went to Harumi for my birthday; I was seeking an authentic Japanese experience considering I used to live there, ands miss Japan dearly. Harumi did not let me down. The moment I stepped foot into the joint, I felt so comfortable. The staff were using simple Japanese and seemed to appreciate when I complimented them in their language. The atmosphere is partially casual, but honestly, you can make a night at Harumi into any sort of occasion. Id go there alone, dressed up for clubbing with my girls, or on an intimate date. Its really what you make of it. The food.... The rolls are incredible. You know when you go to sushi and it takes 15-20 minutes for your first plate to come out? Well, say goodbye to that poor service and even poorer quality of food. Before I could slip in another order, I had a steaming hot plate of gyoza at my fingertips, within 60 seconds of placing the order. I swear to you the potstickers were still sizzling. We tried the Harumi and the Oh My God rolls. Nothing beats the smoky essence permeating the tangy-fresh flavors of the OMG roll, which is set on fire at a table-side presentation. The signature Harumi roll is mild enough for finicky eaters, yet an adventurous roll for those who enjoy a great dollop of wasabi on their bite. I was lucky enough to sample the mochi green tea ice cream, which is palate-cleansing and as authentic of a dessert that Ive encountered in the US. Give Harumi a shot!

The food was good. But the service was terrible. Took OVER 30 minutes to bring us the lunch specials, so long we had to basically eat and run to get back to work on time (we walked from an office 15 min away), didnt get to enjoy the food. No explanation for the delay was given, until I was preparing to stop a waitress at the counter and ask if we had been forgotten. Then she said "Oh, were short a chef today" (although I counted six people working on the line in the kitchen, and others food came out before ours did). Well, if thats true, you should be up front with irritated customers wondering if they have been forgotten. Next, the check didnt appear until we asked, again just before I was going to approach the counter and ask for it again. Finally, the water was never refilled... I would have asked, but never got a chance, as the waitress never came back to the table during the meal. Too bad, I had been looking forward to trying it for a long time. But I wont be back, I dont have a long enough lunch hour to deal with unpredictable and forgetful service.

What. A. Gem. I was downtown on 12/26 and quickly learned half of all of the restaurants were closed for the day, so I stumbled upon this place. I called to make sure they were open and they answered quickly! Plus one. I eat sushi occasionally- not often. It needs to be done right, and in Arizona- thats tough. My husband and I sat down, and seared salmon nigiri with a slight kick was placed at our table within minutes. We were so confused at first at their generosity! My husband and I arent used to complementary service at restaurants, so that was an extra treat! I love salmon, so I ordered some simple nigiri. He offered real Wasabi on the side. Omg. That IS real Wasabi!! My husband got the Oasis roll, and ohhhhhh boy, was that a hit! Cucumber wrap?! Gimme! SO refreshing! The table next to us asked us what wrap we got, because thats how unique it is! We also split the fried dumplings, gyoza, and they were SO delicious. Service, food and atmosphere was amazing. Prices were also very good for the quality, in my opinion.

Wow. I am shocked at transpired here today. I have eaten here a few times before, and always enjoyed the food. This time, when the sushi was being delivered, my party received a roll we had not ordered. When we informed the waiter, he and another waiter or the floor manager returned with the order list. They pointed out that the dynamite roll was marked, and placed the roll on the table. I looked at the ingredients and insisted I had not ordered it, and my wife was convinced she hadnt as well. They kept insisting we had, and as my wife said "they made me feel crazy with their insistence". I was half expecting them to comp the roll, especially after my many statements about how it would not be eaten. However, there it was on the bill. I have never been treated so poorly in my life, and I will not be returning any time soon. Its unfortunate because I enjoy the food but the lack of respect for the customer went too far.

My wife and I were visiting Phoenix and before our lunch time flight we visited Harumi. We both consider ourselves "foodies" and believe the quality of sushi, staff, and service here was excellent. After ordering several plates of sushi and sitting close to kitchen, the chef made us a blue fin tuna sashimi, where the tuna was “kissed” on the grill with a dash of real smoke. The combination of a quality tuna, dash of smoke was unbelievable and one of the better items I have eaten in recent memory. The blue tuna was on the house and the chef gave us individualized attention during a busy lunch crowd. We will definitely visit again on our return visit to Phoenix.

This is a great joint. Fast, solid service and an excellent product. I have enjoyed everything I have had here and the chef plates are particularly well done even if you have specific requests. For instance I had a friend who was not eating rice at the time, which made for an odd situation at a Sushi place. However the chef accommodated them and delivered an amazing plate. The black/purple rice may be gimmicky to some but I like the texture and flavor of it. This is not the best sushi I have eaten in town but it has always been consistently good.

My favorite! Even though I have sushi options by my house, I make the 20+ minute drive to come here. My favorite place to sit is right by where the sushi is prepared, you get to watch everything being made and they give samples too. It can get a little busy and I dont think they take reservations but normally the wait is pretty short. If you want a sushi roll on fire, try out the omg roll. (The flavor has a BBQ taste to it and is not my number one choice but it is worth the experience) Every time I go, I try something new - definitely worth the visit.

The food was fresh and tasted great but the service was terrible, possibly the worst Ive ever had at a restaurant. Came in at 9:20 and they close at 10 and was rushed the whole time. As a restaurant employee myself, I understand how much it sucks to have late comers when youre tired and want nothing more than to go home, but thats part of the job. Its what youre getting paid for and ultimately what the guests are PAYING for. Good food and good service, the only thing that made me give this place any stars at all was how the food tasted.

This is my favirite sushi place in the Valley. Everything is always so fresh and the perfect temperature. I hate sushi places where the sushi is too warm or too cold. Another thing I love about this place is the use of black/purple rice. It makes it fun to eat and its a great conversation starter! Plus, black rice is a cancer fighting super food. I cant recommend this place enough. Great service and fresh delicious sushi! They also have tons of vegan and vegetarian options. Tip: Try the vegetable tempura for the appetizer.
