Kings Chef is an institution. Been going there for years. Be prepared to pay in cash, but also prepare for an amazing breakfast or lunch. (They have an ATM on site if you forget). Clean your plate, and youll get a sticker--- thats how big the portions are. Of course you can get 1/2 sizes, so no worries. Seriously some of the best food in the springs. My favorite is the Grump w/ sausage, it has the gravy but get a side of the green chili too! Somedays that chili can be super spicy (they make it fresh) so I recommend getting it on the side if you have a sensitive tongue. But there is really no wrong thing to order. Fridays and Saturdays they open up late night, so after last call you can soak up all that liquor with some serious hangover food. The people are awesome too, Gary (G-Vinnie!) only hires the most competent waitresses, they really know how to take care of you. Just dont be stupid, they have a hassle fee haha. Give it a try, its the BEST. They win all the awards, just check the walls. :)

Contrived effort to capture hipster doofus clientele that can't tell the taste difference between black pepper and chiles, as long as the punk music is blaring and the wait staff sports multiple piercings and ink. REALLY bad food; try ordering something with "easy on the black pepper" and you get a look from wait staff like you have two heads, followed by an explanation that the black pepper is considered "love", also a contrived concept i've seen at dozens of other restaurants. Eat here only if your palate can't discern the subtle difference of chiles and the overwhelming flavor of nigrum piper that drowns out all other flavors of their dishes. Sorry, but no "love" for me, and no love from me. I'd rate this as a no-star eatery, but alas, that option is not given; i'll be taking my business elsewhere.

Colorado Springs is severely lacking in notable restaurants. Kings Chef Diner is one of the few. Their claim to fame is their breakfast burrito. So I ordered it. It was good. tried it with both the salsa and the gravy and I preferred it with the gravy. The burrito may very well be the best in Colorado. But then again, I dont think they have much competition. I also had a go at the french toast which was satisfying. The coffee had some strange twang taste to it which was fine after being sugared and creamed. On the downer side, the prices were kind of high, but then I reminded myself that this was in downtown and that the place stays open real late on weekends. Unfortunately, its a cash only joint. They do have an ATM inside though. If I lived in the area, I could see myself coming here frequently enough.

First, make sure you have cash. Second, especially if youre coming for breakfast, come hungry. Im a fan of the 1/2 Grump with bacon, scrambled eggs, and green chili instead of the gravy. That and a cup of coffee should fill you up for the better part of the day. If you get a chance when you go, sit at the counter and watch the kitchen staff prepare the food. Theyre machines. Youll find Gary, the owner, there most days and hes always willing to talk food. If youre a fan of spicy food, make sure to try their vegetarian, Colorado-sourced green chili. If you are unsure of your spice tolerance, ask for a sample first. Be strategic about the time you go since its downtown and you might find yourself waiting with the Sunday crowd.

Been going to the King’s Chef since before Gary moved into the BIG diner across from Acacia Park. Dozens of burgers (full rabbit), a hundred breakfasts later and not one was a disappointment. Food is always been spot on! You better be hungry too, might try just half an order of breakfast, a full Grump will hurt you….in the best way though. Everyone talks about the Breakfast Burrito (as they should) but don’t miss out on the Grump, The Wizard, the french toast,…… And you’d be hard pressed to find a better/bigger burger. Open late, way past when the bars close. Plan on a wait Sat & Sun mornings, they are always packed. That should tell you enough. Thanks for getting it right every time Gary!

I am astonished in the fact of peoples reviews saying that King chef if pricey lmao are you kidding me I dont thin quality breakfast and lunch could be any cheaper. If your wanting something more cheap then definitely go to MickyDs they have breakfast all day now. And they also alow your plastic form of pay. I love this place has always had great service. Food is above and beyond you definetly get your moneys worth here. No way you will be leaving this place hungrey. And to top it off the coffee is way better then a traditional dinner. This place is my favorite breakfast place in town. Yea I love you long chef its a weekly or biweekly if I dont get there each week. But definetly worth it

The food here is wonderful. The big thing to get here is the breakfast burrito with the homemade gravy. (Or green chili if you like a little kick). You wont be disappointed. I was as ravenous as a pack of starving wolves and I still wasnt able to finish it. Oh. They also make cinnamon rolls - I swear to God it is one of the best cinnamon rolls Ive ever eaten in my entire life. It is WELL worth the $7 or whatever you pay for it! Believe me. #mouthorgasm The service is pretty good -- at least Ive never had a problem with it. The coffee is good too, a Brazilian dark roast or something like that. Its a hole-in-the-wall restaurant and a definite must-do if youre in Colorado Springs.

This place used to be located in a building that looks like a purple castle, now they are occupying a corner on tejon in downtown Colorado springs, the new location has a lot more room. Their food is excellent comfort food. Giant portions and greasy in the best way. They serve famous breakfast burritos available as a 1/2 or a full order. The full order could feed 4 thin adults. Their sirlion steaks are aged 21 days and are better than most steakhouse varieties. The French toast is really good too! They serve green chili too, a local favorite! They have some non-traditional business hours, so check online before you go. I recommend this place to everyone!!

The breakfast burrito with green chile is the best breakfast in town. First time we went there we didnt know the closest parking was metered and we didnt have change. When we entered King Chefs I handed the staff a few dollars so I could have change for the meter, they just handed me quarters without taking my money. Although the decor isnt what anyone would call classy, giving money for the meters is. Also, cash only but they do have an ATM in the restaurant. Maybe they take checks, I dont remember? but honestly who that isnt trying to purposely slow down a grocery store checkout carries them anymore?

This place is fantastic. Likely the best hole in the wall breakfast place Ive ever been too in all my travels. Really original and creative breakfast items. Their Green Chili sauce is amazing (though unpredictably hot). The servings are absolutely massive. From what I understand they charge more for sharing a plate, but it may be worth it or get a 1/2 or 1/4 size portion unless you want to take the majority of it home with you. Can get crowded. I highly recommend "The Thing", The Breakfast Burrito, and the HUEVOS DE KING CHEF. Full menu is available on their website.
