Owned by a big fat guy named Nick who gives off the impression that he emigrated from Greece when he was 14 with $20 dollars and a dream... Nicks (and familys) food is down-home made-to-order Greek awesomeness. The gyros are the best I have ever had. They make their own yogurt sauce which is much better than other places. They make sure the gyros meat is grilled fully (as opposed to the overly moist crap you get everywhere else!) Not just the gyros fare either: pizza, subs, sandwiches, soup, and salads. Located immediately next to campus (south hill), which provides easy access. One warning: CASH ONLY. Its worth the trip around the block to an ATM.

This place has 4.9 stars for a reason; the place is great. Delicious food for a reasonable price. For $9.25 you can get a gyro meal that comes with fries and drink. The gyro is the signature thing to get here and I would definitely recommend it your first visit, but the other options are great too; they have subs, pizza, souvlaki, and more. They also have some Greek desserts that Ive yet to try but look good. The atmosphere is chill and relaxed, with pop music playing. They have some seating inside but you can also order it to go, usually takes about 5-10 minutes to get your food, but its made fresh so definitely worth the short wait.

This is seriously one of the best Greek restaurants at which I have ever eaten, and is definitely the best in College Park and the whole surrounding area. Their gyros are just amazing, and I dont think Ive ever had a better one anywhere else. The staff is also friendly, especially the one big guy who owns the place. The service is also superfast--at most I think I have waited 5 minutes to get my food. I stop in whenever I am down in College Park and have the time. The first time you go there, get the Value Meal (comes with gyro, fries and drink) and baklava for dessert--a great introduction to the place.

Many, many years since my days at UMD, this is still the best gyro Ive ever had, and I still havent been able to duplicate the seasoning on the fries!. The souvlaki and kronoburger are amazing, as well. I make it a point to visit whenever I find myself passing the College Park exit on the Beltway. Of all the eateries I frequented in my College Park days, I miss this one the most. Nick, the owner, even remembers my face all these years later!. I hope Marathon Deli stays open forever. Love it!

We arrived shortly after they opened. We knew the days ingredients would be fresh because we were crying. Apparently the kitchen was preparing onions for the day, and with the kitchen door opened, the place was saturated with onion air. I ordered a Chicken Gyro and from the first bite it was delicious! It tasted very fresh. Do you know how feta cheese can sometimes taste dry and processed? Not the case here. I would return for another meal the next time Im in College Park, MD.

Ever since my partner and I moved to Maryland earlier in the year, weve been looking for a place to get delicious Greek food. We tried Marathon Deli today and it does not disappoint. This place serves the best gyro Ive ever had - the meat is fresh off the spit and its made with love and care. I just had one for lunch and Im seriously considering going back for dinner - its that good.

reasonable prices for SUPER good gyros. im picky about gyros meat since Im from the chicago region, where i was spoiled by hot dog/gyro joints all over, and Marathons gyros dont disappoint at all. The meat is fresh off the spit, not frozen planks, and they make their own tzatziki sauce, too. Also FYI, if youre going based off these reviews, they do take credit/debit now.

Dont go for the decor-- I think some of the framed posters have been up since I first visited in 1989. Its a good idea to call before you go, because they announce schedule changes with a note on the door. Ive never had a better gyro that at Marathon in 37 years- a perfect blend of warm bread, meat onion tomato and sauce. The seasoned fries were great, too.

Ive been enjoying the gyros and spanikopita at Marathon Deli since around 1980. Now I live in Africa, but whenever Im in America I head to College Park for a gyro on pita w/o onions. A friendly, family-run vibe. The atmosphere is 99 and 44/100s percent pure low-rent, linoleum and paper plates, hole-in-the-college-town-wall. Youre paying for food, not decor.

This place is great! Ive been going for over a year now and have never been disappointed. The baklava is amazing! Everyone knows each other here and a lot of old guys from diverse backgrounds come here so you know its got to be good! It can be a bit crowded during the lunch rush during the weekdays but well worth any wait!

Been going there since 1980 and have never found a better gyro than Marathon Deli. I dont live nearby anymore and I still venture back whenever I can for the value meal. I remember when it was $2.50, but hey, its still a great deal! Looking forward to my next visit, which will be SOON!

Always grab a gyro when I visit the family in Chicago and one day I had to rake on the risk of trying one in Maryland. This place has a pretty good gyro but is a tad stingy with the lamb meat. Looks like a family ran business and the younger guy I spoke to was very respectful.

Marathon deli is my favorite place for a quick dinner in CP! I always get a gyro, best in town. The owner is also a great guy! If I wasnt such a broke college student, I would go all the time. Not to mention, the homemade rice pudding and the baklava. YUM.

The only thing I order is the Value Meal: gyro, fries, and a fountain drink (free refills!). It is amazing. Ive been to Greece and had the gyros there, and Marathons are just as good (maybe better.). Update: everything here is incredible as always!

Been going here for many years - I always get the veggie gyro - I suspect that "veggie gyro" may be a contradiction in terms, that a gyro without meat isnt really a gyro - but I dont care, its always very good!

Now thats a taste of Greece in College Park. They do original Greek wraps which taste exactly as they should and they even have delicious pies and whatever else Im missing when very far away from home!

The best Gyros Ever! I love gyros and I have tasted many in this area but I must admit that this spot is the best. THE FRIES ARE TO DIE FOR!!! The staff is also friendly.

Open at weird hours, staffed by students, and looks like garbage... but the food is incredibly good. Gyros here are the best in the DC area, in my opinion.

Some of the best gyros Ive ever had. If youre a mushroom lover, do NOT skip the Kronoburger. Its all the awesome of gyro + mushrooms and melted cheese.
