Like others listed amongst these reviews, I too have rarely written a review and I too absolutely love Indian food! I will go out of my way to find a great Indian Restaurant! However, Id caution you to save the trip and save your money because this is NOT the best place to go! Ive eaten at Saffron Indian Bistro several times to give it a fair chance and todays lunch trip was the last straw! The service at this place is absolutely HORRID! I was seated at a table by the host/lead waiter (who knows who he is) when I arrived. As I ate, the entire staff must have wandered past my table at least four times each. They anxiously stirred the food at the buffet every few seconds and cleared dirty plates but not a single person spoke to me. It was obvious my drink was empty and I never received a refill and no one offered to bring me the usual basket of bread. The only interraction I encountered was a fellow who literally "dropped" the bill off while my plate was full, mumbled "thank you" and quickly disappeared. This is not the 1st time this has happened and I have never been anything but pleasant and cordial when Ive visited. Im tired of giving my money to places who dont seem to care how they treat their customers. When I voiced my concern upon leaving, I received a rather insincere "Sorry, Man" from the same host/lead waiter fellow. Not acceptable. Good luck with your business. You can serve the best food possible, but service is equally important if you want my business.

My experience here was pleasant. I arrived rather early for dinner hours, so I walked around until 1700. The host looked at me oddly because I arrived alone but was promptly seated and greeted by an elder man. I ordered a juice but that took forever to arrive so I cancelled it. I had roti bread, chicken biryani served with raita, vegetable samosa, and kheer for dessert. The roti was nice and fluffy but not as thin as I would prefer... delicious nonetheless. Chicken biryani was absolutely amazing. It was served mild hot, and the portion was very generous. One order of the samosa came in two, which is good for one person but I usually get more than that. The dipping sauce is very unique; it reminded me of tamarind paste meets A1 steak sauce.... definitely not for my palette. The dessert was a disappointment; it was rather too sweet and there were no raisins in it. Now, onto service. The host went to EVERY table but mine to ask how is everything, service, etc. I dont mind, really, but I would have appreciated the formality and bit of interest from the host. Even feigning interest is preferred over his inattentiveness. The only one who paid attention to servicing me was the elder man previously mentioned. He constantly made sure I had bottomless water and was super sweet and kind to me. I would give this bistro five stars but the service was not wonderful. Thank you, elder man, for making sure I was quenched and displaying interest in having me as a customer.

I had been craving Indian for weeks before I went with my husband and some friends for a casual dinner at Saffron. We were not disappointed. The meals were delicious. We ordered curries of "medium" spicyness, garlic naan and lassi drinks. All the food came out just right. The portions were quite large for Indian, and Im looking forward to mine for lunch tomorrow! Service was excellent. I dont think our water glasses were half-full for more than 30 seconds, before ice water was being offered again. The staff were friendly and offered sides, but were not persistent in up-selling them, which was refreshing. The atmosphere was great. It has modern decor, soft lighting, with beautiful bench seats in semi-booths. It did not have the traditional but ever-so-slightly cheesy decor that can frequent Indian restaurants. It is well suitable for a date-night or a big family meal. The menu is great, with a lot of meals that are not normally available at Indian restaurants (for example there was a whole section of goat dishes). The vegetarian amongst us had been there several times and loved the menu for her as well. I look forward to trying some new dishes next time we visit!

I will not speak on the food aspect because unfortunately I didnt get the opportunity to taste the food. It was a Saturday afternoon and I had a craving for some Indian food, and by doing my research I landed this place. Let me just speak on my short experience . A older couple came in minutes before us and they had been seated by the time we entered the restaurant. When you first center there is a sign that states "Please Wait To Be Seated" we waited. 5 minutes goes by...we were not greeted. An older Indian man acknowledged us and never came back. I was very visible, and in plan sight and was never greeted. I have noticed this with a lot of these restaurants in the town center area in VA Beach (refer to my previous reviews on my Yelp account) the employees judge a book by its cover. Its very hard not to make this about skin color but its quite obvious that this place did not like my kind. My husband wanted us to leave, but I really wanted to give this place a try but he was right. They did not deserve our business. And Its very embarrassing that in this day in age there is still prejudice .

A friend and I wanted to try Indian food so we chose Saffron. BIG MISTAKE! The food on the lunch buffet wahs ok but nothing to rave about. The biggest problem was the SERVICE. OMG! It was awful. First, when we walked in no one was there to greet you then we had to stand there and wait while several employees were just walking around. When we were sitted what I thought was our waitress poured us some water and walked away. Our waiter/waitress was MIA. No one really serviced us except for clearing plates, bringing us bread and refilling water. No help yourself to the buffet, would you like to see a menu or what would you like to drink. When I addressed my issues about the service with the manger, he seemed to just blow me off and not really concerned that we were not satisfied with the service. We will NOT be going back and advise you TO STAY FAR AWAY!!

I have been an Indian food lover for over 15 years, having experienced some of the best on offer at restaurants in London, San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Dallas, Chicago, Minneapolis/St Paul, Cleveland, etc. I was incredibly impressed with the Indian-hot Kerla Pepper Lamb I had tonight at Saffron in Virginia Beach. How they infused so much wonderful coconut flavor, fabulous black pepper essence, and yet still allowed the other subtle flavours of the fresh cilantro and other indian spices to shine was just --- amazing. Now, their pappadums could have been better-- they were clearly not made from scratch, and were cold; not made to order. But this was more than made up for by the wonderful Paneer Naan, served with a wonderful tasty, yet slightly runny, raita. KUDOS, Saffron!!!

I really dont know what was wrong that day, we have dined there before and it was all hunky dory then. about a month ago we d gone there and the food was utterly ridiculous. We ordered tomato soup. it was okay. then we ordered paneer tikka masala and a white curry. the tikka masala tasted like the soup! the white veg curry was the most tasteless ever.the service was slow- except when they came to collect the bill. bad experience. but mostly...awful food. you might catch the chef and the service people on a good day- then its fine. but thats a rarity.if you dont want to take a chance do go someplace else!
