The last customer the other night, I enjoyed a chance to chat with the owner about fish quality and the recipe for restaurant success. Inspired by the opportunities of a favorable lease and training in Japan, this young Sushi chef puts in long 14 hour days to see his business succeed. He is also highly dedicated to the quality of the fish he uses. Unlike many local spots, his fish are never frozen and buys the best he can get. Ask for real crab in your rolls and you get King Crab instead of Dungeness! A Sashimi Tuna lover, I long-lined for large Big Eye Tuna in Hawaii many years ago as a commercial fisherman. Our efforts were all about preserving the quality of each fish though gentle handling. It was good to see a sushi Chef continue that respect right up to the plate. I was impressed by the advanced knowledge shown by Mika Sushis young owner. The food was wonderful. Ill be bringing my sushi loving friends for a visit soon. Ignore the bad reviews of the ignorant. Mika Sushi is sushi gold.

Its dirty and untidy, and the tables are left unbussed for far too long. Ive been there twice for lunch and both times the restaurant was no more than 1/3rd full, yet nearly every empty seat had unbussed dishes at it. There are restaurant and cleaning supplies stacked in various locations, visible to customers, including a dirty looking vacuum cleaner. The man running front-of-house doesnt appear to know exactly what hes doing. I dont think hes been trained well -- e.g. hell get distracted from delivering drinks to one table because another asked for a cheque. He needs to learn to finish the task at hand before moving on to the next. The chef seems nice enough and the food is pretty good. Judging the food alone, I would say that if I were going out for a sushi dinner, I would probably choose a better restaurant. If Im just looking for a sushi or bento lunch, then Mika is fine, assuming they either clean it up or you dont mind the mess.

I scoured Portland for a fantastic Sushi Joint and I was infinitely pleased to happen upon this little gem between Clay and Columbia on 2nd Avenue, forgotten, this sushi restaurant stands out as one of the only restaurants among towering office buildings. The first thing I noticed was the gorgeous lay out, complete with multiple aquariums, a sushi bar, booth and table seating. We were the only customers at the time and sat parallel to the largest aquarium. The sashimi was of fine quality, the chef served us himself. Monk Fish liver caught my eye so I gave it a shot, with fried onion and radish, this dish was mind blowing. Id recommend this place to anyone looking for an AUTHENTIC and quaint sushi experience. This is a family owned business, and even their youngest daughter helps out around the restaurant.

Ive lived in Anchorage, Los Angeles, and Seattle - and had fresh fish and sushi in all of those places. Mika sushi was the best Ive ever had. Decor was so-so, staff were awesome, prices were average. But the FISH!! Good lord, it was amazing! If youre interested in rolls, the Hawaiian roll with tuna and mango is great, as well as the Volcano with yummy scallops and special sauce on top, and my favorite/the most interesting is the Vegas - thin but large discs of salmon, cream cheese, sauces, and rice surrounded by a layer of tempura. Highly recommend this place, then a walk along the waterfront with your full, happy stomachs.

The staff and family running the restaurant are stupendous. They are very kind, helpful, and quaint. The restaurant opened very recently and can be a little bare of customers, but that lets them cater to their patrons with little distraction or wait. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. They are welcome to requests to form sushi to your liking. Ive asked them personally if they would carry geoduck, and they ordered it for me to try. Fantastic place! Check em out!

My husband and I live up the street and have adopted Mika Sushi as our "neighborhood" restaurant since it opened a few months ago. The ambiance, menu and presentation of food are all straightforward without much flare, but offer an inviting, casual experience. The staff is incredibly friendly, offering consistently fantastic recommendations tailored to our taste and budget. It seems as if they have great lunch options, too. Definitely worth a try!

I must be lucking out hard, because I have yet to get food poisoned by this place. This place is the only place that has a Maguro bōchō knife to cut their delivered tuna halves. The main stars of the sushi assortment was the otoro, smoked salmon and tai fish. There were a few selections that fell short such as chutoro and unagi, but nothing was below "good". Arguably the best place if you are hankering for fatty tuna.

I really would not recommend, especially with all the options out there. They messed up our orders and proceeded to point it out to us without fixing it. I couldnt even taste the difference between my Spicy Tuna and Spicy Salmon (could visibly tell though), and the rice barely stuck together so the sushi kinda fell apart. Miso Soup was really watery too. Waiter was nice... but food was not worth it.

My husband and I ate different dishes, and both got bowel issues. The food was salty. The yakisoba was made with spaghetti noodles rather than yakisoba noodles. I wish I had not eaten the sushi, because now Im concerned with the quality of the fish they use. My husband noted dirty rags in the food prep area, and it felt like I was in a third world restaurant.

Authentic sushi. It kinda feels like some people bought a restaurant for their family to hang out. Not fancy, good food. Its about $8/plate for sushi, but you should get noodles to go with it. They have good ramen and broths. We went right before going to the Keller Auditorium to see an opera.

There really is nothing good about this place. The sushi was poor, my lunch was wildly over priced for what I got. Loose rolls with plain rice were unimpressive. The wait staff seemed clueless as well, they messed up our orders. I would not recommend this place with so many options around.

Cameron cares deeply about the craft of sushi and takes pride in a having the best, freshest fish on a daily basis. Check the menu online to see whats available. I was lucky enough to stumble in here on a lunch break and I am an instant regular now.

There was a mans hair in my rice bowl. Ordered tofu rice but it keeps changing the meat combination, sometimes comes with chicken, sometimes with pork without telling the customer. Price keeps changing within one week or two for the dish I ordered.

Friendly staff, quick service, an awesome aquarium with the fish Dory from Finding Nemo, solid selection of Maki, Nigiri, Bento boxes, etc. Overall a pleasant experience and good food. Roughly 8 rolls for a Maki and the pricing was reasonable.

I hate seaweed, but love sushi. The folks at Mika happily wrap my rolls in soy paper. My husband & I have eaten there about once a month since they opened & have always had nice customer service and the food has always been fresh.
