Joys has been around for a while. Theres even a secret menu page translated by a Chowhounder, so thats impressive. 中華路鍋貼 was gigantic and filling, and took up a whole small plate even though there are only 6 dumplings. XO 醬刀削海鮮炒麵 had a nice handmade texture. Dinner was fine, ordered the 砂鍋獅子頭 (not as tender as Spices, but decent), 紅扒全鴨 was a bit stringy, 豆酥鱈魚 was okay but not too memorable, and added the 三杯雞腿肉, which was on the dry side. Weekend brunch comprises of different items they dont normally make during the weekdays, such as soy milk (good), and I ordered my first 湖北熱乾麵, which wasnt as spicy as I had imagined. 蟹黃糕 was hot and good as a dessert.

For NorCal chinese food this place is good. When comparing this restauran to other places such as LA itd only be average 3 star. Im only giving it 4 stars here because suprisingly there arent many other choices for good Chinese food in the bay area. Not everything is great but most of the menu is good. Sweetened Soybean Milk (Tian Dou Jiang)- this place already sweetened it for you and they do it just right. Beef Noodle Soup - Two types of noodes - knife cut or regular long noodles. Good tender beef. Big pot of soup pork and preserved vegetables, cant think of the name at the moment but Ill edit this review later and add it when I remember.

I went here to eat at this restaurant and I had a very bad experience. Dont eat at this restaurant. Very poor service I have to get water for myself and they will force you to tip. the food took very long to be served for a hungry me, I have no water so I haveto get my own and when I paid the rude cashier said I only paid for the food and tip is a must like I cant leave the restaurant without giving the poor greedy rude.man a tip. Do Not Eat Here Period

I have been eating in this restaurant for over 20 years. It has became frequent place to eat when I am tired of cooking. The price is a little over average chinese restaurant, but the ingredients in foods are good quality. You dont need to worry about MSG or food safety. There are many dishes you dont know unless you are a frequent visitor and familiar with local taiwan cuisine. So dont judge it by just one visit.

This is a much above average Chinese restaurant in this area. It has a lot of legit Taiwanese/Szi Chuang style dishes. 5 Joy along with Cooking Papa are probably the two best Chinese restaurants in the area. Just be aware that there are special menu items for the weekend - Chinese style breakfast with fried flour sticks and home made soy bean milk, as well as other types of weekend exclusive dishes.

Nothing special about this place. Not sure what all the hype is about. Been here twice, and their food is pretty mediocre, in my opinion. Ive had much better shanghainese, and taiwanese style food elsewhere in the Bay Area (e.g. Mama Chens or Mama Liangs for Taiwanese, and Shanghai Family for Shanghainese). A little overpriced, but at least their service is fast.

Theyve slowly raised their prices over the years, but I still love their food. If youre looking for no-frills Chinese (almost like a Chinese home-cooked meal), this is your spot. They have a pretty big space, perfect for family gatherings. Love their knife-cut noodles and their chicken and fish (salt & pepper) dishes

Great place for family style dinners or large parties. Our party of 10 were pretty full so we only ordered individual servings of desserts, but the boss lady felt like it wasnt enough, so she upgraded two of our desserts to jumbo sized ones enough for the whole party. Food was delicious!

I live near by and have eaten their meals for over 14 years . They used to be pretty good .........But now...NOT SO MUCH ! Im very disappointed in the decline of quality and obvious lack of self respect . Its as if they just dont care anymore........very sad !

Food was very good. Atmosphere was not that great and it was very crowded. Good for restaurant, but I could barely move around our table. I thought one of my children had an accident in their pants...but then my brother informed me that it was the stinky tofu.

Stinky tofu! We love us some Taiwanese, sticky tofu. Its some of the best we can get outside of Taiwan. Authentic Taiwanese cuisine and quick service. Weekend nights are always busy with family and friends gathering for personal events.

I believe it is the best Taiwanese style restaurant in the Bay Area. The fiod is well done and there is a homestyle flavor going as the dishes are thoughtfully prepared. From stinky tofu to whole fish, they are awesome

Very good restaurant, very nice staff, efficient speed. So far the dishes has been quality over quantity... so very nice. I little pricey but definitley worth it. Also a good for family and gatherings.

Food is mediocre, service is pretty good but can be quite a wait for the food. Not as good as the other Chinese/HK restaurants in the area, like Cooking Papa or Tsui Wah.

Joys been here forever and is generally pretty good. Some dishes are better than others. I recommend the: potstickers, fried porkchop over rice and XO noodles.

Forget the yelp hipsters! great quality chinese food at reasonable prices. Taiwanese cuisine is their strong point, but other styles are well represented

If youre Caucasian you are not welcomed here. While you get your food, it is not with a smile or a hope to come again. Went once and learned my lesson.

Great food at a great price. The Chinese breakfast menu on Saturday is great and they have a limited but great selection of Taiwanese food as well

Fresh made noodles. Stinky tofu served here, so the aroma can be detected from the parking lot, not just from the next table. Service just ok.

I like the Taiwanese food a lot. Particularly the huge potstickers. On drawback is that it can be very noisy on a busy day.

I always get the hand-cut noodles, stinky tofu, and potstickers here. Everything else Ive had here is pretty good, too.
