I have been coming to the Oak Hill Tavern since I was an 18 year old Freshman at URI. 7 years later and it is still one of my favorite restaurant from all my travels. I find it ridiculous that people can say that the staff is rude, that the food was mediocre, or have anything bad to say about the owner. The Fish and Chips here are the best Ive had throughout New England, Florida, and Southern California. Ive tried dozens of other places for fish and chips and no where else can compare. The beer choice on tap is better than would be expected, and over the past few years I have seen it getting better. The craft beer selection is much better than most of the restaurants around. The barbeque here is also very, very good, especially for New England (sorry New Englanders, but you arent known for Barbeque.... Every time my family comes to visit we make sure to find time to come to the Oak Hill Tavern. My mother loves the peel and eat shrimp and the ribs, my father loves to try something new (and has never been disappointed), and my little cousins love the pizza. The owner even came up to have a beer with me. my father, my Uncle, and some friends once. He told us some jokes, talked about his passion for the restaurant, and shared a pint. Really good guy. Anyone with anyhting bad to say about the Oak Hill Tavern is either lying or had a rare bad day here. I have been here enough to know that the norm is a superb experience. Overall, when its all said and done, I can confidently say that the Oak Hill Tavern is my favorite restaurant in New England, let alone Rhode Island.

My wife and I really, really wanted to like this place. We went there for a long overdue date night (the first in about a year) because they advertise their BBQ. Being amateur backyard-smokers ourselves, we really wanted to see "how the pros do it". We couldnt have been more disappointed. My wifes pulled pork was flavorless, had zero smoke on it, and tasted very bland. My rack of ribs was yellow. Not golden brown, not mahogany, but yellow. There wasnt any seasoning on the outside of the ribs. No salt, no pepper, nothing. When I cut into the rack to separate the ribs, I noticed the membrane was still on the back side ! Our server suggested I add sauce to the ribs, but I declined. BBQ meat should be able to stand on its own two feet. It shouldnt need sauce at all. The one good thing I can say about the ribs was that the meat was tender. The ribs looked they had been baked, not smoked, but they were tender. The service was pleasant enough, but our waitress seemed genuinely surprised we were not enjoying our BBQ. We didnt say anything, but she could just tell. The whole experience was terrible, and to end the evening, that evening both my wife and I got sick from the food. This is a place crying out for Gordon Ramsay. It truly is a Kitchen Nightmare. And its sad too, because we wanted to love it.

The dive bar atmosphere, free popcorn, and free peanuts made this an okay place for me. Also have to love wacky wing Wednesday. Other than that, tried to book an event here once and the manager I spoke to was abrupt, rude, and seemed generally annoyed at my questions and interrupted me multiple times when I was a bit confused. I found her snappy and unpleasant. Not cool for a venue like this and for the price of having a bigger event. They must be doing very well to feel like they can be completely rude to customers (and I spent many years in the food service industry so I KNOW its difficult, but cmon, seriously).

This is the best restaurant in South county, They have a great mixture of seafood and BBQ. Great daily specials. The wait staff is very friendly and polite. The owner seemed to have been out front doing everything he possibly could to keep the customers happy. I wish i lived in the area so i could get wings every wednesday!

I loved this place... Dont expect a 5 star restaurant.. This place is a down home BBQ place ..This is what Texas Roadhouse is trying to be. If you want good low and slow barbeque and country atmosphere this is the place.. If you want fake barbeque and overly enthusiastic wait staff, go to a chain restaurant.

Great food, simple menu, and a decent draft beer selection. Cool to see these kinds of family owned restaurants with the licence plates on the wall. When Im in this area, this restaurant is always a high rated option for us. Also, manager personnaly talked to us and the service was good and quick.

Rudest manager ever. My seafood was bad and I was told by the manager that it was fine and they wouldnt take it off my bill. My waitress was nice and tried to make us happier. She also pointed out some of the cheap and gross habits of the owner that shes seen ovr the years

Its a good atmosphere on a Sunday evening with music playing and good people. Unfortunately the service was very poor. We felt unwanted received poor customer service by the waitresses. Its clear the waitresses dont enjoy their jobs.

Just love mushroom sandwich and their steak and cheese. We enjoyed having Holly for our server , love her sense of humor. Oak Hill Tavern offers: Live music, fire pit, free popcorn and peanuts what else could you ask for.

Not that great of a place, their bartenders Always look grumpy and neglect you. I tried ordering a drink for a half hour one night and ended up walking out. The only thing this place has going for it is free popcorn.

This place is terrible, food tastes like nothing. Wacky wing Wednesday is a total rip off because the wings are bad. Waiters are terrible, their personality is very bland. Just a terrible, terrible place.

We like the old mill type building this restaurant in. Its really cozy and people are nice. Frequented by locals and regulars. Food really good and waitstaff are really nice.

I love the place. Cool neighborhood vibe. Cheeseburgers are the best. Wacky Wednesday Wings are great and cheap. Btw, if you have a peanut dust allergy, stay away.
