Cramped restaurant with ok service. It helps if you make a reservation ahead of time, but dont expect too much after you sit down. Ive been to Okazu Ya twice for birthday parties and I am still not 100% impressed with the overall package of this place. The food may be delicious and the prices may be inexpensive, but service definitely adds/subtracts whether you will return again. The first time I came here, service was fast. A group of friends and I sat down, orders were taken and food was served on our table within 30 minutes. Drinks were refilled without a problem. However, the second time I came here left me skeptical. I came here with another group of friends on a Saturday evening. The place was packed and it was tricky to move around. The table was all the way in the back and I definitely felt cramped in my seat. After sitting down, the waiter came to take our orders: two orders of sashimi, two sushi rolls, two ramen bowls and one beef teriyaki order. Thirty minutes later, sashimi orders arrive. After ten minutes, sushi rolls, one ramen bowl and the beef teriyaki arrive. The second ramen bowl was my order and it didnt arrive even after inquiring about it to two waiters. After another 20 minutes, my order arrived. And when my order arrived, all my friends were done eating whereas I started. Awkwardness aside, the service was ok. I understand it was a busy Saturday evening, but cmon. I waited almost an hour for my food to arrive and its because the first waiter only gave one order of ramen instead of two. Will I come back? Maybe. Ive only gone twice, food is good and inexpensive, but like I said before, service definitely adds/subtracts whether you will return and that mattered to me.

This place is very run of the mill generic Japanese food. While its probably not the worst that Ive had I dont think theres anything to make this place stand out. Went here a few weeks ago and had horrible service. The menu was sticky, food was cold, fish wasnt fresh. I ordered the soft shelled crab/grilled salmon dinner box and the crab came cold (I dont know when it was fried). I will never go here again. You might as well hit up safeway for some pre-packed sushi. Same quality. I guess I cant really expect much from a Chinese owned and operated Japanese restaurant.

Theyre getting one star because their food & price are pretty good & reasonable. BUT their service needs a lot of improvement. Ive been a long time customer there, & finally, Ive just had enough. You can easily wait for eternity w/out getting your order taken, but youll notice that someone who came into to the restaurant AFTER you will have his/her order taken. Also, through my observation, they tend to cater to white (looking) people. Im never going back to that place! Its not worth the stress of wondering whether youll be served or not.

This place has just about anything you can order at a Japanese restaurant in the States, and the quality ranges from decent to pretty good. The sushi in particular is generously portioned with thick slices of fish. The freshness varies, but thats generally the case with any restaurant that serves a wide variety. The big downside is that the restaurant can get very busy (for example, we waited over 45 minutes for a takeout order), and as a result, the service can suffer. But thats also a sign of its popularity.

I have been coming here for 25 years and even though we have moved 30 minutes away, it is still our top choice for sushi. We especially love their butterfish dish and the fact that our family can eat a really fulfilling meal there without going into debt! As a California roll and kani lover, I judge sushi places by whether they use real crab and how much they charge for it. Their crab is always real, fresh and reasonable. Go!

Nice, lively, Japanese place thats good for a weekday family outing. Their rolls are quite nice, and the bento boxes are a great deal for people that dont like raw fish cuisine. It sometimes gets a bit busy, but Ive never had a problem with lagging service. Staff are polite and friendly. I go back here every now and again and its always a nice experience, and a good value.

Ive been coming to this restaurant since I was a child. Michael is dedicated to great flavors! Sushi rolls (all types!), raw oysters, and any of the fried fish dishes are a must. Its not the best decorated, but you feel at home. And Michael and his crew are always welcoming and friendly. Its great food and portions for a great price.

This restaurant has good Japanese food. I like the stuff they have on the whiteboard. I usually get the chilean sea bass and the dragon roll (with no avocado). I kind wish that they list the prices on the sushi list. Most of the stuff on the whiteboard come on a sizzling hot plate with a bowl of rice, miso soup, and ice cream.

1st. The service is great. Very fast, friendly, and efficient. They make you feel like your a long time customer. 2nd. The sushi quality is A+!!! Simply fresh and delicious. 3rd. The pricing is extremely fair and I feel we get more for our dollar here than other sushi restaurants. 4th. Just go already. Its very very good.

Good food and large portions!!! First time here and it was good. This place is packed and it looks like they dont take reservations. So you have to put your name on a list and they will call you when they have space. I would definitely return to this place.

Extremely affordable sushi. Love on fire roll was delicious but pretty spicy. Waiter did not show us their sushi check list when we first ordered, so we ended up ordering normal sushi first. Also really nice to get free green tea. Definitely going back

Okazu Ya Taraval is always the best!!! I have been going there throughout my entire life. It is consistently fresh, flavorful, and healthy with a friendly and cozy atmosphere. My favorite restaurant in San Francisco, a true local spot.

The Chilean Sea Bass was really the highlight of the meal. However, Im used to cheap sushi and cheap food in general that $20 for a dish really kills me. If youre willing to pay the price, the food is fresh and good!

This place is of the the chain. It has dope prices and chronic taste. It is sure to keep you out of your hood and in to the grubs. Dont forget to ask for their dank alcohol menu. West West Yall. Okazu Ya fo Life.

Great local restaurant. There are better ramen places and there are better sushi places, but this is a really really good local choice. Ramen was good, sushi was good. Menu was confusing for a white guy...

Love the neighborhood sushi place. Theyve been around for quite some time and usually can remember you after 2-3 visits. Not a fancy place by any means...but def a good place for normal sushi stuff

Very fresh fish, good selection of sushi and ramen. You gonna try the chefs special sashimi! Usually the fish is freshly bought from the market in that morning by the chef!

Hole in the wall Japanese restaurant, that has incredibly fresh fish and the amazing sizzling cast iron plates entrees. The place doesnt break the bank either.

Wife and I enjoyed a weekday dinner here. Very friendly staff and the portions were good. They had some unique sushi pieces with caviar and quail egg.
