I went to Densetsu based solely on the high ratings and its location in Plano. I had high expectations, which were not met, but its still a good place. AMBIANCE The restaurant has a nice look and feel to it, and the staff are friendly. THE FOOD Seafood Sunomono - I give them points for having it, but I was disappointed with what we were served. I am not a Japanese chef, so I cant be sure how to explain how to fix it, but I can say that the sweet vinegar flavor was too weak overall. The cucumbers overwhelmed the flavors, rather than complementing them, sort of watering it down. Slivers of cucumber (as opposed to the chunky, chopped slices) and improvements in the sweet vinegar would help. Miso soup - fine, but thats not exactly a test. Salad - It was literally a clump of mixed greens with some dressing drizzled on it. Given that most Japanese places serve similarly uninteresting salads, I cant really judge them too harshly for the simplicity of it. However, something about it did not work. Perhaps the dressing was a bad match. 10-piece nigiri sushi assortment - this was good; the sushi was a good variety, good quality, and well-prepared Godzilla roll and Spicy Murphy rolls - These were two of their special rolls that consisted of a maki with a crapload of stuff stacked on top. They were both impractically huge, in terms of girth. So, you had to sort of eat the top part, then the maki, and if you werent careful or quick to gulp down the rest, the maki would fall apart before you finished. Now that I think about it, I really did not care for either of them and I would be reluctant to order any more special rolls. The reason is that they ended up just being a giant mess of fish, roe, and sauce; it was almost a waste of good sushi, because most of the individual flavors were smothered and they were not replaced a wondrous new combo flavor like some Captain Planet of taste. They had no futomaki (per the menu and the waiter) - that was disappointing. THE SERVICE Service is inconsistent. During rushes, it is very spotty (worse than we would expect, especially for such a small restaurant). Service at the sushi bar is fine, but it is hard for that not to be the case. CONCLUSION If you are a fan of Japanese food and stick to nigiri sushi, you may be very happy here. If you just like lots of food to shove in your pie hole and the *idea* of maki, then the special rolls may make you very happy. Its definitely good, but, I cant say its the best, so four stars it is. I would still favor Sushi Sakana, Sushi Robata, and Tei Tei Robata over this place, to name a few.

The food was great as it always is BUT I WILL NEVER GO BACK!! They close at 10 On Thursday (Today) we arrived at 9pm. It took them 5 minutes to seat us and another 10 to take our order. The TABLES WERE EMPTY JUST DIRTY. We ordered and waited on our rolls which got to us by 9:45. I asked the waiter about my hand roll that didnt arrive with the others and then he goes to the waitress that took our order and she missed it on the sheet and didnt place it. Now instead of him ordering it RUSH he came back and asked me did I want it. I mean WHAT DO YOU THINK?!?! I asked for it didnt I?? I told him no and just said Ill deduct it from the tip in my head. Now yes their about to close I get it but as a person who once was in the restaurant industry you dont go home when the doors lock in most places. They had us cashed out before we could take our first bite of our rolls. They turned the music off I mean they made you so uncomfortable that the guy next to our table didnt even bother finishing his food. Now my aunt who was a first timer was finishing her roll when Laurence came over to her and said "We closed at 10" at 10:15pm. ARE YOU SERIOUS??? That did it for me! I could have been very unprofessional and went off but I didnt my aunt finished her meal and we left. So due to this experience I should have left nothing as a tip but with the piss poor service the 20% trip dropped to 10% and I was already cashed out before he made his rude remark. Dont go here at 9pm on a Thursday because an hour isnt enough time for them to feed you.

So, my husband son and I went there last night to eat. First, let me say we are sushi people all the way. This being said, seeing 113 reviews of mostly positive words had us excited. We went in and ordered the spicy scallop roll, spicy salmon roll, I love you roll, Philadelphia roll, and eel roll. We went in hungry and ready to get some work done lol. The service and atmosphere were ok, I truly have no complains about these two things. Although the sushi was not fresh, by any stretch of the imagination. It was poorly made, or was just a roll of raw fish that was completely inedible. The I love you roll was ok, although my husband thought it tasted like feet. The rest we got one bite in and couldnt eat it and spit it back out on the plate. There was only one roll we half consumed. The rest were fully intact and mostly untouched. Never being in this situation before, we tried talking to the manager and negotiating. We were immediately told if we didnt pay for it they would call the cops. I am in the service industry and have been for a very long time. So I get it, and we were not looking for a hand out. We were simply asking for them to work with us because literally everything they brought to us was HORRIBLE. So that was over 40 bucks we will never get back. Paying for a meal that was unfresh, poorly made, and expensive that we never ate. If I could give negative stars I would. I get some people love this place....but I for the life of me do not know why....eat there at your own risk.

This is arguably the best sushi in town, and I always go here when Ive got the sushi cravings. Their rolls are HUGE! Dont expect your typical small rolls, because Densetsu has the tastiest big rolls ever. Theyre really busy over the weekends, so come early or expect you wait a bit before seating. Seating arrangements are pretty close, so get cozy with your neighbor. The staff are always welcoming and friendly, and are nice. On busier evenings sometimes service is backed up, but Im naturally a patient restaurant eater. Some might not be so patient. Fish is fresh, and tastes fresh. Couldnt recommend this place more. If youre expecting lightning fast service, this might not be your place. If youre coming for atmosphere, great sushi, and dont mind a reasonable wait, then Densetsu is the place to hit up. I didnt used to like sushi till I had one of their rolls, now Im hooked to sushi everywhere.

Olympus has fallen. This is no longer the bestt sushi restaurant around. It has been a while between my recent visit and the previous and things have changed...and not for the better. Prices have gone up and the portions of actual fish have gone down. Our favorite has always been the superman burrito. I would have been fine with the higher price but to fill the thing mostly with the fake crab mix is not a good move. Service seems is off as well as we were not able to make a simple change to one of the specialty rolls. It is time to try out the multitude of other sushi restaurants that are closer to where I live. Thank you for the memories Densetsu. I used to recommend you to anyone that mentioned sushi. I can not do that any longer.
