Best Indian food in CT! Its a little pricey, but the quality of everything is superb. Ive been to many other Indian places, including Darbar in Branford, but Thali is still the highest on my list. The brunch buffet on Sundays is a great value. Its around $18, but its the most impressive Indian buffet Ive been to in terms of selection and quality of food. Many many meat and vegetarian options, usually a fish option, a shrimp option, many salads, at least three desserts, and to top it all off, a station where a chef makes dosas for you. One caveat: along with the high prices, the atmosphere is annoyingly urban hip with clubby music and the general atmosphere can get loud. However, the food and really excellent service make it worthwhile.

Very expensive and not worth to pay. We visited for sunday brunch but the expectation shattered as the marketing over phone was rosy. Spicy food, very slow service for dosas, finally cancelled the dosa as v were end of our lunch when he served first DOsa although crowd was not so much where he has to take so long as we were the first family to enter for lunch followed by a couple. They calculate tips on their own and add it to the bill although it is buffet. Overall very disappointed both in terms of money and taste. Will never visit again and will not recommend anyone.

Opening a restaurant with Indian name in foreign country and claiming to represent tradition is not achieved with the attitude the servers show the customers. If customer asks for something (which is supposed to be most common thing that is served as beverage in India) and you guys do not have it just reply back nicely there is no need of making a face as if the customer uttered some gibberish word PLEASE WALK IN TO HAVE BELOW AVERAGE COLD FOOD WITH A TOUCH OF STUPID EXPLANATIONS which also is accompanied by attitude of servers

As soon as you walk into Thali, you feel like youve traveled to India. The furnishings and atmosphere are excellent. The food is to mach the decor. With creative dishes, such as the chicken biryani, chicken, rice and spices steamed in a dish with the wonderful naan bread as a top, like an Indian chicken pot-pie. The waiters/waitresses are very pleasant and I found the whole experience, while expensive, excellent.

My expereince at Thali was fun, but its expensive. I was choosing between going to Kolam in Newtown and Thali in New Haven. Now after eating at both, I like the food better at Kolam, but the atmosphere better at Thali. Kolam is also less expensive. Oh yea, the service was def better at Kolam, much more upbeat and friendly. Thali, the servers were very pushy trying to make us by a 100$ bottle of wine.

I/we (and large family groups), have eaten here many times and I cannot say enough good things about the food and service! The food is creative, fresh and flavorful. Wait-staff has been consistently good. Best wait-staff in New Haven. Probably better than Union League. I have written a number of reviews of Thali (as well as many other New Haven-centric restaurants as "Scargod" on Chowhound.

Their best food is off-menu, often at the suggestion of the "front of house" guy. The servers are great, substitutions are sometimes misunderstood, so be clear. And the simosas. Very good handmade samosas are hard to find. Here they exist and are great. A bit pricy, especially since there are no lunch specials. Its $25 or more every time.

Decent food, but way way overpriced for the experience. Its almost like eating at a diner, but paying restaurant prices. Crappy tables and chairs in a boring room with no atmosphere and mediocre service. There are so many great restaurants in New Haven that there is no reason to waste your time at this place.

The service and atmosphere are both excellent. Busboys are always prompt, and the entire restaurant is very beautiful. However, the avg. entree is over $20, way too much for the food they give you. The food is good, but not worth the money. I would probably not go again.

Go to Thali and get hair in your food. First, one hair was served in empty plate. When the server was told about it, he simply took the plate and replaced it with another one, without saying a word. Then few hair were discovered again, fried with the "papadam".

Celebrating the end of summer bridge class. Most of the students are going out after but thats too late for me. Have always wanted to try this place and its right near Gateway so I walked over. Worth every penny.

Extremely expensive, and totally different menu from their sister restaurant Thali Too, which I wasnt expecting. The actual food was very good (and definitely actually spicy) but for ridiculous prices.

Great Indian food. I do tend to prefer going Thali Too especially when weather permits seating outside.
