We were looking for a reliable Chinese *takeout* place. This place seemed to meet all of the signature criteria of the best takeout places: nondescript name ("Whats that place that has awesome Chinese takeout--Tasty China?" "No, thats not it...I think its just called Chinese Food Place". "Nah, isnt it Taste of China or something like that?" "No thats not it either...whatever, its the Chinese place right next to Hy-Vee!" "Oh yeah, that one."), hole-in-the-wall feel with seating available for waiting (I always find it curious when people dine-in at these types of places...I mean, you *can* technically, but those folks are missing the beauty and speedy convenience of takeout Chinese), and pop for purchase by the can from the fridge--classic! I had my hopes up for Taste of China, because it met these criteria which are the hallmark of classic, awesome Chinese takeout places...but then I tasted the food. It wasnt bad. It wasnt good either. Let me put it this way--it is clear that they do not use MSG in their food. That is a plus on the health-side. However, there was literally no taste. Its a scientific anomaly. Its like they actually extracted the flavor OUT of the spicy sesame chicken--the texture was totally fine, the presentation was exactly what I expected from a takeout tupperware container...it just had no taste. Of the sesame chicken, I could not even say, "Hmmm...tastes like chicken." I dont know how that is even possible, but that was my first experience here--and a disappointing one. We may give it another shot since people apparently are ga-ga over their sweet & sour chicken. We had the lo mein (i.e., textured, flavorless noodles), sesame chicken or something like that which was supposed to be spicy (it was not), and my in-laws had something weird that Id never had before that was also bland. Pros: must not use MSG; reasonably priced; nondescript name so I will forget I ever ate from here Cons: made me feel like I had just ordered french fries with no salt...ever tried that? Its horrible. Why the hell would you order fries with no salt? If my second go here is any better, then I will post an update.

First time ordering from here. Ordered cashew shrimp, cashew chicken, and crab rangoon for take-out. They made the entrees with peanuts instead of cashews! Of course I did not realize this until I got home and unpacked the order, and by that point I was not going to drive back 25 min. round trip so they could fix it . Crab rangoon was rubbery. I think well take our business somewhere else next time.

The food is delicious! Although the decor isnt that welcoming, you just have to overlook that. The food is what matters most, am I right!? I highly recommend the sweet and sour chicken and the fried rice. Super super yummy and feeds our family of 4. Definite recommend 5/5 best place to go for real Chinese.

Just picked up my food, it was like 3 days old. You can automatically tell the noodles where really dark not even brown, the brócoli was soggy and old, the rice was hard only the sesame chicken was okay. Learned my lesson never going back! Why do they even have a store If they cant keep it good quality.

Great quality American-Style Chinese Food. Fresh veggies. Not a place to take a date, but a great take-out place--ready in 10 minutes. You really cannot beat it for this style of food.

This is our go-to place for Chinese take out. Not a fancy restaurant; just delicious, made to order dishes that are ready in 10 minutes. Very friendly staff and a clean establishment.

Decor is bland, food isnt. Lunch specials 10:30-3:00, plenty of choices under $6. Cheaper than HyVee next door, and its the real thing made to order, not sitting in a warmer for hours.

Mediocre. The food is okay for the price, but I can get twice as much for just about the same price and quality from Hyvee. It tastes okay, but nothing remarkable.

This is by far the best Chinese in the Iowa City area. Dont let the old school look of the dining area fool you. The food is unrivaled.

Food was very bland. Crab Rangoon didnt have very much filling at all. The only Good part of my meal was the hot and spicy soup!

Singapore mei fun tastes amazing. Rangoons are more like plain cream cheese than crab flavored
