Normally I wait until Ive been to a place more than once to write a review, the exceptions are for the terrible & the outstanding businesses...this falls under the latter! Upon entering I recalled being told that Alkaline was upstairs FROM Pendulum Meat Market, not that they took over the shop when the meat market closed for the day! So I stood there looking around for about 10-15 seconds (felt like an eternity of embarrassment) before I was approached by staff & told I was in the right place haha after being seated I witnessed another group of people do pretty much the same thing, so its dinner with entertainment! I didnt care for their draught beer offerings, but appreciated the free taste so I didnt commit to a pint. I enjoyed a Port City Porter while I eyeballed the menu for what I was going to indulge in this fine evening. I kept coming back to the Taiwanese oxtail & beef tendon ramen. I wish I got my servers name, he was very helpful in describing different items & I took his recommendation of adding a soft boiled egg before adding some sweet pickles to the bowl & the spicy chili garlic oil on the side. Everything was as advertised... DELICIOUS!! It has taken me far too long to make my first visit to Alkaline, but I guarantee it wont be my last. The only minor complaint is the conversation that I was forced to listen to from the table next to mine & thats not the restaurants fault. I now know way more about these people & their personal lives than I care to share...it got pretty dirty & detailed smh

Tried this place last night and was impressed. Food was fresh and good. Service was great. Very family friendy which was great. Limited menu which sometimes is good, but in this case wish there were more ramen options. The ramen with chicken broth was very fishy tasting, but the pork one was perfect. Ramen was good but I prefer Pho. Wasnt blown away with the food, so probably wont be back.

The servers likes to commit fraud apparently. I left a $4 cash tip on a $14 bill, and she still added her own tip of $3 on my card when I specifically wrote $0, because why not? Not to mention, every time Ive been, except once, my noodles were very undercooked. Im Japanese...... Ive had authentic ramen many times before...... These were not cooked noodles.

Best ramen place in the city. On weekend nights, a high-end butcher shop opens it doors and transforms into a speak-easy like Ramen Shop. Small but good selection of local beers, a few standard always done right dishes and a revolving menu of appetizers always interesting. Great for dates, groups, or just eating alone for foodie-enjoyment.

Excellent ramen! A small dining area with a bit of a wait if at peak hours, but worth it! A small menu, with only about 10 options, including appetizers. The spicy red curry ramen is great, as well as the tonkatsu ramen. We ordered the Okonomiyaki tater tots, which were delicious. Among the best ramen in the 757.

I have been here twice this year and the customer service is always on point. There was no wait time which is amazing, the food came out fast and was delicious. I would recommend trying their Spicy Curry Ramen, itll have you sweating in joy. I cant wait to introduce more friends/family to this place.

Really cute house turned butcher shop by day, ramen shop by night, I did wait 45 minutes for my appetizers and ramen, Im not sure that is typical, but all was forgiven once we had that 5 star ramen, tonkatsu and oxtail ramen were amazing, get the chili oil and pork belly is worth the extra price.

Look, this place is good. The ramens delicious, the wings are fantastic, the okonomiyaki is bangin. Its right by Colley, and open every night except Tuesday. The atmosphere is casual, the food is good, and the people are chill. Just go especially if you read this far.

Well priced food for the great quality youre getting. Theres such a great mix of food here that you cant find in Norfolk. The spicy curry ramen is my favorite, but is definitely not for people with a low tolerance for spice. It is however, so perfect for a chilly day.

Heard nothing but great things about this place. The food is great - ramen made right in the store. But, $90 for 4 bowls of ramen, one order of wings (6), and one individual saki seems a bit on the expensive side. The guys were hungry an hour later.

Unique and charming. The staff are very attentive and the food out of this world! It is a very small space and the seats fill up very quickly. I would strongly recommend this place if you want good food at a decent price and great service!

Place is warm welcoming and has that atmosphere vibe for young folks, although some of the older one might enjoy the very unique set up/ theme of the place. We had a little bit hard time locating the place/entrance but its all worth it.

Wasnt a fan of the "community table". But the oxtail ramen was absolutely amazing! I will definitely go back and bring a friend or two with me. Apparently the store is a meat shop during the day and restaurant at night.

Amazing quality at really reasonable prices! Started with a delicious yellow tail sashimi special, two great ramen bowls, and a melt in your mouth miso chocolate butter cake for dessert. Most highly recommended.

Wonderful restaurant! It was packed and understaffed while I was there so service was a little slow, but I understand that it happens and it didnt take away from the delicious ramen my partner and I had.

Long wait on a Friday night, but worth every minute. Grab a beer while you wait and enjoy the 90s music and home style atmosphere. Some of the best ramen I have had in my worldly travels.
