The food was okay - ordered a sushi plate. Not the freshest fish Ive tasted but definitely not the worst. The service, though... It was not only terrible but just plain strange. The server (who we think might have been the owner, as he was the only server present) seemed friendly enough at first, but his interactions with us over the course of our visit were just so awkward and unpleasant we just wanted to get out of there ASAP. He seemed to be very thrown off by the kitchen employees willingness to help us (the staff behind the sushi prep bar were very friendly and the only reason for any stars at all). We found his behavior not just rude but bizarrely controlling, with his seeming refusal to even let us get out of our seat at one point, putting a blocking hand up in my boyfriends face, WAY too far in his personal space. It was probably the weirdest and worst experience at a restaurant that my boyfriend and I have ever had. The sushi chefs were friendly and helpful. We definitely caught them looking like they werent enjoying working here though. Hope they can find a nicer place to work, soon.

Ordered through Uber eats. I was very disappointed with the food. The sushi was presented well but the sushi itself was poorly done. The Pink Dragon was tolerable but not for 15$. The crab on top was very dry and tasted like imitation. Nothing wrong with imitation but if Im paying $15 for a roll I expect it to be real crab. The Gekikara Teka was supposed to be spicy tuna but there was no spice on it and I think we were given regular tuna order instead. The California roll was tolerable but they do not have cream cheese as an ingredient in it. I have never had it without and was surprised to see they dont use cream cheese. The Salmon Skin was disgusting! All I could taste was salt salt salt. Will never order salmon skin anywhere again. I cannot see how anyone could like it but maybe its a required taste? Spider roll was okay but thats it. I wont be ordering from here again. Maybe Ill try the portland location and see if any better. But for $50 I got twice as much food and better quality food at Idea sushi.

I kept wanting it to work, for 6+ years now. Despite several interior overhauls, it never quite has. Tonights sushi rice had a spackle-like starchy component. The tobiko tasted like fresh roe (yay!) marinated in Cheerios (not yay). Several of the seaweed-wrapped roll pieces were attached to each other, such that picking up one piece caused both it and its neighbors wraps to unwind. I have quite literally NEVER had that happen. In years past, the service was sometimes iffy, sometimes embarrassingly bad: Im talking hidden-camera prank-show bad. Id wonder, are they REALLY this terrible, or am I trapped in an MTV time warp?? Tonight the service was very good. Prices were average, and would be worthwhile for prompt, capable sushi with correct textures and temperatures (the unagi was almost BELOW room temperature, somehow). I do not expect to return. Its not so much "Fool me twice, shame on me" as "Tantalize me a dozen times, why dont I quit already." So, I quit.

This place used to be a top notch sushi joint when Koji was still on board. Several years ago, it was sold to new management and, unfortunately, it has been entirely lackluster ever since. The food isnt bad, most nights. Standard sushi fare with plenty of other hot offerings, the prices arent bad. Too bad the quality varies drastically from night to night, from very good to unacceptably bad, but its more bad than good, these days. The service ranges from mediocre to insultingly poor - even when the restaurant is empty, you will have inexplicable waits and dismissive treatment from the waitstaff. The new renovations have given the place an odd, unappealing, sterile vibe. We used to visit monthly, and we kept giving it a chance. But after several misses in a row, we wont be back. A real shame. There are FAR better Japanese offerings just a few minutes beyond in SW Portland. Dont waste your time here.

This Osakaya has nothing to do with the "Koji Osakaya" chain in Portland. It is owned and operated by a nice Japanese couple who devote themselves solely to this location. The sushi chef is also from Japan. Osakayas food is excellent. I lived in Tokyo for five years and I was so happy to discover it and find my favorites from there tasting the same here. The sushi is very good - I especially love the "Dynamite Roll" with hamachi, tobiko and a creamy spicy sauce and the "Godzilla Roll" with salmon and tuna. The combinations are a great value. The sauteed ribeye beef and tempura are excellent. My kids love the tonkatsu curry and the tanin donburi. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to enjoy a wide selection of Japanese food at a very reasonable price and in a pleasant atmosphere.

Despite the bad reviews this place has, I have nothing but good things to say about Kojis. I came here last night with friends and had a great time! Our server took awesome care of us and we were never waiting even a second for anything, as she communicated with us very well. The food was good, sushi was fine for Pacific Northwest standards. Server joked with us and we felt like friends, and I managed to leave my card on accident at the table and the server came running out to give it back to me. She was light hearted though and obviously didnt mind going out of her way to help. Ill be making another trip to Kojis soon.

Over the past 15 years, weve been coming here on occasion; its one of the three or four places to go for Japanese food done right. The hamachi nigiri was great on our last visit, ramen was excellent, and the curry is right up there. The decor is getting old with 2 CRT TVs (no giant LCD TVs) but whos complaining when the food is this good? Previously, Ive had the spider roll (soft shell crab) here, which is the best in town, and the oyako donburi here is excellent. Its worth the drive into Johns Landing, compared to some of the places in downtown.

The set up had changed since our last visit. The upper booth area had been eliminated, which is one reason we drove there for. The place smelled and did not look clean. There was barely any leg room and as a party of 5, I was kinda in the corner of the table with any arm room. Feels more like bar with a sushi menu. 2 stars without trying the food because we walked out due to the discomfort

Above average Japanese cuisine in a comfortable atmosphere. This is a great spot to get sushi, noodles, yakitori or a variety of other Japanese dishes served by very friendly people in a comfortable and casual setting. Drinks are cold and Happy Hour is great. Theres also a fair amount of parking as well.

The restaurant was dead, our server was unattentive and the food came slow. We ordered a sesame Donburi bowl and a deluxe sushi assortment. The fish did not taste fresh. .. My first experience here and from reading the ratings I was surprised by how popular this place seemed. Mediocre sushi place.
