East Tokyo is a well hidden little gem located in the Stop and Shop plaza on Farmington Avenue. From the sashimi to the sushi rolls, everything has always been fresh and well made. My girlfriend and I have mostly gone later in the night when its not too crowded, but even when theyre extremely busy it doesnt take long to get your meal. The (presumable) owner, Robert, seats us in "our" booth all the time if its open. Hes always very friendly and knows us by name, which adds a nice personal touch. Aside from going there to eat they also offer takeout. Wait times for ordering takeout have always been 20-25 minutes, never any longer. Their hours are especially accommodating, being open until 10pm Sunday through Thursday and 11pm on Friday and Saturday. The last major selling point for East Tokyo is they are BYOB. This is a huge money saver and guarantees youll be drinking what you want for much cheaper than buying a glass. East Tokyo is definitely worth the trip and, despite trying a multitude of other sushi places, remains our favorite go to.

We have been to ET before 3+ times and have had take out a few times in the past. The meals were so-so, the sushi was awesome good on site this past summer. WTF happened? Made a visit this past weekend... on a weekend night and the place is almost empty. We ordered from the Chinese Chefs Recommendations...I knew we were going down hill when the food arrived on ICE COLD plates...the meal was horrible. Both plates were so over salted it was like drinking sea water...sea food (?) was unchewable, the lobster was fake of course, not even lagostina, some crap that felt like it was squeezed from a tube with coloring...even the rice was crap. How do you destroy rice? We did not eat 10% left disgusted. When it is this bad there is no second chance for redemption. We both felt so uncomfortable that we went to Olympia Diner to salvage the night, and they did.

I work right down the road and I go every single week, sometimes even multiple times a week. Forget those previous reviews, those folks must have gone on an off day, or waited too long to pick up their food. The sushi, and all of East Tokyos dishes are ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS, take out or eat-in. My favorite by far is the Berlin Roll (huge plate of sushi, tempura shrimp, avocado, crab and a special sauce, your mind and taste buds will be blown away its that good) and I would suggest a bento box, can get (beef, chicken, shrimp, salmon) teriyaki or tempura, and it comes with a soup, salad, little fish balls, sushi and a side of rice. Everybody I take there enjoys it just as much as I do, plus the owner is super friendly and accommodating. OH! And try the all you can eat sushi for $20 on Sundays. BOMB.

Disgusting, I would never consider going back or recommend to anyone. We had take-out 4/17 and had to actually throw out two Pad Thais and two orders of spicy tuna rolls, it was that bad. The food had obviously been sitting around a very long time, maybe two days?..., pad thai definitely was not freshly made nor were the rolls. The rolls had such an odd texture I dont know if they put some filler in there or what but it was just awful. Only reason we did not return the food was because it was horrendous stormy weather out.

I only had take out once. It was the Rainbow Lover sushi dish and it was very good, however, WAY overpriced. For $18 the rainbow roll shouldn't have contained imitation crab meat and it should have come with a salad or soup to "round out" the meal. I would try it again to explore other options. Tried it again with my husband for a sit down dinner. Much better! Our food was delicious, well prepared and the wait staff was friendly and attentive. Dont forget BYOB!

DONT believe the people that gave this place 1 star. East Tokyo is a great restaurant! Stopped in last night to try it out. Ordered the Beef negamaki, chicken yakitori, Mongolian chicken, pad Thai, a side of fried rice and a side of hibachi fried rice. Everything was DELICIOUS!! Definitely will be returning to this place!

First class sushi, cant beat the ability to bring in your own beverages. We have been going there for years and have told numerous people who really know sushi and they love it! Like any restaurant, you cannot go once and say you know the place especially if you had one bad experience. Robert is a class act owner!
