KYOTO sushi was my fave sushi spot and I have been going there once a week for the last four years. I was nervous to hear that they were now Mira Sushi and I had every reason to be. The menu changed, no more hibachi options or even the popular sizzling dishes. I ordered chicken teriyaki thinking who can get that wrong? The chicken was so tough to chew and it didnt even taste like teriyaki sauce. It was not the thick sauce they normally have, but a thin soup like sauce that tasted like it had no relation to teriyaki. I always order the angel roll and that wasnt bad, but didnt seem to be what it was. Could be my disappointment from the other entrees I ordered. The chicken gyoza was delicious and so was the chicken satay. However, these apps are not what I loved and came to Kyoto for. I can get that at any Asian restaurant. I spent $70 on food just now that I wont even eat. If you ask anyone that knows me, they will tell you I love Kyoto and its by far my fave. The three stars on this review are directed mainly towards the floor staff. Jimmy is an amazing waiter The girls at the front desk were also so sweet about everyones confusion with the name change. Yes, Im not the only one. Three other customers were apprehensive about it when I walked in. Found out that there is a new Thai chef, but the sushi chefs are the same. COMPLETE mistake. Which Thai chef cant make chicken teriyaki? I bring EVERYONE to Kyoto and everyone has loved it almost as much I do. I brought a friend who has never had it and he was upset that we didnt get TACO BELL instead and was totally confused about my hype for Kyoto. This is my first ever review because Im just that disappointed and annoyed that I have to search for another Asian restaurant.

This place sucks. Twice Ive had issues with them screwing up orders. The first time I ordered tofu pad thai, and when it arrived, it was just vegetable pad thai. When I called to complain, they told me that there was tofu in it (there was only the tiny pieces of bean curd in a normal pad thai order, no actual large pieces of tofu). When I explained what I meant, the girl argued with me that what I ordered is what I got, and that theres no such thing as tofu pad thai with big pieces of tofu. I explained to her that every other Thai place on the planet knows what tofu pad thai is, and when I demanded she send me the correct order, she told me to send the mistake one back. Id love to know what they do with the sent back food, since its against the law to reserve it. This time I ordered sushi, and the order was wrong. Again I called, and the woman said shed send out the correct order, and Id have to send the original back. An hour goes by, and I called to find out where the food was, and she said it went out just then, and that they were backed up. She called me back a few seconds later to ask if I wanted a credit on the account (I said yes) and if I wanted to keep the mistake, I could. I thought they were being really nice. WRONG! I called an hour later (still hungry) to find out where the food was, and she said she called the driver and told him to BRING IT BACK! I asked why, and she said she thought I didnt want it anymore since I took the credit. I finally spoke to the manager, who finally agreed to send the correct items out, and give me a 15% off my next order. Well see if I ever end up using that 15%. I rather not get a discount than use them again.

When I went to Kyoto for the first time, i wasnt disappointed. At the time, the area was so beautiful and the staff were very welcoming. Be warned that the tofu Pieces are small, but they are pretty good. The Miso Soup was flavorful, like the brilliance of Japan itself. I ordered the Angry Lobster Roll, and it tasted so good, its hard to describe in words. I also tried the Napoleon Roll and the Rainbow Roll, both of which was good too. If you dont like sushi that much, dont worry, there are lots of non-sushi dishes in Kyoto. Also, the dish presentation is a work of art itself. They also gave Low Sodium Kikkoman soy sauce, although the food was so good, you barely need it. If youre not a fan of raw sushi, they also have some cooked sushi. They also had Appetizers, but i didnt order any. Dessert was an extreme surprise. There was a peculiar dish called "Fried Icecream" which puzzled me for a while, and at the time, it came in 2 flavors: Green Tea and Red Bean. The Dish IS ice-cream, but it is covered by breading which had the perfect combination to the ice-cream. Not to mention that there is a huge mountain of whipped cream, which tasted sooooooo good! If there was anything bad about Kyoto Sushi, it would be the prices, as they are really expensive, although it was quite worth it.

This decor of this place was not jarring and of a typical sushi restaurant. While we (family of four) sat at a regular table, I noticed they had private booths with seating pits. It wasnt busy and the restaurant was relatively empty so the regular seating was just fine. I ordered a yellowtail roll and Yellow Ninja (I think), found the quality to be okay. Fish didnt seem that fresh but was still edible. Hubby ordered the special lobster roll (dont know the name of it) and a house special salad. Both looked impressive and gigantic. The salad had sections of seaweed, spicy tuna, kani and mixed greens. The lobster roll was enormous so I had to help out with a few pieces and I enjoyed that much more than my own rolls. The pineapple fried rice was yummy and the homemade Shumai was okay. Yelp offers a free scoop of green tea ice cream with check in so the little one was happy and so were we.

The fusion of Japanese & Thai is not an unfamiliar theme in NY, but Kyoto does it well. Reasonably priced, generously portioned, and well flavored. My only complaint was the amount of sauce used for the mango shrimp dish I chose. If I were to get it again I would ask for less sauce. The Lychee Mojito is delightful, and the Spicy Salmon Pizza is a must try if youre tired of the usual appetizers at other restaurants. I didnt get our waitresss name but she is a sweetheart; who made honest suggestions about the dishes & actually came out of the restaurant to find us when I conveniently forgot my wallet. Guess the Lychee Mojito was better than I thought. Come here with friends or with your SO, you wont be disappointed.

They have really fallen off since it was kyoto. Got sushi sashimi combo last night, more expensive than it was before for worse quality of fish. The chefs dont even try to slice the fish thin likes its supposed to be. Either lack of skill with the knife, lack of knowledge of how its supposed to be, or just laziness or carelessness? Either way not worth the money or the trip really dissing because that used to be my sushi place. And did I mention it was poor quality fish. Not terrible but not good. On top of that the charged $1 for the spicy mayo which used to be 50cents and thats a different cheaper mixture than it was before too. Its a shame Im looking for another decent sushi place in queens now
