Yum! Mariposa has made it so much more enjoyable to be stuck as gluten free. Ive tried many of their pastries and many of their meals, and while their prices are a but high (which I suppose is acceptable for their narrow market), they could work on the texture of their gluten free treats and breads. Ive been gluten free for almost ten years now, and more and more you can pop over to Safeway and get gf bread that tastes like the real thing. English muffins, bagels, you name it-- a couple years ago, youd be better off eating a brick. But now? The gf market has expanded and improved greatly. I feel like Mariposa is stuck in the past, as their recipes havent changed, and their treats are still dense and often have a weird taste (which used to be common with gf foods) to them. Plus, they dont fry their doughnuts!! Who wants a baked doughnut?! So, Mariposa, while it is a great advancement and a great go-to gf restaurant and bakery, they have a few kinks to work out still. Keep up the good work!! And thank you for staying gluten free!

Stopped by here for the second time yesterday and unfortunately I’m not really a fan of their pastries - in spite of the fact I really, really wanted to like this place. First time around I tried the carrot cake cupcake and the sugar cookie and found them both to be pretty flat and overly dry. Yesterday, I stopped in again, this time to try the cinnamon roll and it was equally disappointing. I’m not sure if it’s the gluten-free approach that causes the poor texture/composition, but I really didn’t like the consistency of the roll (plus it was ~$4.50!). Bummer, but for whatever reason it’s not for me.

Its really nice to find a dedicated gluten free place, since my partner has celiac disease. The bread is good, even if you live that gluten life, and so is the service. Not all the products are, though, so you have to be willing to end up buying some duds to figure out whats worth getting. They have a cafe service also, but the food that you can order barely passes for decent. It wouldnt take a lot to tweak it to being delicious, but they dont seem to care because they have the gf market more or less cornered at the moment.

I give it 5 starts for just existing! But Ive had much better gf bakery goods (sadly in a bakery that recently closed.) Their breads are really good, and so are cookies and muffins. They dont seem to know how to make flaky crusts (which Ive had elsewhere)....everything seems kind of dense. Also disappointing are the out-sized prices. Im happy theyre there, and I can pick out the few things that I really like. Just wish theyd learn how to do flaky, and lower their prices.

They specialize in gluten free and vegan baked food. What sets them apart is the outstanding quality and taste, even for California! They have everything ranging from bagels to pastry pockets, pot pies, tuna melts, pizza and lots of desserts. They even have frozen pizza and quiche that you can take and bake at your house. Coffee and exotic tea to drink, and with their newly expanded space its quite huge and bright the pleasing Decor. Highly recommend.

I loooove Mariposa! I cannot eat any gluten and usually have to worry about all sorts of cross-contamination. Mariposa is a blessing. When I walk in there, I feel like a normal person. I can eat anything, I do not have to ask questions. I love stopping by to grab a turkey sandwich for lunch (will do that today :) The apple gallette is delicious. The sliced bread and the bagette are wonderful too. The brownies are soft and yummy. Thank you, Mariposa.

All of the staff was super nice. Being gluten free, dairy free, and egg free this is a really nice place to be at especially since there are plenty of options to choose from. There was a small mix up with our order but they realized it before we even asked. I would definitely come here again, and they do mail order, so if Im out of town, I can still get the delicious treats that I am craving!

Everything is gluten free!! Best gluten free bakery ever! They even have a few vegan options!!!!! When we go there, we always get the Whoopie Pies and also end up buying the other vegan goodies they have available for that day. They even have vegan empanadas and falafel plate, if sweets arent your thing. Staff is very friendly and helpful!

Great resource for those in need of strictly gluten-free foods, but kinda precious and extremely expensive. Some of their stuff is really good like the ham and cheese pockets and the lasagna, but some of it just doesnt have very good texture or flavor. With so many good gluten-free products out there, they need to up their game a bit.

As a glutine free person...finding Mariposa was like walking into heaven! It was my first time there today and I just stood there looking at all the amazing food for several minutes before ordering, I just took it all in. The presentation of the food was very appetizing and the quality is superb. I cant wait to go back again

Lovely place to drop by on a Sunday morning at the end of my visit to Oakland. I did a quick search for "gluten-free bakery" and was pleasantly surprised to find Mariposa was so close to where I was staying. I was impressed by their selection and reasonable prices. I picked up a loaf of GF bread and a vegan whoopee pie.

Ive had the best and worst gf treats if my life here. Think it might be because they use brown rice flour in almost everything and its not a good base for everything. Love the challah bread heated with butter and chocolate cake with icing, but cookies can taste like dog treats as well as some too dense pastries.

They are the only gluten free bakery/ cafe I know of and its really nice to be able to go out for a savory pastry and sit with a cup of coffee. I miss that experience. I wish two things, that they made a chocolate croissant and opened at 8 am so I could run in before work but neither are that healthy for me.

Best gluten free bakery! I guess there are not many rivals in the category, but overall its a great bakery---gluten free or not. The bread is perfectly fluffy and doesnt crumble like other gluten free breads. Every snack Ive tried is grand. And they have decent wifi to use in the cafe, as well.

The best gluten free bakery around! This is the main location, and they have a branch in San Francisco at the Ferry Building too. Try their molasses cookies (new for fall), for a delicious treat. The brownies are to die for! You really cant go wrong with any purchase at this spot

A little expensive per pastry item, but a lot of good selections from sweet to savory and bread. They have cakes and cupcakes and everything Ive had so far has been really good! More dense than the regular gluten versions, but not in a bad way and the flavors are great:)

This is really for their presence at the California Ave Farmers Market on Sundays in Palo Alto. Ive tried their mock rye bread, baguette, buns (perfect for burgers), and cinnamon rolls. They are all so good--and its such a treat to have someone else do the baking. :)
