My love and I went for the first time yesterday and when I say this place has the BEST SOUL FOOD Ive set my taste buds on ... its the honest to God truth! Ive been in Washington for almost 9 years and I havent been able to find a Soul food restaurant that tastes like home cooked meals from the south. This was the first place that had great price, PHENOMENAL FOOD, and southern hospitality service! This is now my go to spot. I fell asleep after I ate. Food gives you the it is. Thats how you know its spectacular. Oh and the KoolAid was perfection! Thank you so much. Ken & Ty

Usually Thurm is very nice and friendly. But today he was very rude. I mean so nasty rude. I ordered a head of time and I asked for lighter salt on the food. The food is always so salty. He says you get the food how we make it. I didnt want it but still had to get my coworkers chicken strips. I get there and 1 hour later still no food. The teenagers from across the street was in. Him and his cook was beyond rude to those kids. Being a mom that was totally out of line the way he the way they talked to them children. Im very disappointed and will never go back again.

Based on the great reviews we went here for dinner. Arrived at 5:30 PM. Two (count them, two) OPEN signs in the front window were illuminated and flashing. There was a grate pulled across the front doors but we went in a door next to the main ones that went into the restaurant. People were sitting at tables. A gentleman in the kitchen informed us they were closed. "If the grates closed were closed." No explanation of the OPEN lights, no sorry, no nothing. Wont be back, even if he has the best damn ribs in Tacoma (which is now seriously doubtful).

Place was dirty and dingy. The owner made some customers feel very uncomfortable, while making others feel at home. (Depending on if he knew you or not). The music was to loud for such a small space...we couldnt even carry a conversation with the person next to us, without yelling. But, although they dont have a vegetarian menu, they did make me a very nice salad (which was not on the menu). Hubby said food wasnt worth going back for dinner... maybe lunch is better?

I expected more. I was very disappointed all together. The restaurant needs a major overhaul (makeover) and the food was not very good. Our server was nice, except He never once came back to see how we were doing, or if we even liked our food. I try hard to support local businesses but will not be returning back to this one. I wish them all the best.

I went with an open mind, always searching for something outside the chain bbq places. 15 dollars for a rib dinner and Im fine with that. 4 small ribs all with the consistency of jerky and both the bbq sauce and mac and cheese were super salty. Greens were rockin. All said, not worth a visit or 15 dollars.

Well I felt i had to give it 3 cuz I ate it all I was hungry. But...the catfish was salty and my mac n cheese was not hot. The yams good the beans and rice good the riblet was not. The greens were salty but not too salty i liked them...I wont be back for ribs

I had the Gumbo....nothing is better than home cooking!! I felt like I was eating my grandmas cooking so I had to go back!!! the next time I had the medley, it has a little bit of everything lets we just say sooo soo yummy agian! We will be back!!!!

The food was pretty good and I recommend the medley plate. However, the restaurant feels a bit run down and the waiters arent very attentive. Also, my friends pulled pork sandwich had an odd flavor that we did not enjoy very much.

Great food... But thats just the start the staff was very friendly and service was top notch... Then the live blues and soul started. I wasnt expecting entertainment, music was perfect accompaniment to a venue you must sit to enjoy.

Customer service is horrible. Their communication with customers is very very awful. Will never ever refer anyone to them again ever. Food is toooooooo salty. They are rude. All the above I think giving them one star was to much.

First time going tonight. Got my grandma the Seafood Gumbo. She enjoyed it. I had the medley and it was very good. Girlfriend had the pulled pork and it was a little salty. All in all we will be returning in the future.

We went in for lunch ready to enjoy some soul food. The plates we got were pretty pricy to leave us unsatisfied. The mac & cheese had an awful taste as well as the streak not a place I would reccomend to dine at.

If you like BBQ you need to come here. The food will remind you of home cooking that is not only delicious but also you will be full since the portions are quite generous. The staff are very friendly as well.

Just walked in this place and was greeted by the rudess worker who didnt say hello at all but stated unless we have a call in order they are closing in 5mins. She was mean about it. My kids was upset!

Catfish Medley, Catfish fillets chopped with collard greens, sweet potatoes , Rice&Beans.. every time I come inside someone is eating bbq so thats a good sign.
