Darbar is without almost any question in my mind the greatest Indian restaurant in the greater New Haven area. I might even go so far as to say that Darbar is the greatest Indian restaurant in all of Connecticut. I have eaten at many, many Indian restaurants. I have eaten at Indian restaurants in New Haven, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, even Paris! Nothing I have ever had compares to Darbar. The prices are reasonable and the service is unbelievable. My girlfriend and I joke that if ever we need something all we have got to do is drink our glass of water below half-full and a waiter will be at our table and at our service in no time at all. (No, really, it is almost bizarre!) If you love Indian food then this is the restaurant for you and is definitely worth driving 30-35 minutes to visit.

Bland food.... We had the mixed kabab platter , hydrabadi dal and bhindi masala. The food lacked Indian taste. Its more to cater American folks trying to eat mild food. Dal/ Chapati was the only good thing and it stood out.. bhindi was bland - we did ask for mild , but mild and bland are 2 different things. Kabab platter was horrid - it seemed under cooked.... Especially the lamb kebabs.... There is nothing called rare / or medium rare for Indian kebabs. We left most of it. I was really craving for good kebab. Of you are an Indian and you are looking for Indian food this is not the place for you. If you are of any other ethinicity and want to try out Indian food dailed down a notch or two.. this may be your place. The hostess was super sweet and nice to us.. the

I just went there last night and I felt that I needed to write a review. The service was fantastic and our meals were absolutely wonderful. I got the "Boti Kebab Masala" and it was the best Indian dish I have had. My boyfriend loved it also (we were almost done with dinner before we realized that we had eaten each others meals ...so he was loving my meal also). He ordered "Lamb Biryani" which was absolutely delicious also. They gave us a small complementary appetizer with delicious sauces and also complimentary dessert that was delicious. I highly recommend this place!

My friends and I were travelling from DC to MA, and thought of checking out this place for dinner. We were pleasantly surprised with the food. We had ordered the dinner combo (thali) and a couple of non veg gravy. Mostly, the food was tasty, the lamb in curry had been cooked perfectly, chicken tikka masala was delicious. Tell your waiter how spicy you would like your food. Courteous, friendly stuff. I would definitely recommend this place for nice Indian food. Note (to management): Would really like to see more branches across New England.

Coming from the UK where there is an abundance of great Indian restaurants, we had high hopes for this place given the positive reviews. It definitely disappointed. The food was ok, edible, but probably the most bland madras I have eaten. My wife had the tikka Masala which was pretty tasteless, lacking any sort of kick that Id expect. At least they had kingfisher beer though a shame it wasnt on draft. Not sure what the options are for other Indians in the area so it could be the best around?

Reliably wonderful! A time-tested menu of great tasting favorites. Two notable things happened on this visit to pickup a takeout order of Chicken Korma and a Mango Lassi... 1. I saw friends seated across the room enjoying their meal, and 2. The gentleman ahead of me at the register and I debated over how long the restaurant had been in business. Id been in town for 22 years and he for 40 years...Darbar has been here for about 24 years we figured!

Visited this place for a social event of a friend but the catering was horrible. They did not serve the ice cream untill the guests started leaving after main course. The hosts were ofcourse busy with the event and did not realize it until lots of guests had already left. When the host tried to talk to the manager about it, he(and the owner lady) made a big scene in front of everyone. Really a bitter experience for both host and guests.

This is my absolute favorite restaurant!! The food is out of this world. I have been to countless Indian restaurants in Connecticut and neighboring states, and cannot find one better than darbar. The dining experience is always great. The staff is highly knowledgable and friendly. But above all, the food is to die for. Darbar India is truly a great and memorable reatauraunt you must try.

Giving a 1 star review is not enough because I ordered takeout and they are overpriced with small portions. The aloo goobi was terrible not true authentic Indian taste at all. People are better off going to Thali 1 or zaroka in newhavn or looking up the recipe on google and making it home!!!

The food and staff are both excellent. I used this restaurant as a catering provider for my wedding reception and couldnt have been happier with the service, the pricing per person, and the quality of the food that we were provided! Definitely very happy with everything here!

Best Indian place on the Shoreline. Buffet was recently upgraded, but ordering from the menu is best. Friendly and accommodating staff. Pleasant decor, ambiance. Ask for the spiciness you want. They will accommodate your requests.

Great food!! The Malai Kofta is AMAZING--I swear, theyre like little balls of heaven. Kind staff, nice location. Always busy, but have also never had to wait for a table. Some of the best Indian food on the shoreline!!

Darbar was ok and not bad considering other options in new haven. But on the whole the food was really pretty bland. I dont know, maybe they didnt spice it properly the one time we went. Very friendly service, though.

From 1993 - 1998 I ate at least one meal a week at Darbar. I moved away in 1998. I returned in 2014 & the food was better than ever. Ive traveled to many places & Ive never had better Indian food anywhere.

Im being nice by giving them 1 star. It was WORST experience ever. Never visit this Restaurant, the service is so bad and takes about an hour to bring the order. Make sure to view the MENU before visiting.

Went for the buffet, great price for CT. It was good food. Great to see an "ethnic" restaurant in Branford. I didnt realize that was allowed in Branford. I hope they do well. Sh***t

Mediocre tasting Indian food. Much better restaurants around New Haven and Orange. Coromandel buffet spread way better and tastier. Dessert was a joke. Service was poor.

Darbar has quite a large menu with an excellent selection and variety of vegetarian dishes, clearly marked as such. The buffet has few vegetarian options, however.
