This may be a case of overly high hopes. Or, I just may not understand gourmet. I went to this restaurant for dinner and was underwhelmed. I had the Caesar Salad (it had a fancier name) and the Pollo with Tiramisu for dessert. The salad was good but I do not understand why the lettuce was not cut up better? It was full, long leafs of Romaine. I have never seen a salad served that was obviously impossible to eat without cutting up yourself- am I missing something? I also dont understand the large slices of parmesan on top instead of grating it. It was really annoying having to basically finish preparing the salad. The chicken was oven roasted and served on a bed of steamed spinach with a pumpkin sauce. The chicken was good- cooked through but moist- but it was basically just fried chicken without the bones. It didnt strike me as Italian either and Ive been to northern Italy. The spinach was tasty and so was the sauce. I was expecting a flavor explosion of some sort and didnt really get it. It was good but nothing special and definitely nothing to look forward to eating again. The tiramisu was decent but again, not spectacular. I dont think there is such a thing as bad tiramisu so this is impossible to judge. Overall, it was a decent restaurant but with so many choices in downtown Portland I dont see the need to go again.

Consistently one of my favorite lunch spots in Portland! You get so much bang for your buck here. Its predominantly a soup/sandwich/salad spot, complete with coffee bar. Their menu changes daily; a new soup and sandwich each day. Rarely have I had anything here I didnt love. The space is pretty minimal / no-frills. Self-serve water, grab your own utensils, etc. I always enjoy watching people come in there who seem to have never experienced a meal where a server doesnt take care of everything. "I have to get my own water?" I once heard. Yes, maam. Sometimes people get things for themselves. Notes: -Try the 3 salad combo plate (things like tuna salad, beet salad, pasta salad, etc.) -Usually have a daily rotating juice with some great combos (melon/mint... lavender lemonade?!) -Perhaps the best grilled cheese in town -You can buy full loaves of their bread (baked fresh daily) -Yummy morning pastries, though I much prefer them for lunch Be wary: lunch items are not out until 11:30pm and once theyve sold out of an item, theyre out. They can get quite the line between 12:00 - 1:00, as the business lunch crowd are frequent visitors. Im salivating and ready for some Pazzoria.

For a hotel restaurant, it was as expected. I was exhausted from a business trip and neither my colleague nor I were up for researching exceptional places for food. I had been here before at a previous hotel stay for breakfast and couldnt remember anything offensive. FOOD: I had the wild boar ragu with pappardelle pasta and it was pretty good. The pasta was actually pretty amazing in terms of texture and flavor; the ragu was fine. SERVICE: Though I informed the server of a tree nut allergy, he served us a trio of bread that included walnut bread. To his credit, he did ask if it was okay that it was touching the walnut bread as he was serving it, but it was admittedly annoying that it was brought out to begin with. ATMOSPHERE:I think the atmosphere theyre going for is a cozy, but as tired as I was from traveling it just came off as dark and nap-inducing. In the light of day, its still pretty dark even with the windows open.

Just had dinner the other night -wanted to try it since Pazzo got many decent reviews. The atmosphere is really nice, but the food was not really good. I order the Gnocchi for $25 and it was really salty, thought the sauce had a burnt taste and it was really rich. My husband ordered the Tagliatelle for $23 and for a man that loves his pasta and had not eaten all day he didnt like it either (he had a few bites). The only thing we really enjoyed was the Natalino (creaser salad) but, I couldnt believe that they charged us extra to split the plates! We also ordered garlic bread but instead got grilled bread (no garlic) and were charged $3. We dont plan on going back as the food and service was not all that! We dont mind being charged for quality food but this is not quality and felt that we were nickeled and dimed which does not encourage returning customers! I suggest going to Ava Genes (worth the wait and money!)

We went here for dinner, and the service wasnt what I expected. Not that I wanted the server to wait on us hand and foot, but I think he could have done a better job with serving us. Then when the food came it was nice, but my tuna was seared not grilled. The middle was uncooked, which I dont have an issue with, but would have liked to known that before ordering it. Also my wifes meal (Gnocci) had hair in it. She said something and sent it back. They brought it back so fast, I think they: A. Took off the cheese with the hair and replaced it with more cheese, or B. Got a new plate and scooped the Gnocci from a pot where theyve had it sitting for days. The manager did not do anything about the hair. I think for the amount of money we spent at this restuarant there should have been more done.

Ate here for my girlfriends birthday and did the "Dine Out In Portland" deal for $30 a person because a single dish was going to cost around $6 or $7 less anyway. We got a 3 course meal. Her risotto was pretty soggy and my cioppino was extremely salty and all around not very good. The food was pretty pricy and what we got was bland and forgettable. Not sure if this had anything to do with the deal we did, but I probably wouldnt eat here again. The wine was delcious and they have a pretty large selection that is presented to you via iPad, which was a nice touch. The service wasnt as bad as Ive read, the lady that helped us just felt like one of the people we showed up with, and was extremely laid back and helpful. Definitely not worth the $80 or so for two.

From across the country I scheduled an evening reception here for a group of 21. We originally wanted the wine cellar space but that was booked. Hotel Vintage Plazas very helpful catering manager, Heather, suggested the Pazzoria, which closes at 4pm, and would be available as a private space. It ended up being the perfect spot, cozy and rustic. Everyone had great things to say about the food and wine, especially Pazzorias fresh baked bread with olive oil and the Fattoria Chianti. The groups server was knowledgeable and very helpful. Follow-up was also very good from the catering office. We will definitely use the Pazzoria again for future events in Portland.

Consistent excellence. During a stay at the Vintage Plaza Hotel upstairs, we had breakfast and dinner here for 4+ days. All meals were superbly cooked and presented; the cioppino, roasted chicken, and NY steak are consistently excellent. The Caesar salad also great. Ditto the omelette and scrambled eggs for b-fast. Major kudos to the manager/cooks because its so hard to be consistently excellent, specially when compared to the atrocious dinner we had at another very pricey Italian restaurant that was even worse than the mediocre garbage "cooked" at Nicks Cafe in McMinnville.
