So I generally do not write reviews as cliche as that might sound..however, it is based upon the previous great reviews that made me try Nawab. Therefore, it is through those reviews led me to Nawab and let me tell you that my experience there was absolutely wonderful! They were so welcoming and warm and helped me as it was my first time there. They serve lunch as a buffet style meal for just about $10 (and about $14 total which includes a soda and tax). The manager was super attentive and came up to me personally to ask how my meal was and really talked with me as I asked her questions about the restaurant and general questions about Indian cuisine. She informed me that the restaurant is of north India cuisine which she explained to me is different in that it is not as spicy as southern India cuisine. The atmosphere was also just so great! There were tons of people lined up before the place even opened! Once it got to be about an hour into my visit the place was full of people and I could tell many were regulars who were delighted to be there enjoying the savory flavors of North India through Nawabs cuisine.

Beautifully decorated, tucked in a nearby shopping center, Nawab is a must visit. The wait staff was wonderful and our meal from drinks to bill was executed with perfect timing. We tried Nawab on a Saturday night. After ordering a Mangotini and a Long Island, we started with Samosas (potatoe and peas served in a deep fried turnover). The drinks were amazing. For our main course we ordered Naan (buttery flat bread), Chicken Patia (chucks of chicken breast cooked with mango and ginger) and Lamb Rogan Josh (lamb curry). Nawab allows you to choose your spiciness (mild, hot, and Indian hot). We both chose hot and were pleasantly surprised... it was just the right flavor. Compared to other Indian restaurants, Nawab menu is a little limited and the prices are a few dollars more, but the atmosphere and quality of food and service makes it worth the extra money.

This place Nails it out of the park, one of the few really good Westernized Indian restaurants ive ever been to on the east coast. I have gone for both the lunch buffet and twice for sit down dinners. The lunch buffet is 5 stars all around, dinner though was 3 stars at most. I am a diabetic which means no rice so I wanted some chicken tika masala with sauted veggies instead of rice and I ended up paying 25$ for 4 little cubes of chicken drowning in sauce with a single peace of grilled vegetable on the bottom that I had to argue with to get and was so miserably dissapointed. But even though I was pissed off, and will never ever set foot in that establishment for dinner again, i am used to people giving me enormous amounts of trouble for my special dietary needs and the lunch buffet has been perfect every time that it still deserves a good rating imo.

I have tried Village Kababs food and Ive heard it is way better than Nawab. The food at VK is fresh and quick. I got my food in 15min or less unless it were extremely busy. I guess a critic like me could say I sat there all afternoon. the chicken tikka was excelent. I ordered spicy and it was worth it. It was like I was back in India. there was music, video and a casual atmosphere but worth the time. I also checked sites and UrbanSpoon had quite a fight on VKs site. But Nawab might be worth it. the google page for VK was filled with info from money to catering. Call them or check them out and you decide, the website is villagekabab.tk . I definintly have to go back to Village Kabab soon, I miss the fresh food that Mcdonalds doesnt serve. I give 1 star for social comments in my community.

People who like this have NEVER had real Indian food and think because they coin as such it must be legit. People in VA don’t know any better since all food here is bland, salty and cold. Look I know my India food, north and south can tell you what’s what blindfolded. This was awful; it was like stew with a hint of spice, each “stew” had just a little touch of different. My nan was raw in the middle and burned on the outside. We left and went and grabbed a burger. I am now in search for a REAL Indian in VA, so far tried three and all three was nearly as bad as this one. If you are from VA you will like it, if you are more traveled and raised in India or around many Indians then dont bother.

While I have only been here for lunch as of yet, Id definitely be into visiting again perhaps for dinner (and likely will when I move back nearby soon). At lunch they had a small lunch buffet going with 3-5 of your standard curries, naan, and rice, although as its a buffet that caters to everyone, if youre looking for the indian curry heat, you might not find it in these small selections. Decor was fairly elegant and they did lay out nice handtowel napkins, silverware, and glasses for us. Overall, I see this as not quite the Monsoon (Hampton) level of fine dining, but likely a good (and hopefully less expensive) local substitute.

The restaurant was a little packed by 12:00. However, I got there a little early for their lunch buffet which starts at 11:30. The beef tips were a little tough but they were in a delicious sauce. The vegetables were well seasoned. The best item they had was their chicken in a red sauce towards the end of the buffet line. It was very spicy but one of the tastiest dishes I have had in a long time. They had fresh nan and rice and some salad type items. The service was excellent and the place was very clean and nice.

Im always thrilled by restaurants that make a point to denote vegan options on the menu! Nawab has numerous options that all sound delicious and healthy; I really enjoyed each of the dishes I ordered. The friendly service and calming music decor create a comforting ambience. Be sure to ask for a to-go box early on; the portions are generous and filling! I travel frequently for business and plan to make this a regular stop on future trips.

Went with my family for a later (close to closing time) dinner on 1/19. This was my introduction to Indian food and now Im hooked! The decor was quite nice (my children loved the water feature up front) and the service was friendly and efficient in spite of the late hour. We were very pleasantly surprised at the reasonable prices as well. The atmosphere was very welcoming and I highly recommend it to anyone in the Newport News area.

Ive had Indian and Nepalese in France and Germany, this is the spot in VA. Friendly staff, delicious, mouth watering curry, choice of meats.....Im hungry already. Also have spice levels 1-5, four makes my nose run, havent tried 5 yet.... Definitely recommend, runs a little higher then other brand restaurants, but well worth. Two entrees, nan bread, coffee, one glass of wine, and one soda, about 55ish bucks. Do it!

Very good food, very nice atmosphere. If you go with a friend or date, however, just get one entree and some nan bread and split it. The entrees were about $16-20, but they are enough to feed two people. I wish I had known that going in, as we ended up spending a lot more than we needed to. The food made great leftovers though so it wasnt all bad.
