After I finally tried this place, I couldnt believe Id been going to Mongolian Buffet (next door) for so long when I couldve been having this pizza, maybe the best pizza Ive ever consumed in Iowa, the whole time. If you like pizza, check it out. The menu is full of "classics" including a really great Margherita pizza. They also have a more modern section of pizza options, like Hawaiian and Buffalo. The ingredients are all fresh. You can watch the employees make your pizza and put it in the oven. The crust is the perfect amount of crispy and bubbly, with a sprinkle of sea salt. I cant rave about this restaurant enough. It is highly overlooked, but dont make the mistake doing so yourself!

The wood fired oven is greatly appreciated, but the pizza must be carefully placed in a place without cinder. Also, although it might be due to the American taste, the salt on the crust is not really needed, imho (and in the humble opinion of the entire Italian population ;P). The ingredients are very nice, and, overall, the margarita is nice.

We watched them make it and didnt know if we would be full afterwards because we were splitting an 8" pizza between the two of us, but were surprised! Not only was the pizza delicious and fresh-tasting, but it also was filling! I will definitely be going back soon and recommending Vesuvius to all my friends!

Fantastic food here, very friendly people serving, and just a fun unique atmosphere. Im not sure I can say enough good things about the pizza here, the toppings are fresh, the tastes are unique and delicious, and the crust is just perfect. I am a huge fan of this place, and come here every time I am in town.

One of the better pizzas in Ames. Overpriced for the size. A single pizza can feed one. I liked the sauce and ingredients but my crust came out soft. The place has a hipster vibe to it. The staff was friendly and the service was fast. Vesuvius is worth a visit, but I cant see myself going back often.

This was my favorite pizza place when I came to Ames. I love being able to see them make it and the crust is so good when woodfired. The open and steampunk atmosphere is a highlight along with the staff with rainbow hair. Their root beer is awesome and Im so happy that they have vegan options!

My wife and I love Vesuvius. Scott makes a mean pizza. We always recommend it to friends in town for lunch or needing a quick dinner. Try different things on the menu as well, there are some great combinations that you wont see at other pizza places in Ames.

Great pick for lunch. They have margherita pizza special with drink for $7-8. Wood-fired and delicious. If you want to spend a little more, any option on their menu is goid. I recommend trying #5 which also happens to be vegetarian (I am not) and delicious!

Absolutely fantastic quality thin crush pizzas made right in front of your eyes. The ingredients are fresh and delicious, and all pizzas can be requested vegan with vegan sausage and daiya cheese. Pizzas are more personal sized. You can order carryout.

Loved this place when I lived in Ames. It had some hard times early on but now the word is out! Best pizza in Ames, fresh toppings and I still crave it even after living in DSM for 2+ years! My only gripe is to stay open for one more hour!

Best pizza in Ames. They have unique toppings and a sea salt crust thats delicious. Its not cheap pizza, but thats because there is nothing else like it. Its definitely worth it, and they have a half off deal for ISU students on Mondays.

I simply love the freshly made brick oven fired pizzas. The pizzas are thin crust and are not over loaded with cheese making them extremely tasty and probably a bit more healthy choice. There lunch special deal is a value for money.

Great. Love tomatoes and these are best tomatoes you could ask for on a pizza. Would go again and probably at least one more time after that, if not again after that. And then for another round.

A whole pizza is supposed to be around 700-900 calories. The sauce is made of ONLY crushed tomatoes. No sugar even, theyre made from that good of tomatoes. Local ingredients. Great pizzas.

10" pizzas only. Very, very thin. Barely any sauce. Hate to say it, but frozen pizza beats this. $11 for a piece of cardboard. Though, they have good breadsticks.
