Hey theres no arguing the building is awesome, a great place for summer to sit outside in the sun, or under a roof, or even in the bar with fresh air blowing in the open end. I used to go there alot, its close to the crib, and love the food. When the place first opened I spoke to the owner who is a great guy. At the time staff was awesome. About 3 months ago they lost their temp manager, can remember his name but he was a cool guy. Very personable! Now they got some woman in there whom I feel is more worried about her personal life to even realize what the restaurant is doing around her. A waitress spilt my drink on melast time I was there, but it was just water and I was outside, I wasn’t mad, but this manager came to the table yet she did not address the situation or offer any kind of apology, just said “everything ok?” even though she knew what happened. I think since she has been manger alot of new employees also followed. My guess is she was so rude to the great staff that had been collected over the years that they just left. This makes it even worse because here hiring skills leave room for more to be desired. Now that most of the good staff has left the place may not be running on auto pilot like it was when she started. Now she hired some other questionable staff, I really don’t even want to go there anymore, I dont wanna deal with the staff so I just get takeout. I did ask a waitress about the departure of my fav manager, they cried with me that he was gone and said something about when the new Mad Mex down Pittsburgh opens maybe the mean lady will leave and we get the old manager back! I would love that. I did not write this review to "bash" Mad Mex" of Monroeville. I like it there and will go with friends still. This is just my cry out to the world that the place has been reduced to a shadow of what it once was. I think were skimping in the staff department big time.

As a long-time Big Burrito devotee it pains me to write this review, but this Mad Mex location has fallen so, so far in the last couple years. First and foremost, the kitchen has totally lost its way. I suspect that a mix of turnover and apathy has taken its toll in the back of the house. Food is no longer predictably good or even passable. It has become a total crap shoot as to whether or not you will even get all of the basic components of your food. As to the front of the house, Mad Mex is chronically under-staffing this location. Our server tonight (the busiest night of the week) had all of the patio and a large zone indoors. Being stretched so thin it was hard to fault him for being completely dismissive of our kitchen issues - he had literally 30+ other tables to deal with. Tonight my entree was missing fully half of its components rendering it inedible. I pointed this out and was given a half comp for the entree. It was at this moment that I realized I was finally done with this location. After 3 years as a bi-weekly customer, I wont be back.

Monroeville Man said it already about the current manager. She has no clue about running a restaurant. Ive been a patron since they first opened and am also a local. The place is about a mile from my house. The wait staff is great, the food is great, the beer selection is awesome, prices are decent and the atmosphere is usually pleasant except when the manager thinks its okay to open the bars "garage door" when its 95 degrees outside. Came to the bar and expected a refreshing break from the heat and humidity, but after being inside for 5 minutes, it was almost like being outside. Especially with the flies that came in. I had to swat them away from my food continually. Managers reaction? I could sit near the back of the dining room where there will be LESS flies. What! Less flies? How about NO FLIES. Will make less frequent visits until the picnic atmosphere is gone.

Sat for 45 minutes after ordering the Gobblerito while on an hours lunch break. Not only was I not told that for some reason putting turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes into a burrito shell would take longer than this. After about 20 minutes the waitress very obviously was not stopping by or even looking our way despite me making eye contact with her. Why they cant warn people who sit down that it will take forever I dont know. I will not only never return, but will tell everyone i know what a horrible experience I had. I had to return to work without eating. Thanks a lot.

In all fairness , the service was very good. However , the food was pretty much unedible. The taco meat was basically warmed Hormel beanless chili. The blackbeans were in a gooey lump. And chopped tomatoes with parsley is not the same as salsa. My sons burrito was filled with undercooked chunks of vegetables. Again ...the server was good , and almost seemed embarrassed to even serve this slop , but he was very polite and understanding about it. You would make a better choice by going to Patrons down the street... Mad Mex really sucks ...

Service was absolutely horrible! We were treated like a pain rather than a paying customer. The food was mediocre but its definitely not home-style Mexican food. Youre better off going to Patron or El Campensino across the street. The soup was luke-warm almost cold. Our server was too occupied with his fellow co-workers who came in on their day off. I will not be returning here. I wouldve thought after all the positive reviews this wouldve been the perfect place to stop for a late night bite, but boy was I wrong!

Great food as always but I just cant give a 5 star review until chips are free. Just about any mex place around gives free chips and salsa with a meal. I sent an email to HQ and they responded with how the chips are hand crafted special chips made with baby tears etc... but honestly they taste like any other tortilla chip. Their salsa is good but not $5.00 good.

Mad Mex, a local chain, is one of the best spots in the eastern suburbs for unique food with its tex mex menu. Happy hour is excellent, with a broad selection of craft drafts and their famous margaritas. The food has consistently been excellent for years, as has the service. This one of the hot spots in Monroeville to head to after a day of work.

The food and staff were good, but the margaritas were by far the worst I have ever tasted. There was a strong taste of what I can only describe as plastic, possibly vinyl. I feel like either they substituted the cheapest Tequila on the planet, or their margarita mixer must have been leaking engine oil into the mix. Something has gone very wrong.

We missed Gobblerito season, but we did try the seasonal mix. Brussel Sprouts and Sweet Potatoes in a Burrito. Good selection of special TEX mex foods. They are even rated on the WW app if you are tracking the points, just make sure you save up some for a visit.

Went for lunch. Service was horrible, had to ask for a refill. Food also bad. Burrito had more beans in it than anything else. Even worse, those little black flies were flying around the bar which is a clean sign of a dirty place. Will never go back.
