They have been riding on the coat tails of their TV debut for far too long. It was pouring rain, so my friends and I decided to call ahead to make sure there currently was no wait. They said no, and that they wouldnt expect there to be one. I live 2 blocks away, so it took us about 5 minutes to walk there. When we arrived, they told us we were on a 45 min. wait, which ended up being over an hour. Our group was then told that we had to stand outside in the rain because they didnt want to crowd the foyer. They had a tent set up for us to wait under, which was cold, wet, and they corralled us into like steer. They did this to us, senior citizens, and anyone else who came along. Finally they decided they could start using the tent as more table space, so they started seating people there, and pushing us out into the rain. Luckily our table was open around that time, so we didnt have to stay there long. Once inside, while scanning the menu, I realized that nothing looked appetizing. To make things simple, you could have 2 eggs and toast....for $9! A regular size serving of shrimp and grits was $17! When my girlfriend asked for their special, southwestern style, omelet without sausage, we were told it was impossible. I asked the manager why they cant just not put the sausage in the omelet, and she said, "Because it is premade." I DONT KNOW ANY SELF RESPECTING RESTAURANT THAT WOULD PREMAKE AN OMELET! All of the flavor combinations were terrible on almost all of their items. When I said we were just going to leave, the manager made a suggestion, "Why dont you just have our eggplant and goat cheese sandwich as an omelet?" I was so confused on so many different levels, that I decided not to eat. In the end, 2 of us did not eat, and 3 did. The 3 who ate were disappointed, and we made fun of it for the rest of the day. I asked someone who used to work there what was up, and they said that they are so greedy that they will do anything to save/make an extra buck. I have also seen many terrible reviews online. You can go anywhere for shrimp and grits in the area....for half the price. The Big Nasty should be renamed "The Medium-sized mouthful of Dry." I hope this helps. This is not just a disgruntled review. I dine out around 4 times a week. I have been swindled into going there 3 or 4 times, and have not had a mediocre experience yet.

First, be honest with your wait times. Some folks actually have to work on weekdays. Secondly, space your tables. It was impossible to sit comfortably in your main dining area. Third, damp the sound. The dining area was on par with a college football game as far as noise, and impossible to have any sort of meaningful conversation--important if eating with family OR coworkers. Fourth, dont squeeze 5 people into what would be a SMALL 4-top. That was PATHETIC. Give them a proper 6-top and just eat the empty seat instead of making one guest (not me, I would have walked) feel as though they are blocking the flow. Finally for my finale. The food. Pathetic. Horrible. I would have rather eaten at Waffle House, independent of cost. Your menu said "Pulled Pork"...you served a half cup of CUBED TRASH MEAT with a half-baked "unique" BBQ sauce that didnt even come CLOSE--I had better in elementary school. Why did I order BBQ in Charleston you may be asking? Because "shrimp and grits" was $19. Ok, fair enough, Ive paid that for S&G before--but not for lunch. My coworker had it worse than I did. 5 shrimp. Instant, or otherwise incredibly pathetic grits. Other sins against the foodie industry? Dirty silverware, cracked glassware that leaked, an inattentive and downright rude and condescending server, and an overall sad experience. I can only hope this place is closed and replaced by a respectable member of the Charleston restaurant scene SOON. Youre embarrassing the rest of the industry that the city is known for. Just go ahead and close the doors. You food is sad, your employees are unhappy rude and incapable, and your facilities are, while unique, unfit for a restaurant. Might I suggest a roadside veggie stand or an antiques shop somewhere far far away from downtown Charleston? Maybe a career in school cafeteria management?

My dad has been going to MUSC atleast 3 times a week since July 2014. I had been coming with him, the last two weeks, to drive him as he was in pain. We were getting ready to head back to Florence but wanted to stop somewhere for lunch. My first pick (Octobachi) was closed due to renovations. I saw Hamony Grill only right down the the road and figured, what the heck? So we headed over there. The place smelt good and the people seemed friendly, nothing negative towards the staffing. We sat down ( Chair was a bit small, even for my father who is rather scrawny these days ) and looked at the menu. Thinking i could get something simple, like a burger and fries, i looked through only to find that most of the dishes, including the saladss, were $10 or more. I forgave that, its Charleston prices are bound to be a little high. So i decided on a stew ( The only thing that seemed appetizing ) and that was a killer $18. I figured, for the price, i should get a decent portion (maybe some break ) to help fill me. Nope, i got the tiniest bowl of stew (mostly broth) with 2 small chunks of fish and 3 little shrimp. Very disappointed. My father got a salad, i figured you cant screw that up, but not only was the lettuce of a sub par quality, the chicken ($2.00 something to add ) was 4 little tiny pieces, barely a breast. The salad was over $12. I was just very disappointed in the whole experience. If you like small portions and southern food, i suppose you could stomach it a little better then i, but when i go to a grill, i expect them to actually have grilled items on the menu and to pay what you get, not get cheated on your portion because its (apparently) a "popular" place in Charleston. Dont expect much from Hamony Grill, folks.

Weve been here the past two times weve visited Charleston, and will continue to stop here on every future trip. The food is always excellent, and our standards are high, with my fiance being a professionally trained and practicing chef. The restaurant itself has a very warm and inviting atmosphere, with genuine Southern hospitality. The staff are very friendly and helpful, with honest suggestions of the menu. We were lucky enough to have Drew as our server both times, and he is fantastic- highly enthusiastic, going above and beyond on both visits. And the food! No matter what you order, you can be sure that it will be cooked perfectly to order, with full and wonderful flavors, and in very satisfying portions. Id especially recommend the shrimp and grits, huevos rancheros, or the Charleston nasty biscuit for a first visit. Weve yet to try the cocktails, but I can say that they have great presentation from the ones Ive seen pass by our table. The value is great for the amount and quality of food you get, especially in the downtown Charleston area. For Sunday brunch, I would definitely recommend getting there shortly after opening (before 10 am), as there was a line around the door when we visited in early August (not much of a wait during our October visit though). I hope that Ive hit on every point here, because this is one place youll surely want to visit in the area, and they are truly deserving of a great review.
