I went there because a coworker gave me a promotional gift card in an envelope the bar gives out that states you have to have the waiter open to find out what is in it if you want it to be valid. Okay, I get it, its a somewhat clever scheme. Well nowhere on the printed rules does it state that you have to wait until after you received the bill but thats the fun unwritten rule they spring on you when you show up to redeem it. So now you could receive anywhere from $5 to $50 off your bill but you dont know and if you order less than $50 and you happen to "win" that large you lose the extra. Heres the deal, they put together the deal and then after the fact shifted the promotion because they didnt like that people took into account their promotion when ordering. Thats just skeezy. The service, food, atmosphere, and beer selection were all mediocre at best. I wont be returning.

Simply put: the service was terrible. My wife an I ate here and every member of the staff we interacted with was apathetic at best, and downright hostile at worst. Its not like the place was busy either; it was a Tuesday night and the place was 80% empty, and it still felt like we were inconveniencing them. The food was fine, I suppose, but the price was not justified. The food was so-so, pretty much what youd expect from a dive-y sports bar, but the price did not match the quality. I suppose they had a good amount of TVs, if youre explicitly going for a sporting event. We asked for one of the TVs to be changed to a game we wanted to watch, and it took about 15 mins to get that to happen. Simply put, never going back. Even the nearby brewpub chains (which I normally detest) are better than The Independent.

I love this place. Its staffed with folks that enjoy sports and are all too happy to put whatever game is available up on a nearby screen, and unlike many "sports bars the staff actually knows how to work the television system. As for the pricing, its downtown in a prime location. The rent is probably 4x whatever a strip mall location charges. In other words, if youre looking for a $2 beer, stay in the suburbs and risk a DUI getting there. One other thing about the location is Ive met more interesting people and seen some interesting goings-on at this urban spot that youll ever find at a BW3. (Being next door to the Benson may have something to do with that) Id give the food a "7", which makes it a "9" compared to most sports bars. All in all, a great place to hang out and catch a game.

Ok place. A little pricey, but overall ok. I didnt particular like the drinks and food was so so. I tried one of their speciality drinks and it under delivered. Whiskey was mediocre at best. Very course and hard to finish. Sandwiches are somewhat dry. Not worth the price. If you are in a pinch, then this place will do.

Lots of TVs, lots of beer on tap, stadium inspired food. It is also woefully uninspired inside. Dark and danegy in some sections. No thought in the decor. There are a lot better places to watch a game in portland. It seems to be a bar for castaways from other better bar establishments.

Charging a cover for a fight is fine and all....But three and a half hours before the fight is bad business. Obviously didnt learn from the mistakes of the prior renters. Place will be closed in a year. .

Good food and prominently placed outlets so you can charge your cell phone so you have enough power to submit Google reviews like this. Lots of open space for groups.

The server was talking to the other table and kept ignoring us once our food was delivered. It took more than 30 minutes to come back and there was only one other table.

This is a sports bar. They have lots of televisions and will put on sports that youre interested in watching. Beers are overpriced ($6) and the food is mediocre.

Food is overpriced dive bar fair, service was understaffed and not great, $24 for a beer pitcher, might as well have ordered pints separately. TVs are nice.

Decent spot in downtown Portland. Beer selection is okay, but liquor selection is poor. Good happy hour Monday to Friday, but beers are still pricey.
