We got together with friends last evening for another trip to El Dorado. Our first experience here was, unfortunately, a subpar lunch with a very mediocre burrito for me and a lack luster chimichanga for my wife - unexpectedly, we were pleasantly surprised by round two. Apparently theyre under new management and it definitely shows. The ambiance was very nice for dinner. We met up with friends with a couple young children and were seated very quickly. There was plenty of room at the booths and very attentive wait staff. The gentleman that helped us last night made some great recommendations on fajitas and carne asada as well as let us know about all the specials ($2.50 margaritas on Fridays!). He was at our table just the right amount throughout the evening and made sure we had plenty of chips, salsa and water for the entirety of our stay! As for the food, we were pleasantly and delightfully surprised at the quality, timeliness, and amount of food! My wife had the "flat quesadilla" which was a solid variation on the classic offering! The meat was excellent, the cheese plentiful and it was cut into nice finger food size bites. I had the "Mar Y Tierra" fajitas and have to say, they were the best Ive had in the area. The combination of land and sea animals dancing on my palate was fantastic and the guacamole delightful as well! The only problem with the meal was that there were not enough tortillas for the amount of food available and luckily, its an easy fix. Our friends had classic fajitas and carne asada, both of which were well done and plentiful in amount. The lime margaritas that we all enjoyed were very good, with just the right amount of salt on the glass and large enough that one lasted the entire meal for me. The food was plentiful enough that we didnt have dessert, though I saw some different delicacies running around that we plan to try in the future. Overall, we were impressed with the second round at El Dorado. ed written them off, but based on our experience last night, we were flat wrong. This was better traditional Mexican food than most of the places in the area - and weve been looking, but it still falls short of great.

Promptly seated by one person, brought chips and salsa by another and drinks by a third. All in the first minute. Took 25 minutes after ordering to get food on this not-so-busy night. Maybe some foh people can cook...? Burnt chips, bland salsa, boring, overcooked (reheated?) fajitas. Dry rice. Yuk. Beans were good and drink refills prompt. So get the beans and a drink and you will be fine.

I came here while visiting from out of town because some friends highly recommended it and I was not disappointed. The interior was relatively simple, but the service was quick and friendly. The house salsa was pretty good and I also tried the seafood enchiladas. The rice and beans that came with it were pretty standard fair, but the enchiladas were amazing.

The salsas was frozen, the chips were tasteful. When the food came, i ordered a cocktail and it had about 4 pieces of shrimp. Had no flavor. My cousin ordered some tacos and the meat was all gross and black looking. The only goos thing we had was the beer

Came for kids eat free saturday. Highly disappointed. Sign doesnt say age or that its one kids per adult. Also only off jus menu.. Then I order margarita only to be told its 599 he list off flavors then tells me 1 more for flavor. Kinda high but OK.

It isnt great. Its tex mex food. There are other restaurants that make it taste wonderful. Ive been here a couple of times and each experience wasnt great. The environment is friendly but the food isnt very tasty.

Servers were rude. Portions were tiny. Food was BAD Tex-Mex, even for this area. And I was told that a bean burrito was no different from a beef burrito. In taste, price, or anything else.

Best Mexican restaurant in the Iowa City/Coralville area that Ive come across. Always has great service, food, drinks, and the food comes out quickly. Definitely would recommend!
