Dont be so quick to judge this place, otherwise youre just being petty. You cant possibly understand any restaurant by just ordering some common dish like walnut shrimp, or the tso pork and noodles, or even fried rice. Those dishes are used to judge the chefs ability behind the counter; who, by the way, prepare each dish according to their style and taste. The true beauty of any restaurant resides in the one-of-a-kind dish that it is renounded for: here, its the Jja Jjang Noodles and the Jam-Bong Noodle Soup - the kind you cant find anywhere else in Utah. This restaurant is very much modest. If you have something to say, voice it in a mannerly and respectful tone and they will adjust to both your and their benefits accordingly. Theyve been around for a while and their patrons are very loyal; especially because of the exquisite taste of the noodles provided there. And dont try the hotpot if youre an amateur to method of consumption or preparation. 85% of any hotpot that turns out badly is well due to the person who put it all together in the pot. (Meat first then vegetables, idiot - Yes, Tim, Im targetting you!) But really, just ask the waiter or waitress and they would gladly guide you if not do it for you if its you first time. And if somethings not to your liking, let them know. Oh, and the indifferent attitude is actually a laid back mind-set. Its an Asian thing. (Some of you harsh and unnecessary critical jerks just need to be flexible and be more observant of others cultures. BE MORE RESPECTFUL TO STYLE!) If you read through my rambling / advice, thanks and kudos to you. But with all honesty, I prefer this casual and calm restaurant to any other busy and loud joint. I would suggest, though, going after noon or close to the evening, right when the sun is about to set. Simply because the sun then beautifully illuminates the dining room through the curtains... = more peace.

Totally love this place. For those that are new to hotpot, this is not some place you would take a hot date and experience some sort of European Fondue. When you eat hotpot at Hunan Garden, youre going to get messy and youre going to eat good. When you order hotpot the wait staff will ask if you want your broth half spicy. If those that are unsure how spicy it is, it is not spicy at all but very flavorful. Next they will bring out spices and sauces. This is to dip the cooked meat into it. There is a thick meaty sauce called BBQ sauce (its not the same bbq sauce you get at the grocery store) this is your main sauce. The others compliment the "bbq" sauce. There is a red sauce called, chili oil. This is to spice up your dipping sauce. The other sauce is soy sauce. Once you have the dipping sauces ready the plates of raw food will soon arrive. The standard selection(if you order buffet) is: spinach, glass noodles, squid, beef, chicken, fish balls, tofu skin, tofu, Napa cabbage, mussels, and shrimp. Now for those who want lamb, Ive always substituted to get lamb, which is by request. I recommend letting the wait staff know that if there is something that you dont like that is included in the All you can eat (AYCE), then let them know so it does not go to waste. There is also ala-carte if you decide not to order buffet. Just ask for the ala-carte menu. Again, this place is not to take your sweetheart on Valentines, but I always do :D Cheers.

Horrible. Got delivery. Barely spoke English. Had problems with his cell phone when he arrived. Blamed it on his network, which sure okay, I get. But still if its your job to do delivery have a working cell phone so when you get there you can call them. I gave him a 10% tip because of the poor delivery service only to receive a passive aggressive and nasty scowl as my thank you. And I was purposefully and thoroughly polite the entire time on the phone with him too. I have worked fast food and all kinds of restaurants so I know how stressful it is and so I usually try to tip high and cut them lots of slack. Poor communication skills aside though the food was very bland. I ordered the generals chicken and it was soggy and gross tasting by the time it arrived. Girlfriend ordered the orange chicken which likewise was also soggy instead of putting the sauce separately in there like they did with the sweet and sour pork it just sat there in the Box for who-knows-how-long and was soggy when it arrived to us 30 minutes later. If it wasnt for the passive aggressive scowl from the delivery guy I might actually consider giving them a second chance as thats what I usually do. But all things considered a terrible experience that Ill never pay for again. If for no other reason than to avoid having spit in my food because of a 10% tip.

I have personally been to at least a dozen other chinese restaurants in Salt Lake City looking for the best Walnut Shrimp plate -Hunan Garden blows them all away -easily, there isnt even any competition. The food is fantastic, and much better than what you can expect from the fancier restaurants downtown that will charge you at least twice as much. As a matter of fact -ANY of the shrimp plates at are spectacular. If you go to the Ho-ho garden, or any of the places on State St. expecting to find the same fat/plump shrimp in your dishes as you do at Hunan Garden -you will be sadly disappointed. If the best shrimp in Salt Lake is not your deal -the only other place in SLC that is worth a try is Davids Kitchen on 33rd South.

For all you can eat hot pot, this place does not disappoint! You pick your broth, all spicy, normal, or half and half, and are given a large selection of hot pot goodies like mussels, shrimp, squid, octopus, chicken, steak, fish balls, spinach, noodles, tofu, etc. When you run out, theyre more than happy to grab you more. They arent stingy. You never feel pressured to hurry up and go. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. Definitely one of the better places in Utah for hot pot.

This place has gotten my order wrong twice. I was very disappointed because my orders werent cheap and I ended up throwing them away both times. The girl who picks up orders cant really speak English. She barely understands the customers so she says yes to everything, then gets the wrong thing. However, their fried rice is pretty good and they dont get it wrong since its easy enough.

BEST CHINESE FOOD I would not go anywhere else to get my chinese food. Its a family owned business, for which all of the staff are Chinese. I have tried many of their dishes, and all of them met my standards. The person who said he got a staple in his dish: be glad youre fine, a mistake like this can happen anywhere. A Chinese resturant doesnt get more authentic than this.
