My experience was a disappointing one, me and my husband went to this place on Wed July 22, and they did not open until 4:30 that day, we were the first customers there that day, and they sat us at the hibachi grill on the side at the end of the table, since we were the only ones there at the time, we decided to move to the front of the grill so that we can see it better, about 15 mins later we were told to moved back to the side of the table for a party of 6 family members, but i did not want to move because we were there first and should get first pick, I was even willing to move to the end so that the family would not be split, that was not good enough for the manager Gina, she was very unprofessional and have no customer service skills at all. Of course we were black and the family was white, now i am not saying this was about race, because it was NOT about race, however it was about the way we were treated as paying customers, I ask gina why did we have to move we are paying customers as well and she did not do anything to rectify the situation, all she did was ask us did we want private seating, if i wanted private seating i would have asked for that, I wanted the grill. what she should have done, is to let the family wait for the next seating, or have us to join another grill with the others who had the front available which at the time it was, because other customers come in seated at another grill where we could have join and have perfect seating, but gina as a manager did not care at all and really did not care if we would have left the building, so my advice is to send this manager for more customer service skills so that she can know how to handle a situation like this again. I would not come back until they do something about the way we were treated by this manger GINA.

Our waitress took forever to come to the table. Our appetizers arrived after we were done eating our entree. And one of our meals did not even arrive, until 15 minutes after we were all done eating. Not one person came to clear off any of our empty plates or refill waters. We asked to see the manager, he NEVER arrived. I followed him thru the restaurant and asked to speak to him at our table. So he could see that we were all ready to LEAVE, but one of us did not even have his meal yet. He then came to our table and we told him about the horrible service... he was useless and gave an excuse about being to busy. Well, we are a group of Doctors from the local hospital. We are too busy to waste our money on bad service. We will not be back. As we all waited for our separate checks, which by the way were completely messed up, the three surrounding tables were all complaining about how horrible the service and management are....but the food is good. So they occasionally come. I give it one star for the food. It was good, but we need an experience when we dine. Not an aggravated manager and disgruntled employees. I dont give ANY stars for the manager Tom who was beyond useless. I suppose Tom the manager has gotten so many complaints each night, he is use to customer complaints and just doesnt care. Its not like he owns the place..... he gets his paycheck.

I am mostly writing this, not just for my family, but for the other customers we shared a grill with at Yamato. The restaurants unwillingness to accommodate to their customers in anyway is beyond me. So much so that it made the whole table feel uncomfortable and almost as if we were a burden. All the other woman at the table wanted to do was order an extra entree for her to take to her mother, but she would box it herself and just preferred it cooked fresh. The server claimed the head chef said they would not to do that for her because the table was full. I pointed out that there was one extra seat at the table and so the table would then actually be full with her order. They still did not allow this. So she chose her mothers meal to be cooked instead of hers. She sat there the entire time eating no food, only the soup she offered to additionally pay for until her moms meal was cooked and then she boxed it up and spoke of going to panera to get a bite to eat. The gas smell at the table was so intense that it was making my son sick. My filet was very thin and under cooked as well as my shrimp. This restaurant is poorly managed and I will never eat at yamato again. There are many other options in ocala for good hibachi. I would also like to add that having rice in salt shakers at the table, or anywhere, is a health code violation.

I called in a reservation for 17 co-workers one day in advance. The manager was hesitant to take the reservation, but did so. He explained we would not be seated until ALL party members arrived. We were ALL in the lobby PRIOR to the scheduled reservation time, but was not seated until 20 minutes later. At that point, 2 servers and 2 cooks were assigned to help us. 1/2 the table received service right away, while the other half waited and additional 30 minutes to just get drinks. This was disappointing as we were ONE group together. I brought this to the attention of the manager on duty and explained we were disappointed. He seemed bothered and did not offer anything, including a simple apology. The bill was close to $700 and we will not be returning. The restaurant had plenty of open seating, but appeared to be under staffed.

Went here on my birthday, you need to buy one entree and the second one (lesser value) is free but they charge 18% tip based on both entrees. Never mind the money, the chicken teriyaki was tasteless and felt stale. We forgot to order with fried rice instead of steam rice. When the server came with the food, we asked to change to fried rice and were bluntly denied. Come on, its not like they made the rice specifically for us, they cannot switch a bowl of rice? We ended up with $20 bill (after birthday discount) and I think that $20 is better spent elsewhere.

I was so afraid to try Yamato because of the negative reviews but Yamato earned every single star!! The restaurant was clean, it smelled great, and the food was amazing! The chef did a great job of blending his skills with conversation and he was especially attentive to our children. The portions were generous and we have plenty of food for lunch tomorrow. Thank you Yamato for a lovely evening! When I find my camera cord, I will eagerly upload a picture. :)
