Ok so I was looking for some good Chinese food and i came across the China Star on cox rd , After reading the nine reviews it seemed like a place that give you that feeling of satisfaction. After placing my order I could not wait to get the food an see if everyone was right. Much to my disappointment the food did not stand up to the reviews. I can say this the pork fried rice was the best part of my meal. I ordered the shrimp and lobster sauce with a shrimp egg roll. There was one yes one shrimp in my sauce, they used canned mushrooms and no lobster none. The shrimp egg roll had a half of a jumbo shrimp. My wife ordered the Shrimp lo mien that had no shrimp what so ever no sauce just noodles and a veggie we believe to be carrots but still not sure. Bottom line is the last review was written in April, So sometime between then an now they got real cheap and really disappointing. Tops China ,The East end Buffet ,Mr Wongs all these places seem much better now that I have tried this so called authentic Chinese restruant. If you dont believe me see for your self just dont expect $30.00 of food to taste good.

My wife and I are frequent customers of China Star, and let me just say that you cannot find any Chinese food in town that is more authentic than what China Star provides. Of course, with this said, China Star has two different sets of menus. One for your traditional take-out American Chinese food, while the other for the truly authentic Chinese food that you can only find in the restaurants in China. (You have to ask for the Chinese Menu) I can honestly say that I have not had anything that tasted so authentic since I went to China last time in 2007, and I am a frequent visitor to Washington DC and New York. No matter if you are a Chinese person looking for that authentic taste from China, or an American wishing to try some real Chinese food, China Star is the right place for you.

Im a huge critic and review junky. On top of that I work in the Restaurant industry Prep/Cook. Chinese is by far my favorite. I ordered General Taos Chicken. Wonton soup and a sweet tea. Everything was nice and hot. Plating was very presentable. And the service was prompt and polite. And finally the price not bad for the amount of food $14.47. If you love a kick try their dejion mustard... Wow. Despite negative reviews this establishment is definitely a place I recommend and will be returning to. Great atmosphere. Oh and Im a secret shopper so Im a real critic. 2nd visit a month later just as good as the first. Beef and broccoli. And General Taos chicken to go. $17.65 great price for 2 meals. Beef A little on the salty side but thats normal. Great meal

This was a very good and possibly the only authentic Chinese restaurant in Richmond. Love their Fuqi Beef Triple(Fu Qi Fei Pian), Spicy fish(Shui Zhu Yu)... However, everything tastes different now. I assume that they must have changed their chef (what a shame)! The last time we drove more than 40 minutes to get some food there and we were disappointed. The food now is between authentic Chinese and yucky American Chinese. I can only say that now we need to drive to DC. to get some real Chinese food! crying...

I went in for a quick carryout last Saturday night and I saw an out of this world image. After the owners who cook 100% of their own food finished they were singing karaoke with the guests. That deserves two thumbs up. I mean where can you find a Chinese restaurant they that also provides (FREE) live entertainment along with great food. My personal recommendations are: The Chinese Kung Pao Chicken and the Light Broth Noodle Soup. Watch out Jay Chou their might be a new talent in town.

Terrible prices for terrible food. Ordered a shrimp and scallop dish, what I got was maybe 3 or 4 pieces of shrimp and 2 pieces of scallops and the other 75% of it was nothing but carrots, onions, and this neon orange sauce. Other beef and broccoli dish tasted like nothing but broccoli, no beef taste to be found. Hot and sour soup was made from ingredients that tasted expired. Charged $5 for delivery when I live 4 minutes away. Whole order of 2 dishes and a soup cost me $30.

Soooooo delicious food, reasonable prices. Weve tried just about every Chinese place in the West End, and this one is hands-down our favorite. We usually order the Chicken and Broccoli, spicy. We order that everywhere, and this place does it the absolute best. The fried rice is also outstanding. The hot and sour soup and spring rolls are slightly above average, but the flavors of the sauces and fried rice make this our #1 favorite Chinese takeout.

Worst customer service in the area. I tried to order a dinner combination which came up to 10 dollars... a measly 2 bucks short of their "12 dollar minimum" Rather than asking me if i wanted to add anything else or even disregarding the 2 dollar difference they asked me if i could "just please call somewhere else" So i am recommending that all of you "call somewhere else" where the food is probably better and the customer service is acceptable.

The one star is more than they deserve. Had very rude customer service. After I ordered my food for dine in once I got the food went to sit down and guy said can I help you? And I said Im eating my food? He said you cant eat in here thats different... while no one is even in the building.. and another nice couple sat and waiting for 15 minutes before anyone even came to them... never will be coming here again.

1st time here... Me and my family just moved out into the West End area weve gone to all the Chinese food areas out here except for one and this place by far is the most delicious and when it came out it was hot it wasnt already sitting and like pre cooked very delicious very satisfied. Had the general tso chicken and egg rolls a little pricey but a lot of food comes with it so it balances out.

BAD customer service. I ordered delivery once, I had to get dressed and take it back because they said they were not coming back out. Then I called to order one more time only to be told they dont deliver out here. I said well you delivered here before, he said Im too busy bye... And hung up. So apparently they only deliver when they want. Very rude tone. Ill never try them again.

Passing through the Richmond area. Staying at local hotel and decided to order. An hour and ten minutes later I called the restaurant and I was put on hold. They never responded to my hold call. Definitely will never recommend this establishment to my military brothers and sisters that are passing through this area. Left a very bad taste in my mouth and never tried the food.
