me at least!).

Seriously, I dont understand the love... You can go a bit north on Gallatin and eat at Las Fiestas where they make their own tortillas. And the food is awesome. These Jalisco payasos at El Jaliciense just put sour cream and guac on top of dry old meat and call it authentic.

By far my favorite Mexican food in Nashville. The street food style cilantro-and-onion tacos are probably the best in the area (particularly the shrimp or chorizo), and the soups are worth mentioning as well. They also have great vegetarian dishes, if you roll that way.

Best guacamole aside from home. FRESH FRESH FRESH! Everything on both our plates was delicioso. Bottled drinks only and no iced tea available, but well go back for sure. Great food, nice people. The building is modest to be polite, but what awaits inside is delightful.

$1.50 tacos and Mexican coke oh man delicious and fun to go with a friend or group. They bring out a really spicy green sauce with the tacos - not a front heat, but a back heat that builds. It will burn your mouth-loved it! Yes they bring out free chips and salsa.

Good food, hasnt succumbed to the SYSCO Foods truck yet. Guacamole is still made fresh, the ingredients are cooked to order and the staff is nice. Has a nice vibe, unlike some bigger mexican restaurants that all seem the same. Oh, and its super cheap.

We went here because we heard the tacos were good. They were just ok. Kind of flavorless. I like the Mexican street tacos from Las Fiestas better. And neither compare to some of the better taco trucks. We did like the quacamole.

First, excellent authentic tacos. Second, Ive also fallen in love with their huevos con chorizo for breakfast. This place may look unassuming, but if I had a mexican grandmother I imagine she would cook food like they do.

Excellend food. Wait time can be inexplicably long sometimes, but its a small family run restaurant. Not fancy, but if youve traveled or lived in Central America, youll feel at home. Best authentic tacos in town.

It is a small restaurant but is not really good Mexican food. It is cheap and is ok, but the choriqueso was really bad. Pozole was just OK same as birria, it is Regular food. I am not coming back

Closest thing to authentic Mexican food in Nashville. Reasonably priced, and those 4 inch $1.25 tacos, are how tacos are supposed to come. Some people are ignorant of what authentic anything is.

Its been a couple of years since I ate here, but it was very tasty. I had enough food to eat half and take the rest home. The place is a combination grocery store and restaurant. I will return.

Food and prices were good, but service was just ok. Also, the lower level didnt appear to be air conditioned and on a 90 degree day the inside was a little uncomfortable for sit-down dining.

The guacamole is made fresh for each order, the burritos are the size of an infant, the al pastor tacos are delicious and the civiche will burn your lips off. Whats not to love?

Tacos are the life blood of America and these people happen to serve the best tacos in Nashville. Get the Monster taco with shrimp. The ceviche is always delicious.

The food is ok at best. Service was good. But I cannot recommend the food. Pretty bland for an authentic Mexican restaurant.

Worst Mexican restaurant I have ever been to. Rice was cold and food tasted awful. Also very rude.
