Let me start by saying I am very picky when it comes to dining out. Chinese food is about the only dining experience I ever look forward to going to, so Im always looking for the next best place to get Chinese. Let me also say that I frequented a Chinese restaurant back in Pennsylvania that was absolutely the best, so my expectations are high and Ive been trying to find one that can maybe please me here in Arizona. Golden Valley comes pretty damn close to being as good as my favorite place back home. Dont let the looks fool you, I went with a friend and its in a tiny run down strip mall and you can barely tell its open. As the old saying goes, dont judge a book by its cover. Once we got in, it kind of smells and looks like a pizza shop, but all the chinese authenticies your used to are present here. Thisis actually tun by asian people as well, as one of my pet peeves is when you go to a chinese restaurant thats basically an american restaurant that just serves poor interpretations of Chinese good. At golden valley, its very authentic. Let me avoid rambling though and get to the point. Food is prices great, with entrees ranging from $7-$9. You get an absolute ton of food as well, and while Im accustomed to getting enough for two meals, they give you a plate so big and so overflowing its enough for 3 FULL meals and perhaps even 4 smaller ones. Its definitely a great value. The staff is extremely friendly and courteous, and the food comes fast. The food itself also tastes pretty damn good, and I would definitely go back again. Not the best by far, but certainly somewhere I would like to go again. I give this review 4 of 5 stars because everything was perfect except the meat used in the dishes. I got a chicken dish, and my friend a beef dish, and the meat in both our dishes was definitely "mystery meat" The meat was extremely fatty and had lots of those cartilage pieces in it. The meal would have been next to perfect if I wasnt swallowing or having to spit out crunchy cartilage or fat deposits. I cant speak for the beef, but the chicken was obviously just very poor thigh, wing, and leg meat, and very fatty ones at that. I will go back though as while not the best, it was a good meal, and hopefully they will get better quality meat.

I am sorry, I can not concur with those who praise Golden Valley. We were there on June 30, 2012 and my sweet and sour chicken pieces were quite hard. I didnt complain, should have. Also they had precious few vegetables in there. I would expect more vegetables in it. Just a few thin strips of possibly carrot and some onions. The larger chicken pieces I could not eat because I could not cut them with a fork and I was issued no knife-they were too big for one bite! My wife says they were overcooked...as she tried one. I just let it go. Its really easy to overcook chicken. I NEVER had sweet and sour chicken be anything but great at any other Chinese Restaurant, including The Peking Gourmet in suburban Virginia, where George Herbert Walker Bush once ate. If you ever get back there, its on Route 7 just northwest of Baileys Crossroads in Falls Church. I give Golden Valley an F on my dinner.

Had the lunch special, sweet & sour chicken. Chicken was tasteless, dry and tasted like it was in the freezer a couple years. Coating very oily and tasted like it needed changing. Rice had no flavor except for oil. Didnt even try the egg roll after seeing my sisters face after she tasted hers. The sweet and sour sauce had the taste of a tin can. We both had about 5 bites of our lunch. The appetizer of crab puffs was ok but still had the old oil taste. Our doggy boxes were put down the garbage disposal as soon as we got home. The only thing good was the personality of the owner and the low prices for the quantity of food. I dont know how this place gets a 4.6 rating. Trip Advisor even rates it above Pei Wei. Seriously!? People either have no taste or they like the quantity and pricing.

We tried this restaurant tonight because of the great reviews. Service was far beyond what weve experienced in a long time. The main dishes were perfectly cooked and tasty. Now for the bad, the pu-pu platter was a disgrace. Overcooked and not fresh at all. And now the deal breaker, the sweet and sour sauce was awful. It tasted metallic and possibly expired. For us this is a deal breaker since we love sweet and sour for dipping and sweet and sour chicken. Too bad since the main dishes are fantastic.

Wow! Look at those prices!! ...Theyre that low for a reason! The chicken tasted freezer burned, the vegetables tasted dusty and were extremely wilted, and the rice was oily and had no flavor. The soup didnt have much flavor but the crab puffs were good. I had the Teriyaki Chicken lunch special, with wonton soup but the wontons were a bit raw. The staff was extremely friendly, courteous, and quick. That might be the attraction.

My wife, father in law and I went on a Monday night and was astounded! The service was amazing, the food was even better. We ordered the Orange chicken, spicy kung pow chicken and shrimp, and some vegetable and egg fried rice. More than enough food for all of us!! Also at a very inexpensive price. Compliments to the chef for sure!! Will come again.....and again.....and then again!!!!!!!!! Thank you
