Earlier this Spring, we were going out on a bit of a family adventure and wanted to eat someplace good and simple on our way North out of town. Hey, I know, a diner!! Looked up diners and found this place. From then on, it was all downhill. This was a Saturday morning, late, so we had to wait for a table, which was no big deal. We ordered and waited. As we waited, we watched most of the room get their food and leave. Some even came in after us! We asked our waitress, Savannah, about it, and she went to bat for us. Unfortunately, even though she argued our case, we finally talked to the manager, Ashley. This was after 45 minutes, BTW. Ashley, opened with excuses about being busy, blah blah blah. I told her we didnt want excuses, we wanted our food. The only good thing she did to handle the situation was to comp our entire order. Of course she couldnt come and tell us she took that action, we only found out when another staff member was taking our money on the way out. Suffice to say, unless our memories fail us, we will never be back. Savannah, if you read this, youre great. Get yourself a job at a nicer place and enjoy the tips.

My husband was craving a burger, and it dawned on me that Id heard in the past that this place has great ones. So, we ventured out. You have to walk down a hallway of a hotel, and my skepticism increased the further down the hotel I walked. But, once we reached the restaurant, it was really nice. We were greated and seated promptly by a very friendly young lady. She asked if we wanted a booth or a table. Our server (Tracy) greeted us promptly to get our drink orders. Service was timely, and she made sure our drinks were refilled the whole time we sat there. Our burgers were cooked to order and were accurate. I have found that normally when a restaurant gives you a choice on how you want your burger cooked, they still cook it how they want it. Burgers, onion rings and fries were all good. We had a good experience and will be back.

My husband and I were wanting to go out to breakfast and try to support a semi-local place. Being new to town we decided to try the Diner. Big mistake. I ordered a fruit smoothie, which instead of just having yogurt as an ingredient, the whole thing was basically just a cup of yogurt poured into a glass and charged $4 bucks for it. Meanwhile my husband ordered a $1.5 glass of chocolate milk, and when it came out, we could clearly see all the syrup at the bottom of the glass. Our eggs were bland and the butter on our toast was congealed. I would not ever go there again or recommend it to anyone else. I havent even written a review before, but I just had to warn people after this awful food experience. It should have been a sign when the Village Inn across the street was packed with cars and ours had only five.

Homey food with a small town vibe. We went on a Friday night around 7:30. We had no wait. When we walked in, every customer stared at us, just like in a small town. The food is very traditional with breakfast all day. We had a raspberry shake, beer, the Reuben, the goober burger and potato cakes. The shake was amazing! We would go back just to get a shake. The sandwiches were very good as well. There is a large selection with something for everyone. Its definitely a place to take the family and not some cutesy place for a date. I will be back any time that I get homesick.

I am an Ankeny Diner fan, but after their Sunday brunch this morning, Im a bit tentative, as follows: Buffet variety was thin (thank God for the omelet station, even if it did take 12 minutes), potatoes cold, bacon only (OK, but some sausage would have been a nice touch), biscuits that were part concrete and part hockey puck (I asked if I could get some toast as part of the buffet, considering the sad state of the biscuits, but was told "no", as "softer biscuits were coming........which never happened).. Overall poor value at $9.99, will not return..

Went in tonight to celebrate our granddaughters 4th birthday! I sat out 4 little cupcakes in the middle of the table with her gifts. The very rude / hateful sexual harassing manager walks over to the table and says what do we have here! I smiled and said our 4 year olds birthday! He says I dont think so, we serve dessert and you have to order ours!! I told him we didnt have to order anything there! We left and as I was walking out he yelled GOOD-BYE!! Well, good bye Ankeny Diner!!! Never again!!!

Table that came in after us got their food first even though we had three small children with us. I got the roast beef blue plate special. It was definitely pre-processed canned gravy, with lumpy mashed potatoes and tasteless roast beef. My daughters cheeseburger off the kids menu was medium rare in the middle. Service was mediocre and I try to be nice because Ive been a server myself. We do not plan to return.

A friend and I had a couple of burgers. Some of the worst restaurant food we have eaten. Food just didnt seem fresh, honestly felt kinda ill after trying to eat it. Wait staff is sketchy at best. If you listen carefully you may hear the faint sound of vulgar humor coming from the kitchen. Very rarely have I said I will never step foot in a place again. The Ankeny Diner is on the top of this list.

We have eaten at the Diner a number of times on Wednesdays for the buy one tenderloin, get one free. They are huge, and very good. We have recommended the Diner to others. We have also eaten there with a group and heard NO complaints among the 9 who were enjoying the evening with a variety of meals ordered. The chocolate malts are absolutely the BEST,

Ate here before was pretty good. Came in tonight to eat. Ran out of Monday night special... No beef for other dishes, no potatoes... Im no expert but in Ankeny you have enough people in the area, running out of main food items is never a good business decision. And of course we didnt find that out until after we reordered our food.

Half full restaurant and a lengthy wait. Top that with very sub par service and chewy french toast and we arent super awesome. As I sit here, weve been done with our food for 20 minutes waiting for our plates to be cleared and check delivered.

It was a mixed bag. The french fries were on point, and the service was fantastic. But the cheeseburger was obviously just a flavorless frozen patty. I understand this is Iowa and there are no nearby farms, but...hey, wait a minute...

The Sunday buffet was really good, & only $10. I wouldve gave 4 stars but it was so hot in there. I had to complain, and management finally turned the AC down about 10 min later We were all sweating so bad, especially the guys.

Huge juicy delicious cheeseburgers & a big pile of crispy (not greasy) onion rings. We had large ice cold malts. Waitress Susannah was friendly & took good care of us. This was our 1st visit & we will definitely be back!
