I dont understand what kind of business model Tikkaway Grill is operating with, but I approve. Are they somehow making money by giving me a giant pile of delicious Indian food for 7 bucks? And I can choose pretty much anything (and everything)? Ive only had the rice bowl, but it is a truly impressive amount of food. They let you combine whatever ingredients you want and create a true abomination that would make the Gods shake their heads in horror. And they dont skimp on the food, either. This is the kind of meal where if you threw it at someones head, they could be seriously injured (a solid plus in my book). I think the guy behind the counter was pretty amused that I legitimately wanted a bit of everything. Im not smart enough to know which diced red stuff goes with onions or cilantro or what. Just throw it all on there, buddy. Its all gonna look pretty similar in my stomach anyway. The flavors themselves were a nice combination and the spice was perfect (I got the medium-spiced (madras sauce). It burned, but not in the way Id spend the next 12 hours regretting. However, the small space isnt very conducive to forming a proper line/queue and its a bit tight in there. If youre British, you may find it horrifying. But it wasnt too bad. Service is fast and friendly. They even give you two sauces with a fairly affordable samosa (1.25!). Which you can then dump on your feast! The only other flaw is their hours: Open until 9pm during the week (yay) but only 7pm on weekends (boo). Id think at the least they could stay open until 9 or even 10 on the weekends. Id love to be able to stop by between bars and scarf a giant bowl of Indian food. You know youre doing something wrong when the only flaw is, "Why cant I jam your food into my head more often?!" Well done, Tikkaway. I dont know if you invented the "like Chipotle but for Indian" thing, but if you didnt, you sure as hell brought it to the next level.

I keep going back to this place all the time - seriously, this is my fall-back place. I love this Tikkaway Grill more than many other $10 buffet places. Their meals are Chipotle-style, if you will. You select what you want from a line-up of pre-made stuff and they are ALL yummy. You can definitely regulate the amount of spicy-ness, and they have plenty of vegetarian/vegan and gluten-free options. Its a small place, so not good for a good group, but excellent for small groups and two-somes. Summer drink is definitely the mango lassi and winter drink is the Masala Chai. If you are not too hungry, but still up for some snacks, try the samosas. They are the best!!! For more adventurous and spice-loving people, I definitely recommend the samosa chaat!!!

Im not a New Heaven native, so I had never heard of Tikkaway. I was passing by with a Friend, and we thought some curry would be cool. The experience was a bit surprising at first. The service is like that of Chipotle, but adapted to Indian food. Its really well thought out. Pick a way to eat (I went to the bowl) pick a rice or salad, then you pick a meat (or one of their vegan options), a sauce (I went for the vindaloo since I like my spice) and then some extra toppings. It was delicious to say the least, and the staff was very friendly and enthusiastic. I wish we had these in other places but its definitely a recommendation for anyone visiting Yale or just near the area.

Ive been to Tikkaway Grill about ten times. Each and every visit was a great experience! The food is very good with fresh vegetables and great flavors, and the staff is some of the friendliest Ive ever encountered. The prices are also surprisingly cheap given the portion sizes and quality of the food. Id like to add that the music playing in the background is always great! My only complaint is that theres no delivery. Regardless, its well worth the trip downtown to eat at Tikkaway. Keep up the good work and seriously commend your staff members for their outstanding attitudes. P.S. Try the papad - fantastic

Just stopped by the new location on 2 Howe Street with a coworker and we both loved it - very fresh and quick, great service - everyone is great and checked in to make sure we liked our order. The manager was nice enough to have me taste test the hot and super hot sauce before piling it on my order and I was glad he did because I would have been kicking myself if I went with the super hot - everything tasted great and the layout is nicely designed - thumbs up! I stopped by again and I got the samosa and out of this world! definitely try one - they are sooo good

We got to try this place offering Indian food with a Chipotle spin. Mostly likeable. Kind of small but well maintained place. Good portion size for reasonably priced menu. The tea is very authentic which is a rarity. Food is really good but can be made to taste better. Remember to season your end product (for roti or rice bowl) if you long for the real Indian flavor. I would say one can try different combination of sauces for more enriching experience. The samosa Chaat was great. Few of the folks could use a bit more smile.

AMAZING FOOD AT AN AMAZING PRICE!! Went there for the first time and it is truly amazing. the atmosphere is clean, fresh, and open. Their mild sauce and mango lassi is delectable. Their lamb taste very fresh and all of their veggies. The decoration is super, duper cute. I get to leave my mark some where. Totally recommend it to anyone who loves a bit of spice and tang to their food, a loving atmosphere, and super fun to bring your friends. Definitely going there again.

I love tikkaway! I went here the first time with my mom for my birthday. At the time of writing, I have been here 95 times. Food is cheap, but fresh, varied, and delicious. I still remember meeting Gopi (the owner) the first time and he said "if I dont want to give it to my kids, how could I serve it in my restaurant." This place is Gopis passion and talent - and it shows in the food.

Tikkaway grill is a good fast option for Indian take out of the light and fast kind if you are in the new haven area. Definitely recommended if you are in that area or looking for a quick option off I95. I have been there a few times and the food never disappoints. Also had a chance to yak to the owner and his passion for serving good food comes across when you talk to him.

Tikkaway Grill is one of the best places to eat in New Haven. Their food is fresh, delicious, unique, filling, and well priced , with great options for vegetarians and vegans. This place is worth stopping by for those visiting New Haven for short stay , and it is a staple for people living here full time.

The food was disgusting, I read the reviews before going into this place, was extremely excited to try the food. But was a huge disappointment. I believe the only reason why other people gave it good review is because they dont know any better. I would rather go down the street to over priced Tali.

New haven has so many amazing restauraunts and food option and this place is tops. Its more of a fast food setting but the food quality, flavors, and staff make it a must go. It also helps that its a very inexpensive option. Its not exactly a first date place but a delicious meal none the less.
