I have been eating here for years. Ill be the first to admit, I have a taste for bad chinese food and Metro has always hit the spot. I ate here yesterday and I think I was so thoroughly disgusted that I may not return. The service is always fine, the price is decent really the only topic to complain about here is the food. I bit into a piece of "general" chicken had to spit it out because it was like biting into a piece of waterlogged Cedar River driftwood. I grabbed a couple pieces of sushi. Im used to the brown colored avocado, I can even gulp down a piece of sushi with dried out rice. This is nothing new at Metro, but something just tasted very wrong in one piece and I had to just let all fall out of my mouth. Regardless of whether this restaurant has a clean kitchen, uses expired ingredients, serves non-fresh food, to me, its thoroughly disappointing that whoever runs this restaurant cares so little about serving food worth serving to the public. Metro has absolutely zero standard for serving decent food any more. Im not asking much here...like I said I actually like crappy chinese food. I guess I just dont want to feel like Im eating trash is what Im trying to say. Peking in Iowa City has the whole "crappy chinese buffet" thing down. Take a lesson from them maybe? They couldnt hack it on fast foot alley (Blairs Ferry Rd.) and I wouldnt be surprised if the ex-Dennys location is next to tumble. Theyd better start caring about serving decent food before its too late.

This place is pretty horrible, went in to get a couple to go boxes for me and my fiance and the woman at the front desk gave me a box, told me it was priced by weight (usually what most places do). As Im putting our dinners together I wandered to the sushi area and placed a few pieces in a box the woman from the front desk runs to me telling me its priced by peice even tho she didnt tell me that beforehand and what was left on the sushi bar was pretty much the leftover before closing so it looked pretty rough and will probably be tossed , I tell her ok and Im guessing her husband or owner comes out and says something to her in Chinese, so rudely she throws her hands up in the air and says "whatever!" I felt embarrassed in front of the entire restaurant due to this womans reaction. I went to pay for the boxes of food which is a box (not overfilled or anything crazy, just dry peices of chicken and a few crab ragoons) and 5 peices of dry sushi in the other box she charges me 17 bucks. I get it back to our hotel room so we can eat and try the first peice of sushi and the crab tastes rotten. The rest of the food is so dry and hard we didnt even want it. I know Chinese buffets are not supposed to give you the cream of the crop food but it would be nice to be able to have something edible.

This place is my go to for Chinese buffet in Cedar Rapids (keep in mind there is only two), it has a very large selection of food including some good old American dishes so it is kid friendly in terms of selection. The salad bar is pretty nice and the food has generally always been hot. Expecting fresh food at every minute from a buffet is.. silly. Should the food be cold? No. But should it be out of the oven fresh? No, go to a normal restaurant if you are looking for food made to order. I have ate at this place during both lunch and dinner hours and its a great atmosphere. The ONLY reason I am taking off a star is because of my own issue, their kimchi. I know this is a Chinese restaurant, but using black pepper to make the kimchi "spicier" is really not a great idea. Kimchi is very easy to make, has a long life in the fridge, and is a delicious side dish to many of the foods they serve. I really hope they decide to put out real kimchi as its something that reminds me of home. I was so excited when I found this place to have some kimchi because I was so home sick at the time, but I was disappointed when it wasnt properly prepared kimchi.

Located on Blairs Ferry Road, this is the best and tastiest restaurant within miles! In one evening meal I literally got a ribeye steak cooked exactly as I like it, crab legs with melted butter, sushi with caviar, and roast duck. (Yes, I can put a lot away at a time). This is in addition to many other delicious offerings, I have eaten there at least once a week for at least three years now. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I always wonder how their prices (evening is about $12 for adults, less for children) can pay for the ingredients they offer. There is a 10% discount for seniors. Hot tea is free. I genuinely love this place.

My husband got the sweet and sour chicken. He was ok until a piece of chicken he was chewing had a funky taste to it and hurt his tooth. Most of the food choices were almost gone and then we found out that they werent going to put any more food out because we were advised that they were going to be closing. After that my husband suggested to me that I shouldnt eat anymore unless I wanted to get sick later. I had a bad stomach ache most of the night and the next morning my husband had the same thing. We spent 29.00 on the buffet and the only thing we ended up eating was an ice cream cone. Sad...

The food isnt TOO bad, but the service is awful. The food tends to be not-so-fresh. The people are difficult to understand, and every time they have gone here they have become upset in some way towards us. The first time it was fairly late, and they kept trying to rush us out the door when they werent even closing! Another time we went, it was close to dinner, and I said, we will pay the dinner price, because we were a few minutes early and they went AWAL when I wanted to eat some of the sushi. I do not think the price is worth it.

On 33rd Ave the cashiers are so rude. One of them actually got into an argument with a customer and came out of her mouth to say she is sick of stupid Americans. To me they have dry Sushi and some really good food, but bad attitude towards some of their customers. Customer service sucks but food is good and I think they know that. I have never eaten at the blairsferry location but will be soon just to check out the atmosphere.I also dont like being watched when I go to the buffet a second or third time.

We were originally going to Ryans buffet but they were "sold out". Our family was very hungry so we found another buffet quickly. The food was under mediocre and barely fresh. Several times I saw them mixing the "fresh" pan with the old food that had already been sitting there. Really just no concept of discarding old food, they just let it sit there. The food was overall greasy and seasoned weird. It sufficed to cure us of our hunger, but I would never go back. Would not recommend.
