Large dinner portions (best in Portland unless you are impressed by the nearly-disgusting over-size of the nigiri at Saburos), skillful preparation, very reasonable prices (compared with most other Sushi spots, and especially when considering the large portions), tasteful decor and high quality ingredients make this 3-store chain my 1st choice for a mid-to-large sized Japanese dining experience. If I want quiet and absolutely authentic, Ill go to Kurata in LO. And to the people who gave 1 star in their reviews and claim that anyone giving Sinju a high rating has no idea what they are talking about: Ill put my 11 years living in Japan and my wifes Japanese citizenry up against their "extensive" sushi experiences in America any day of the week. And if you dont like the Ramen soup (your opinion) then go for the Tamen or Champon (both excellent). And no, we dont all know the owners personally anymore than anyone who eats there regularly. Moreover, nearly all the bad reviews were written 3-6 years ago. Sinju has greatly stepped-up its game since then (really there should be a time-limit on reviews to allow for management or mission statement changes).

I am a regular customer of Sinju Pearl. I eat sushi A LOT and there is no better fish quality anywhere in Portland - and some of the best anywhere in the country. I question the integrity of the negative reviews posted here because I have never had better albacore, uni or copper river salmon anywhere else. The albacore is consistently the freshest, most tender of any albacore I have been served anywhere period. Aji, uni and copper river salmon are also the very best every time I eat at Sinju. The decor is traditional Japanese and the vibe is friendly and laid back. The sushi chefs prepare each order with interesting carvings. Long and short there are some sushi places in Portland that do some things better than Sinju (trendy = Masu, low price/decent quality = Yuki, etc.), but Sinju is unquestionably the best overall and the only place I go.

My wife and I had lunch there. We both ordered the "Tuna Tower". The menu states that the dish includes crab but my wife told me we need to ask if its real crab. The waiter said that it is made with imitation "crab" and if we wanted real crab it would be an extra $4.00. Im sorry, imitation "crab" is not crab and labeling the menu as crab is simply deceptive marketing and labeling and for that reason alone I can only give one star. I dont mind paying more for quality food but dont ever attempt to deceive me if you want my business. I will NEVER eat at Sinju again! Addendum: the meal we ate was at the Bridgeport location. These restaurants are part of a chain and I doubt the practice is different between them.

My husband and I have been to Sinju three times and the sushi has been great every time. We looked at their website on a Saturday night before going and it said they had happy hour starting at 9pm on Thur, Fri, and Sat. When we got there (on a Sat night after 9pm) and asked if we need to sit in the bar for happy hour the hostess told us they dont have happy hour. It was fine with us so we sat in the restaurant and had some sushi and sapporo. I also noticed that the prices were $.50 - $1.00 lower (per roll) on the website than on the actual menu in the restaurant. Sinju we like you - just update your website and stop baiting and switching us with happy hour!

I took my girlfriend and her two friends here for Valentines day. They did not take reservations for 7 PM so I was a little worried, but I decided to give it a try. We got right in and service was great. The sushi was very fresh and unique! Their specialty rolls were delicious and fairly priced! We ordered 7 rolls (we were very hungry), 2 large Sapporo, and two desserts for just a little over $100. I had no problem paying this much for quality sushi. The mango mousse was to die for! They even had booths with doors on them for extra privacy. I would highly recommend this beautiful sushi place.

This place amazing as I grew up but over the last two years, or so, I would have to say the quality is declining. The teriyaki chicken used to be my favorite but now it tastes as bland and salty as cheep resort food. There sushi is good, I have never gotten sick off of it, and there Vagus rolls are the best I have ever had (think this might have to do with the amount of time they keep the grease around). There customer service also has been hit or miss, if you eat during there happy hour they seem decent but if you hit them when they are just a little bust they are vary impolite.

The sushi bar had the fish on display, and all was fresh-cut when you order. The sushi chefs were friendly and talkative while they worked, and the services/food were as expected. Costs were higher than similar sushi places for essentially the same thing (i.e. 2 pieces with sashimi or nigiri, typically youll see 3 sashimi or 2 nigiri). I had an overpriced sake sampler as well. The three I tried came on a sculpture-holder, and cost about $15. Not terrible, but I was still thirsty afterwards. Worth a try if youre in the area.

Very accessible style of sushi, so you can count of california, lion, philly type rolls is thats your speed. They also have a great selection of non-traditional options (i.e. battered and fried rolls). The nigiri is spot on as well, so while the general selection isnt overly authentic, the quality of food and service is excellent. The happy hour is nothing exceptional, but it works in a pinch if youre in the area and looking for an adult beverage after work.

The miso soup was the absolute best I have ever had in my life! The salad was extremely fresh but honestly didnt taste like an Asian salad (still good, but unexpected). The chefs special 9 piece sushi platter was great! However we did not start from the correct side so the flavors were all mixed up, that was on us though. Delicious, fun, accommodating, and a wonderful server. Would recommend!

Great sushi. Nice and relaxed atmosphere. My server, Patrick, was great. Last time I was there, they had a spicy margarita on the menu which sounded good but which I did not care for. Patrick had warned me about it and offered to exchange it for something else when I said it was "...interesting" but I declined. If Im ever in Portland again, I would not hesitate to come back!

Delight. The first thing that happens when you come in is you are greeted generously by almost everyone in the restaurant. What set this place from anywhere else is the interior decor. I had a server that was really attentive and introduced us to some great sushi specials. Food was some of the best Ive ever had. I am definitely going to go there regularly.

The space is very pretty, and included a private room with traditional table and sliding screens, though it was awkward because it was decently large and yet deserted. The service was decent. Unfortunately, this is the worst sushi Ive had in PDX. Not fresh enough (not surprising since they were empty at the dinner hour) and just blah. I wont be back.
