Worst.... We like to call ourselves foodies as we eat out quite a lot. The quality of everything was good for a while when the restaurant changed hands to a new management. We even frequented the place almost twice a month. But Off late around October of 2011 the quality started going down hill. After giving the benefit of the doubt once we found that the place is no good and decided to stop going there. The waiters were lazy and were very lethargic in their service. The orders took for ever to arrive to my plate and the food was not fully cooked. There was some uncooked rice on my plate. Coming to their weekend buffet, the buffet line was empty and the waiters did not bother to fill it. The batter on the appetizers were mostly raw. The side dishes were cold and since they were sitting out on the buffet line a lot longer lost their flavor. When i asked the waiter to fill the buffet line i got a lethargic answer of it will be filled shortly... It has become one of the worst Indian restaurants in orange. A better choice is coramandel next door....which is a bit pricier but worth the extra money.

Worst of the worst service. my experience did not even progress to the level of eating. Called them and checked on the timings and then stepped into their sunday buffet 15 minutes before closing. most items were dried up or not there. I then asked them whether they would refill the items which were almost in semi-dry state or were over.I was rudely told that I would have to eat what was there and there would be no refills. Then I asked whether i am still expected to pay full price for a buffett which did not have half the dishes. i was told "yes". i just stepped out and drove over to an other restaurant Please ignore my ratings about food/decor as google forces me to put a review.I never even progressed to even sipping water.

Caught on the Post Road starting to get hungry we first spotted this place when we were starting to crave Indian food. Having been to India Palace, Zaroka, and another that I cant remember now, Star of India at least ranks among those and we thought was even better. We had the shrimp appetizer, followed with the chicken Tikka Masala and some other chicken dish. A second time there was just as good having the Tandoori chicken as well. All the food was great, from the papadum through to the naan. The service was excellent as well. If I had to pick on something, it would probably be the decor, but all I was thinking about was the good food anyway.

Our favorite restaurant around. We stumbled into here for lunch once years ago and now we will go nowhere else. The lunch Buffett is delightful to sample, but ordering anything off the menu is great. We moved to CT from Queens so we are well versed in ethnic food, eating at Jackson Diner for years. Star of India holds its own. When the waiter asks about spicy be aware that "-hot" really means it. If you love spicy this is the place to go. They are happy to bring you mild, but medium is delightful. All the standards plus a few unusual creations of their own. We just live this place and take guests and friends all the time .

My boyfriend and I dine at Star of India probably a minimum of every other week. The food is amazing (in particular the vegetable samosas and vegetable curry) and reasonably priced. They offer a vegetarian platter for two, which includes samosas, 2 entrees, and dessert, for under $30. (Its offered with meat dishes as well.) I guess its under new ownership... we hope that they stay open because we absolutely love this restaurant! The staff is gracious and always wants to be sure we are satisfied with the food. Its my favorite place to eat in the area.

For whoever is managing the place, thanks for keeping the food fresh. I mean really fresh. The freshness of the food shows in the taste of meat especially, chicken. Good job shopping! All the chicken dishes tasted good. Uthappam was a bit undercooked inside and some dishes like grilled chicken and vegetable fritters were too salty for our taste. But waiters were attentive, naan was fresh, good spread. Good value for money.

My wife and have been going here for years. Our favorites are the chicken tikka masala, the butter chicken, and their samosas , but everything on the menu is amazing. Ive even gone and ordered something I never had before in my entire life, but was recommend by a friend, and it was absolutely delicious. Their waiters are courteous, and theres never a wait. This might be the best Indian food Ive had it all New England.

Best Indian lunch buffet in the area. Ive tried them all and I think Star of India is consistently the best. Its also a lot cheaper than Coromandel, the one right down the road. My only complaint would be that Id like a little more variation in dessert options- its almost always kheer or fruit delight, and Id like to get some gulab jamun or ras malai every once in a while

I started going to Star of India back in the 90s, and always thought their food was great. I lived in NYC from 01-08, so I was spoiled by the many different Indian restaurants available. I moved back to CT in 08 - Star of India still had the best food. For a restaurant to be consistent for over a decade...excellent food and great pricing. Enjoy!

Not very inviting when you first walk in but the excellent food and friendly staff makes up for the not so great ambiance. Fair prices and great food. I am a repeat customer and never had something I did not like. Bathrooms are small but clean. Waiters are pleasant and eager to please. Overall a great dining experience and would recommend!

THE BEST Indian Ive ever had. Ive tried other places in ct, ny, ma and hands down star of india is the best. Best tasting everything. I taste so many different seasonings in just one bite, they know what theyre doing! AND you can ask to have it more or less spicy and they make it on point for you everytime !

One of the worst, worst place I have gone. I asked for fresh idlis. I paid $24 for 3 plates. The best lace had the nerve to pack me frozen idlis. Go figure. This is AFTER the guy (thakka) guaranteed me that they are fresh idlis. Shame. Never go to this place. Dont trust this place.

Hi, I have tried almost 10 Indian restaurants in around the area, but this one is really authentic. If you really want to eat - the Punjabi food, this is the place to be at. Reasonable Price, and great taste. I recommend this place, if you are in mood for some spice and fun.

I have been ordering from Star of India and have always had a delicious meal. Although they got my order wrong once, I called them up and they immediately fixed it and the driver brought what was ordered. A bit of a language barrier, but never upset with the food
